Just because nobody is posting 69,000 threads doesn't mean the community is dead or anything, its just vastly easier to talk via Skype among other things. I for one think the community has been quite lively for the past week or so.

As for a lack of posting/threads, if someone posted something interesting then naturally someone would reply. Do the math.

Yeah, uh, next time you try being witty, include the witty part. His joke post still included an actual purpose compared to your menial complaining.

 

Right. Because being funny has right and wrong ways.

 

...it does. Look at a generally low-received comedy film versus a generally well-received comedy film. Subjective as comedy may be, there are techniques to learn that do translate into better told jokes: timing, delivery, relevance, etc. I'm not talking from classroom learned tools or anything; just common sense.

 

There isn't a right way to be funny. There are techniques to not be bad at it, but no way to guarantee being good at it
A joke is almost entirely delivery, the rest is the audience (and the context surrounding the audience), with a small portion being reserved for the actual humour value of the joke

If there's anything that this shows it'd be Amaury's lack of understanding his audience, but if you guys are going to be hyper-aggressive dicks about it anyways, why would he want to?

 

Eh, he tried to be snarky at someone and I just pointed out how unfunny it was to me. Don't see how that's "hyper-aggressive," but I admit I'm often too abrasive to people here...sorry.

But to also give part of my perspective, I'm also not a fan of letting people's faults go just because it's typical behavior.
