KH - Fast Food Madness! V2

Sora silently kept his eyes locked with Kairi's, trying to see what she was thinking. The kind gesture he was performing continued as he gently searched her eyes.

 

Kairi could feel Sora's gaze deepening into her eyes, so she let him read her eyes. She didn't really know what to say at the moment, not knowing how to start a conversation that wasn't touchy. Kairi figured that letting Sora see the emotions inside her would make it a bit easier to understand, but then again, sometimes nothing was that easy.

 

Sora held his breath as he gazed deeply into Kairi's eyes, finally seeing all the emotions that were inside her heart. Sadness. Pain. Fright. Comfort. Trust. What was the trust for? Sora immediatly knew that the trust was for him; she was trusting him to search her eyes and understand what she was feeling, and he wasn't taking that for granted. The trust they held was so deep that he had thought it could never die, but the experiences yesterday had been quite traumatizing. Still though, he was glad that their trust hadn't changed.

 

Kairi blinked once, her violet-blue eyes staying on Sora's. The look in his eyes told her that he had discovered the emotions inside her, which caused her to bite her lip slightly. She didn't want it to make him upset, or any more than he already was.

 

Sora blinked softly, pulling himself away from the thoughts. He had found what he needed to know, and now that he did know what Kairi was feeling, he could comfort her better. At least, he hoped he could. He loved her with all his heart, and his love shone in his eyes, despite the tension that surrounded them.

 

Kairi flitted her eyes away from his, looking down for a second as she nibbled on her lip. She didn't know what to feel...or to think. The aura in the room was still the same...so what did that mean?

 

Sora felt sadness again when Kairi tore her eyes away from his, not knowing what to think anymore. He slowly lowered their hands, keeping his gaze on them at the movement. Apparently he wasn't doing a very good job comforting her...

 

Kairi exhaled softly, closing her eyes. "I don't want you to blame yourself," she said softly before biting her lip again. The guilt was still there, and she could sense it, along with what she thought was shame.

 

Sora held onto Kairi's hand lightly, his blue eyes flitting back up to her face only to see that her eyes were closed. The statement had surprised him, and he instinctively wanted to ask her what she meant. But he was afriad that would bring up some unwanted emotions. But at the same time, if they didn't talk, then what? Their relationship involved clear communication, even in the hard times.

 

"Because I got hurt," Kairi elaborated, opening her eyes to see Sora's form out of the corner of her eye and then flitting them to him, "I don't want you to blame yourself for it." Somehow, the look in his eyes made her feel as if she were mistaken by her own assumption. But if he wasn't upset about that, then what was it?

 

Sora felt his eyes connect with Kairi's again, and he silently wondered how she had been so dead on about his emotions. It was then he remembered he easily he was read...not just by her, but by anyway. With her, she could clearly see his emotions and thoughts because they were so close. The teen blinked one time, returning to the matter at hand. "That's easier said than done," Sora stated quietly, not tearing his eyes away from hers.

 

Kairi furrowed her eyebrows slightly, realizing then that she was right. "Why do you blame yourself, Sora?"

 

Sora was a little taken back by the question, not expecting Kairi to be so direct. He had to think for a moment, trying to sort through his thoughts to figure that out himself. "I suppose..." he started off carefully, his eyes darting down for a moment before locking with Kairi's again. "...I just wish that things couldn't have gone as far as they had. You were taken away from me, and at that moment, it felt as if I had failed you. I didn't protect you when you needed me most, so I guess that's why I see your injuries and blame myself." Sora finished the last sentence, all of the words leaving his lips a little more slowly than usual because he had to piece together his thoughts in a way that sounded logical.

 

Kairi grasped Sora's hand a little tighter with hers, her eyebrows no longer furrowed in curiosity. "...If you hadn't let them take me," she started slowly, just the thought of her next words making her uneasy, "they would've done...worse...than just hurt me." Kairi's eyes saddened at the situation, and at the memory of Carter's words yesterday, before he and Smith took her away.

 

Sora lowered his head slightly, his eyes shutting at the memory. Yes, of course. Carter had threatened to...kill her, if he hadn't let them take her away. He had been so thoughtful about everything else in the situation, that he had nearly forgotten about that part.

 

Kairi bit her lip, knowing she brought up a touchy subject. It wasn't surprising exactly, how disturbing it was to remember that moment. A threat like that was never forgettable.

 

"Well, I guess that you're right there..." Sora's voice broke through the silence, the teen lifting his head again and opening his ocean-blue eyes to Kairi's soft orbs. "Still though, I just wish it hadn't happened to you. You don't deserve any of the pain or hurt they put you through." The brunette's gentle gaze locked onto Kairi's again, his words hanging in the air.

 

Kairi nodded slowly at Sora's words, agreeing with him as she pressed her lips together. "I know," she started softly, glancing away for a second. "You would think that if I was so valuable to them, they wouldn't have done those things..." Her eyes automatically found her wrists, her mark on her cheek also coming to mind as she flitted her eyes back up to Sora.

 

"Are those your only injuries?" Sora asked, flitting his eyes to her wrists and then back up to her eyes. If they had hurt her in any other way, it would only hurt him more deeply. He supposed that her pain wasn't really his fault after all, and that new way of thinking came from Kairi's simple point. Nonetheless, he didn't want her to be in pain.

 

Kairi bit her lip a little before speaking. "My arms hurt a little, just from being behind my back for so long," she explained, answering his concerned question. Of course, those were only the physical injuries.
