I just finished Death Note... the ending was... What does it mean!?

 

He's dead.​

 

I know that but... why end it like that? That was just so... fugged up...

 

I don't really see how it's messed up for good to triumph in the end, haha.

 

The whole show is fugged up, not just the ending. Thats what makes it so good.
The ending was fitting and justice was served. It was kinda predictable, I mean Light had to get caught eventually, otherwise the show wouldve never ended.

 

I hoped for good not to triumph in this one...

However, yeah, it's a very strange end, but it just adds to the awesomeosity of the series.

 

both Light and L are my favorite characters. I'm glad they kept L alive for one extra movie in the live action films. Either way, the ending was the basic good triumphs over evil, die die Kira, never see you again, the world is going to become messed up again, but you don't have to worry because you'll be in complete lonliness

 

They needed to show that good always triumphs over evil. The messed up thing about it that it was Near who did it. Near and Mello, my least favorite characters in the entire series for nearly destroying it.

 

You can always watch the Live action films. The first two are the normal stuff, but the last is more of a normal fast-paced mystery than anything else. But I like it just because it's got L and he does some really funny things in it

 

I've seen the movies. I do prefer the ending to the second movie than the final episode.

I still like the fact that Light is the loser in all of this, but I find it very meaningful that L gave up his life. He sacrificed his own life to save the lives of those who may not have deserved it. Someones one must sacrifice oneself for the greater good.

 

When I first read the manga toward the end I found myself rooting for Light and hoping he'd win. Only afterwards did I realise exactly what I was supporting xD I thought the ending was exactly how it should have been, I have watched the anime way too many times yet each time I'm still amazed at all the figuring out and clever plans they do, it amazes me how they come to conclusions.

I was also surprised since the endings in the anime and manga re different, not much- it's still the same outcome but I liked the manga ending better.

 

GAHHHHH Ending ruined.

Just joshing, I've seen it like 3 times. But I'm watching it again so I'll pretend you ruined the ending.

 

A summary of the ending:

Light died.
Misa (presumably) committed suicide.
L has been dead since the beginning of Season 2.
Rem is dead. :'(
Ryuk went back to the Shinigami world and turned into a bitter old hermit.
Mikami is dead.
Everyone else that matters is alive.

 

when did Misa commit suicide? They show her at the ending

 

They don't mention it in the anime.

In the 13th volume of the manga (basically an anthology of the series), it lists Misa Amane's death on Feb. 14, 2011 (the events of the final episode happening on January 28, 2010). I don't remember if they put the cause of death, but a lot of people like to speculate suicide. In the movies however, you see that she's living a functional life in the final part of the second movie. With the ending of an anime, I think they were going for an artsy look or something, since it is the end of the series.

 

no, I mean at the end of the manga they show her in a robe with a bunch of other people. Maybe I missed something. I've never actually finished the manga, I just scanned(too much reading, good God). But I did read the last few pages since there wasn't so much dialogue after Light's death

 

Did you notice that she was at the top of a building and outside the safety rail? Yeah.

On the end of the manga, Word of God says that the girl in the parade just looks like her.

 

That's not Misa. The creators were asked if that was Misa (again, check volume 13). They answered that it was just a follower of Kira, not Misa.

 

ooohhh, but if that wasn't Misa, than that means....DUNDUNDAHH!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! WHAT'S THE POINT THAN?

 

More or less to make the ending somewhat dramatic. These people have basically lost their god (kira's disappeared for a year at that time and it wasn't revealed to the public that Light Yagami was Kira).
