KH - Fast Food Madness! V2

Roxas blinked once, his gaze suddenly lowering from Namine's eyes. He had seen the same emotions in her eyes from earlier, though he really wasn't that surprised that they hadn't disappeared. Roxas then turned his head, looking down at his legs that had the warm glow from the fire against his black sweats. The memories of earlier flowed into Roxas' mind, thoughts coming along with them.

 

Namine bit her lip lightly when Roxas looked away, a sad feeling hitting her heart. She softly inhaled as she turned her head, her gaze falling on the fire again.

 

Roxas stared at his legs with half-opened eyes, blinking softly as the memories flooded with the thoughts. Brian had attacked Namine...because of him. He was the reason she was in trouble all the time...

 

Another bolt of lightning appeared in the sky outside, though Namine hardly noticed it. Actually, that was a lie; she did notice it, simply because it had illuminated the room with its flash. And the loud rumble of thunder that followed it caught her attention as well.

 

Roxas took in a silent breath. He was always saving Namine after she was threatened or harmed, and it made him feel terrible to know that he couldn't protect her completely. He had saved her, but hadn't protected her. Roxas would jump in front of a bullet for her, and he knew he would act as her shield without hesitation. Always. Back at the warehouse, he had saved her from the bullet that had soared her way, but barely. That hurt Roxas a little at the time, but he felt broken after the incident that followed that.

 

Namine shifted slightly, the air around her feeling heavy and thick with emotions. She had a feeling some of those emotions were hers, though she felt an aura of sadness coming from Roxas as well. Still, she remained silent, not wanting to say something stupid and make things worse.

 

Roxas cringed very little at the memory of Smith, his eyes closing for a second before he opened them halfway again. His eyes found the fire, which reminded him of the fiery rage that had gone through him when Smith had harmed and threatened Namine. And Roxas had taken that heated frustration out on the man, killing him, like the punk deserved. But after that, and during it really, Namine had been harmed. Again. He couldn't protect her. Again. He had barely saved her. Again.

 

Namine bit down hard on her lip one time, her eyes shutting halfway as she gazed at the floor. Everything felt so wrong now...so uncomfortable. She hated having that feeling around Roxas, feeling as though she was responsible for hurting him whenever she was in pain. He loved her, which meant that he felt her pain whenever she went through something difficult or troubling. But she didn't want that burden on him; her love for him was too great for her to ever want to cause him to be upset.

 

And then the next day, right after the traumatic experience both of them had gone through, Jeff had to come into the picture. If Roxas hadn't let Smith affect Namine so greatly, she wouldn't have needed to go out on a walk, and then Jeff would have never hurt her, physically and mentally. Roxas hadn't been there in time to stop the pain from reaching her, but he had saved her from any further pain, that was true. But yet again, he hadn't protected her like he had vowed; he hadn't been her shield; he hadn't been her guardian angel, to protect her from anything harmful.

 

Namine slowly released a breath through her nose, her eyes moving to the fire again. She just wished that everything could return to normal; no more pain or sorrow. Because of all that happened, everything was miserable, and Namine felt as if she couldn't get rid of that feeling. That was just one more thing that bothered her; her inability to do anything anymore. It hurt her to know that she always seemed to be the vulnerable one, always getting in trouble...always needing to be saved.

 

And after protecting Namine, because Roxas had let her go alone to the park, Brian wanted to avenge his brother. And that was where today came in. Roxas had gotten to his house in time to stop Brian, along with Jeff's help, from doing something terrible to Namine. But he had threatened her, which just proved Roxas' own point; he was failing to protect Namine, miserably. First it was Smith, and then Jeff, and then Brian. It was like a pattern that Roxas couldn't change!

 

Namine hated that feeling of frustration, which nagged her endlessly. First she had been held hostage by Smith, then Jeff, and then today...it was Brian. The mere thought of him made Namine shiver slightly, despite the warm fire. She really, really disliked him, and all the feelings he stirred inside her. She was always getting into trouble, and she could never get herself out of it. She hated being in that position, but she hated even more that it put Roxas in such an awkard position. He shouldn't have to worry about protecting her all the time, but things were so screwed up lately...the girl having been in danger three times within the past week.

 

Roxas remembered what Brian had said to him a little while ago, about his ability to protect Namine. "You know, you're really not so tough. No wonder Namine always seems to find herself in such dangerous situations; her boyfriend can't protect her," he had said. That alone had hit a soft spot in Roxas' heart, causing him to feel guilt and sadness.

 

But...Namine didn't blame Roxas at all. How could she? He always came when she needed him...all the time. In two of those situations, there was no way that Roxas should have known that she was in danger. But he did, somehow, and he had saved her from both those situations. Jeff...and Brian.

 

Roxas took in a breath as the last words Brian spoke played in his mind. "Once I'm done with you, maybe I'll go back inside and tell Namine what a failure her boyfriend is. And then I'll take her for myself, since you obviously can't care for her too much if you keep letting her get in trouble like this." Roxas closed his eyes at the memory, the words causing him to feel as if someone had knocked the wind out of him because of their accuracy. Even if he was protecting Namine in a way, he was also allowing harm to come to her. And he hated it. Maybe Brian was right... Would Namine be better off with somebody else?

 

Namine subconciously bit her lip, her eyes suddenly feeling dry as she pulled herself away from her thoughts. She blinked several times, her soft blue eyes staying on the fire. Those were saddening thoughts, and Namine didn't want to bring up any more of that feeling. Especially not when things were already so awkward. If she had to cover up her emotions, than she would. The only emotion that she wanted to feel was happiness; or peace. But she knew those feelings were far out of reach at the moment.

 

Roxas opened his eyes as that thought popped in his mind, startling even him when it came up. He knew that he would love and did love Namine more than any other guy ever could. But...what if she really was safer with someone else? With someone who didn't let any harm come to her, and actually succeeded in keeping that promise?

 

Namine slowly let her eyes flicker shut before opening them again, the silence in the room almost unbearable.

 

Roxas forced his eyes shut tight, trying his hardest to push those thoughts aside. No. He couldn't think like that. Ever. He never wanted to let Namine go; he wanted to be hers forever, and have her as his forever. It just seemed right. And even thinking of letting her go into someone else's arms made him want to wrap his arms around her form and never release her.

 

Namine inhaled softly, another rumble of thunder occuring outside. The sound of pouring rain filled her ears as well, that sound having been there the whole time. She sighed very quietly, moving and setting her legs in front of her, her knees close to her chest as she gazed at the fire.
