This will more than likely contain spoilers for all games, but if you haven't heard them by now I strongly suggest playing whichever game(s) you haven't.

Hey there everyone. I was just thinking of possible situations for the final boss of Kingdom Hearts 3, when this hit me. What if the final boss isn't a Xehanort, or Xehanort related? What if there is some huge plot twist in which some character whom we have come to love turns on the whole gang? So I came up with some possible characters to fit this situation.

    1. Aqua - I've seen it on these forums before, so here we go. I would take it that being in the Realm of Darkness for over a decade would deal some damage to your heart, mind, and body, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Aqua go insane and snap at the end of KH3. She could become the whole "destroy all darkness" type of character, which speaking of which...

    2. Master Eraqus -The whole "destroy all darkness" character originates with this here fellow, who for 99% of the series has been absent. Whether he is in Terra's heart or not, I think it's safe to say we will see him return. Now we just need to see if the various theories that claim that he is the Guardian are true or not. Oh the irony of wanting to destroy the darkness yet, it's what he has become.

    3. Sora - Yes, you read that right, Sora. Sora has progressively started to become a darker character, most seen with 3D. I mean, the ending in the Grid totally stuck out to me as this. Sora saw his former ally in a sense perish. Wowzers, now that must have hurt his light-oriented attitude. Oh and he failed the Mark of Mastery test. I can see these instances causing Sora to doubt himself, and maybe think he can't end the pain and suffering Xehanort has brought upon the universe.

    4. Lea and Isa - This one is a stretch but what if, some how, Lea and Isa's plan worked. To my knowledge we still aren't 100% sure of what it entailed, but I'm assuming it had to deal with ruling Radiant Garden at first, then the Organization when they became Nobodies. Maybe this whole battle between 13 darknesses and 7 lights is just what they need to get they want. I mean, Lea has the Keyblade now, so that is a huge help towards their efforts. However, I can see Lea turning against Isa in the long run, ditching his power hungry friend for the heroes.

So, I want to here all your thoughts on this. Anyone else you see possibly twisting the plot at the last second and making us all drop the controller?

Meh, the betrayal thing is a bit cliche, and some of those would just be a major case of what, and honestly a bit of a step down from simply confronting Xehanort.
I could very easily see Xehanort being usurped by another, even more convoluted villain, or end up being betrayed by anotherXehanort, though

    This.
Not that I want it, but it would be a very easy way to hint at what's coming after 3.

I really don't want there to be some extreme plot twist though. KH is ridiculously convoluted as it is, we don't need something else to make it worse this close to the end.

    Nomura,
Let's just end this batshit crazy Xehanort saga peacefully and see if we can't do better next time.

i doubt there will b a plot twist as to who will be the final boss. i mean its all leading up to it, itll be Xehanort or a form of xehanort. thats all. but then again it is KH and im sure something will b thrown in there that no one sees coming. so i guess we will have to wait another 10 years and for the ps5 or 6 to come out before we can find out.

I find it weird how you make a list of people whom might betray, and you don't put Riku on the list :b I thought he would be on there. But eh, I couldn't see that happening.

I could POSSIBLY see Lea betraying Sora and such, and then seeing the error of his ways later on.

I could possibly see it as well. But Sora might be a boss like he was in DDD. He would be possesed by Xehanort and Riku will try to free Sora from Xehanort's grasp. It has a very high chance of happening because of DDD.

I can certainly see a betrayal of one of these characters (or another character) being worked into the plot--it's definitely a climatic thing to pull in a story, like in the first Kingdom Hearts, with Riku. However, I can't see it replacing Xehanort as the "final" villain--because any of these characters turning would have been effected by Xehanort. For example, Aqua was sent to the Realm of Darkness when trying to stop Xehanort from taking Terra. Xehanort's the mastermind behind pretty much everything bad happening ever in the Kingdom Hearts series.

Back to relating it to Kingdom Hearts--it's like how fighting Riku is certainly a huge point in the game and a huge battle... but the final fight still rests with Xehanort's Heartless.

I didn't put Riku on the list because I feel as if has fully accepted his role as a hero in the universe.

I can also see that this betrayal, if there is one, could snag a spot before the final battle with Xehanort.

I could see this happening and have speculated this before. If she doesn't turn out to be the final boss I think she also has a chance to be the main villain in the second saga
This one is less likely imo. It's possible though.
If Sora were the final boss then I could see it being a replica, another timeline, or another kind of Sora brought by Master Xehanort. It being the real deal Sora seems kind of out of place to me.
This one is pretty unlikely. I could see something like this being one of the final bosses but not the FINAL boss.

After lots of thinking, does any1 think that Kairi could turn to the darkness? I mean it could happen right? She has a nobody, Her heart has been trapped, and now shes free, in my opinion shes just like Riku, only she didnt use the darkness or let it conquer her. but shes been through the dark corridors, exposed to the darkness, maybe she could end up being evil? o.0
Even tho she was a princess of heart in KH1, its just a theory tho

Unless Kairi REALLY stepped up her game in the last few handhelds.

I don't see her as a threat, period.

Sorry, but having a guy casually stroll over to you, grab you by the wrist and drag you away into a portal ten feet away without you barely doing anything, I don't see her as a boss at all. I see maybe Sora or Eraquis, darkness can come from being too light also. If you get a certain mindset about destroying all darkness, you become what you hate if you go too far with it. It's a careful balance with it and I can see that happening. Hell, look at Riku when he was trying to help Kairi.
