Roxas thought over everything with Jeff and Brian, and realized that they were actually one big problem together, and he admitted that. "I guess," he started softly, keeping his eyes on the fire, "the problems with Jeff and Brian are really one. They're brothers, and in that sense, the two problems are connected..." Roxas' eyebrows were furrowed over his bright blue eyes as he stared at the fire, trying to concentrate.

 

Namine nodded slightly in agreement, keeping her eyes on the fire. Jeff and Brian were definitly connected, not only with family ties, but personality wise. They were both jerks. Selfish, cocky, arogant jerks.

 

"About what happened with Jeff..." Roxas bit his lip, stopping himself for a second before turning his head to look at Namine. "As much as I understood at the time that you wanted your space, I can't help but regret that I didn't go with you."

 

Namine lowered her head slightly, gazing at her legs that lay in front of her. "There's no way that you could have known that anything was going to happen," Namine stated softly, this time being the one to not look over when she spoke.

 

Roxas kept his eyes on Namine's face, only able to see the side of it. "I know..." he said softly in agreement. "But I'm glad that I did eventually, even if it was too late." The memories of Jeff hitting Namine came to his mind, and Roxas pressed his lips together.

 

...It was too late...? Namine repeated the words in her mind, taking them in. "You weren't too late," Namine said, her soft voice echoing through the room. "You came, and that's all that matters."

 

"I know, but I was too late to stop any harm from coming to you," Roxas stated, explaining his reference to arriving late. He turned his head to look ahead of him again, at the fire. He may have settled it, violently, but the aftermath wasn't that beautiful either.​

 

Namine turned her head slightly, facing Roxas even though he had looked away. "Maybe...but that doesn't change my feelings," Namine started. "You came, even when I didn't expect you to." She was referring to her surprise when she had seen Roxas at the end of the alley. It was logical that he shouldn't have even known about her predicament, but he did, and he had come to her rescue. "That's what matters."

 

Roxas nodded a little, turning his head a little to meet Namine's eyes. He saved her, which he was very grateful for having the chance to do. Namine mattered most to him, and her safety was important to Roxas. But...that thought brought back the point that Brian had made to him out in the yard, and he knew that problem was going to be discussed soon as well.

 

Namine's eyes met Roxas' in the silence, the girl seeing some of the firelight reflecting in his eyes. She heard the soft cackle of fire, but she didn't think about it, her main thoughts going into the conversation at hand.

 

"I'm glad that I found you," Roxas said softly. "If I didn't find you then...but found you later--" Roxas stopped himself, forcing his lips together. He didn't want to complete that thought...he really didn't want to complete that thought.

 

Namine paused for a moment, hearing Roxas cut himself off. That was a thought that neither of them wanted to elaborate on, so Namine brought the subject back to what really mattered. "I'm glad you found me too," she said softly, her light blue eyes staying connected with Roxas' ocean-blue orbs.

 

Roxas kept his eyes on Namine's, the warm, flickering glow from the fire reflecting in her eyes. As much as he wished he could've stopped any harm from coming to her, he knew that there was a reason as to why he couldn't. Unfortunately, he didn't know what that reason was.

 

"...Not only on that day, but today too," Namine added softly, knowing that was another subject that Roxas wanted to cover. What she said was absolutely true. If he hadn't come back when he did...bad things could have happened. No, not could have; would have. She knew that for sure now. Brian would have hurt her very badly if Roxas hadn't come back.

 

Roxas bit his lip at Namine's words, nodding in agreement. She probably didn't know how he had gotten that information. Jeff had helped with that, but some of it had also been a bit of a hunch after Brian's text message.

 

Namine pulled her eyes away for a moment, gazing at the floor in thought. She didn't care how Roxas had known that she was in trouble; it didn't make any difference now. She was just thankful that he had come...again.

 

Roxas lowered his gaze when Namine looked away, staring down at a part of the blanket over his shoulders. "I guess I can consider myself lucky," he started quietly. "Running into Jeff at the store was actually really fortunate."

 

Namine lifted her eyes at that last statement, still confused about how Roxas knew she was in trouble. Did Jeff know that his brother had come to Roxas' house? Did he send him there? Namine chased away that thought, remembering how strict Jeff had been with his brother. If it had been an act, it was very well coordinated. And she doubt that Jeff was smart enough to plan something like that.

 

"Though Jeff doesn't have a chance of redemption, he really did help me out," Roxas continued softly, blinking once. "If he didn't," Roxas started, lifting his piercing blue eyes to Namine's, "I wouldn't have found you." He felt thankful for Jeff's help, even if he still couldn't stand him.

 

Namine took in Roxas' words, her eyes locking with his. She nodded slightly. Though she didn't know the exact details, she knew that Jeff had helped Roxas some. She was thankful for that, even though she would never, ever like Jeff.
