I really dislike Mega Gengar because of how ridiculously fast and hard it hits. Shadow Tag is a pain and prevents being able to switch to a counter. And yeah, you could Earthquake it, but that's only if you can survive stuff like a 170 Sp. Atk STAB Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb or something along those lines.

Mega Lucario is a bit easier to take care of, since you can at least switch to a counter, and he's not as fast as Mega Gengar. Still, if you don't kill it fast enough or have good counters still around on your party, a Swords Dance or Nasty Plot makes it really hard to survive its sweep.

Wait wait, you mean something in Pokemon can decimate you if you don't prep for the typing? Man, they should ban dragons too. They should also make the parties be 24 slots so you can have at least one of every type. That way everyone can never be in the wrong for not prepping well enough.

Also, Lucario needs a turn to do that. If you don't pull out something that can OHKO that fragile imp then you deserve to be swept. I mean, by that logic, why didn't we ban Gyarados in Gen IV? Let him get in a swords dance or two dragon dances, and he's an unstoppable monster unless you think fast enough to get rid of him.

A bit of a ******y response, but regardless:

It's not just the typing; it's the fact that Mega Gengar keeps you from potentially getting your counter to it out, which is almost always the response one gets from "THIS IS OP". The ability, coupled with how ridiculously strong the Pokemon is if you don't happen to have one of your counters to it out at the time (or at the very least something that can resist and stall it), makes it, in my opinion, pretty unfair.

Because Gyrados still has a 4x weakness, and doesn't have Adaptability.

    I'm always a snark.

But that's not OP. It causes players frustration, it's not OP. M. Gengar shouldn't compete with ubers- he'll get stomped, wrecked, and torn asunder. So what, eh gets one kill, switch to an EQer and he'll be dead.

4x weaknesses, but he could be boosted to outrun anything with his weakness. Halp. Ban hammer him. Seriously though, adaptability makes one to two of Lucario's moves better. Switch into something that won't get wrecked by fighting and you'll probably demolish the fragile little guy. ANOTHER POKEMON WHO CAN EASILY BE OHKO'D BY THE MOST SPAMMED MOVE IN THE GAME. Seriously, this is why Pokemon battling is boring. Anything with any sort of identity gets banned. Back in Gen III a lot of players banned Slaking and he couldn't move for half of the turns you use him!

I think the big problem with Slaking was in double battles, where your ally Pokémon would use Skill Swap with it.

Wait wait wait, so you had to dedicate a member of your team to making it useful and accept a handicap? Man, where's the balance!?!?!?

Skill swap team compositions are actually quite effective.

Well you shouldn't. Snark is about timing, do it all the time and it just gets tedious

Ah yes nothing centralizes the meta like a good 8.5 on the Richter scale

E: YOU WANNA KNOW HOW GOOD I AM?!

I JUST LOOKED UP MAGNITUDE'S BASE POWER

    8 IS 90 AND 9 IS 110

I SAID 8.5 WITHOUT KNOWING THAT AND EARTHQUAKE'S BASE POWER IS 100

BOW DOWN TO YOUR POKÉMON MASTER

EE: Also anyone who uses Slaking over Regigigas is a chump

And? You still have to play to that type to use him. You're locked into a handicap. It's balanced

Whatever, I still think Mega Gengar is overpowered for the reasons I stated.

    Fine, Mega Lucario works.

I mean, that's an opinion. And you can have it. I offered counters, you offered counters. It doesn't seem either of us are right to the other due to our own experiences and preferences with how the game works. I just don't like that they're basically banning strategies nowadays, rather than crazy high stats that normals can't contest with.

Hey man, I ended up agreeing with you on Mega Lucario being fine. He's a bit strong, but as you pointed out, not that difficult to take down (mainly cause you can at least switch to a counter.)

What we could do is simply ask the majority of whomever ends up wanting to do this tournament thing at all (if it even happens lol) whether they want the two banned. Don't have to follow other sites' rules to the letter :p
