Or versus senior adults. Whatever you prefer to call them.

As you guys know, I'm not one to go bragging about my age and whatnot. However, does age play a role in your energy and what you can take? For example, my mom's always tired because she works from about 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and then on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesday nights she helps my aunt at her ranch by cleaning stalls and such. However, could age also be playing a role? Do older people need more sleep than younger people? My mom gets a good night's sleep, for the most part, but it seems like she also frequently doesn't.

Now, moving away from age and onto muscles and bones, do you tend to be stronger when you're younger? For example, I slipped on ice twice out at my aunt's today, but was able to catch myself with my arm and hand before falling down completely. My arm was sore from it being sort of stretched when I was catching myself, but that didn't last for more than a few seconds. However, because my mom has back problems, when she slips and falls, it really affects her more, especially in this cold weather.

Short version: Can younger people deal with more things?

Depends on how developed your reaction time is in that perspective when you're younger you can catch yourself when you slip but when it comes to the actual consequence it just depends on the amount of iron in your blood and calcium which will help you heal the wound or whatever injuries you gained in the end. Physically and mentally Kids can't take a lot stamina and energy wise of course they can because they're young their bodies need to exert loads of energy. Why do you think that they hate going to bed? because they went to exert energy till they drop. You do tend to be stronger when you're younger but only in certain aspects such as energy and stamina wise strength wise also in some area's.

Of course for older people though their bones are slowly becoming less and less, solid? I'm not entirely sure of the word myself in honesty but yeah, it depends on how you control your diet when you're older it varies for everyone. Like I noticed a year ago when I began to let myself go; not eating enough iron and calcium whenever I used to hurt myself it took quite a while for the wound to go away even on small scratches it took a month or more to get rid of the actual scar or scab. Which became annoying so I went to the doctors and he told me I was low on iron and calcium which help heal things like scratches and so forth so that is all I can say, Kids are naturally full of energy and strong but so are adults, just adults need to watch their vitamin levels a bit more than kids do of course.

i think it's universally understood that this is generally the case, but that it varies from person to person.

i dont see why this is a question that needs asking

Having had just battled the flu... (Maybe worse because it sounded worse.)

I only was sick for a week and bounced back. The only reason I still have issues and the cough is because I shoveled with the flu when I really should've been resting. My mom who has the flu has had it about three weeks and is still having issues. The biggest thing for age is that your body can handle more things pushed on it. Whether it's an illness, injury or other such issues.

I heard somewhere that 26 is your prime. At 26 years old, your body is at it's best and it's all downhill from there. It kind of makes sense. Back in the way-back-whens, when people died around 60, 26 was half of your life. At 50 you were a senior, at 65 you were ancient.

As for personal experience, my brother and I are much stronger than my mom and dad. Dad can lift more, but not for as long and Mom can't lift as much for any amount of time. Dad has worn out his shoulder sockets from years of carpentry and lost one of his discs due to infection. Mom is immuno-deficient and got sick with pneumonia a few years ago. She lost about 15 pounds of weight and never got it back (she's at 82 pounds right now. Healthy is 95 for her). I think that as you age, your body starts accumulating wear and tear as you go. So @Amaury, maybe your mom gets tired quicker because her muscles and bones are worn out, so it takes more energy to move them than it does for younger people with shiny new parts. Similar I guess to how an older engine won't run as efficiently as a new one, if we want to speak in car terms I guess.

As Loxare said, you hit your prime somewhere around 26-30 (most olympic athletes are under 30) but that isn't the only factor influencing your abilities. I suppose exercise and how often you use your muscles comes into play, my Dad is an avid triathlete and constantly goes on long runs/cycles/swims and got 6hours 30 for a half Iron Man (a very long triathlon) and he's just turned 51. There are fit 26 year olds that wouldn't be able to do that time (by fit, I just mean healthy and not the people who train like crazy for such an event) and at the same time my Dad was looking at people who were in their 60s and 70s doing the event who were getting very good times.

I think age is an important factor but not the only one.

Also, on the topic of sleep, I don't know if it's just because I'm a lazy teenager but I have always had the idea that my parents sleep a lot less than me or it could be because when I was younger I would have to go to bed and they would go to sleep after me and wake up before me and that idea has always stuck.
