We all know that Final Fantasy Dissidia was a great service to fans with a surprising lack of Kingdom Hearts characters.

Now, with KH3 on the way (with a release of about 2-3 years from now), as well as KH 2.5 coming in the following year, that still leaves a huge time gap between KH 2.5 and KH3. In this amount of time, Square Enix could easily release a Dissidia-esque Kingdom Hearts game where you can play as any character in the KH universe and face off against each other.

Do you think this is likely? What system would you want it for? Should only original KH characters be playable, or should FF and Disney characters in the series be playble as well? Should the battle system be similar to FF: Dissidia? Should the story of this game be canon? Should there even be a story mode in this game? Should there be a multiplayer game mode?

Apparently Ichiro Hazama (Dissidia producer) let it slip in an interview with Famitsu that he' d like to make a third Dissidia, but I wouldn' t expect anything but FF characters.

Didn't Dissida start off as a KH game but Disney said no?

Was it surprising? The game was made for Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary, and it stayed well within the trappings of the series proper in every respect. I would've found it more surprising, and kind of jarring at that, to see KH characters included.

Any rate, I don't see it happening. There's not enough content in the KH series to make it as compelling. Plus Dissidia was in part a breath of life for the older FF games; all of the KH games are in recent memory, not to mention being ported and updated, so there's really no reason to go through with it.

    Where did you hear this?[DOUBLEPOST=1385689336][/DOUBLEPOST]
Well, KH originally was supposed to just be FF + Disney + original characters, but, lo and behold, we see The World Ends With You characters in KH3D. So, I personally wouldn't have been surprised if they tacked in Sora and/or Riku as bonus characters. It's all Square Enix games, after all.

Exactly what content are you talking about? To make a fighting game, all you really need is fighters (and maybe a tacked on storyline for Arcade mode) and the KH series has a lot of that. Sora (maybe Sora's different drive forms can count as different characters too?), Riku, Ven, Terra, Aqua, ALL OF ORGANIZATION XIII, the Xehanorts (Master Xehanort, Xehanort's heartless, Terranort), etc. The last dissidia had 28 characters, and I just listed 21 original KH characters. So, if character count isn't an issue, then I don't see what the issue is.

Yeah, and most of the FF games were already ported to the DS/PSP, are about to get an HD remake (FF X) or are for sale on PSN, and are therefore still in recent memory. Hell, the last FFXIII sequal came out last year, and Lightning is in the game.

Plus, why does it matter if some of the games were released recently or not? It's a game for fans, and it's to hold us over till KH3. Additionally, they would probably get a lot of money for it if they release it multi-platform (both last gen and current gen), and it probably wouldn't take that long (the "story" that it has doesn't even have to be canon, like in FF: Dissidia).

Then the villains would be stacked a mile high against the heroes. You'd have to drag in extras, and figure out where to draw the line for Disney character inclusions (if at all), and there'd barely be any decent stages, and I don't see them coming up with a battle theme for each character, and only two or three of the characters you just named have enough techniques to draw upon for a full moveset, and...

I could go on and on, but KH really isn't built to be a fighter. Any attempt would just seem forced.

I'm not talking about the forward half of the cast, I'm talking about the back half. Most of those ports aren't nearly as comprehensive and didn't get NEARLY the same level of buzz as KH1.5 did. Plus they weren't that recent in relation to Dissidia's release, not all of them.

Because they need to stop holding us over with half-assed projects and actually make KH3. It could've been out much sooner than this, and several of the games meant to tide us over weren't really necessary.

People seem to underestimate the amount of work that goes into a project like that. Squeenix already has their hands full.

Gonna have to disagree heavily here. I can easily think of plenty of moves for Sora, Riku, Xehanort, Vanitas, Xemnas, Ansem Terra, Aqua, Ventus, Mickey, any of Org XIII. They use plenty of abilities in their boss fights, and more abilities can be inferred. beyond that you can take existing abilties and rework them to fit a fighting game. Kefka didn't use Extra-Crispy-Firaga in the actual game, they just came up with it to add to his character. Many of the old FF bosses had next to nothing to work with, so they just made stuff up.
On the villains side we have how many characters... 15. For heroes we have Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Terra, Aqua, Ventus, Axel, Roxas, Xion, Donald and Goofy. 12:15 isn't THAT crazy, plus personally I think KH2 and KH1 Sora should be seperate characters, and maybe the same deal with Riku. Oh and I guess you could throw Eraqus in there.
I mean, don't forget that all the Org members were playable in Days. Between that and their multiple boss fights, there are plenty of moves to draw from, and if you run out they have convenient themes that makes finding new abilities easy.

I honestly agree with this but not in the way you're saying it. KH as a traditional fighter would be really awkward. However, Dissidia and KH combat are two seps remvoed. I don't think it would take much of a transition.

If Square really didn't want KH3 to be half-assed they wouldn't have let the people behind Dream Drop Distance make it.

If they lift the engine from Dissidia it wouldn't be thaaaat hard

I think it would be awesome but I doubt it would ever be made. Just not something I see happening for some reason.
Though it may be a little redundant compared to FF's Dissidia. KH is so action-oriented already that it would feel less special than Dissidia coming from a predominantly turn-based franchise.

Yeah... as long as Disney has a say in things, a KH Dissidia is impossible.

If Disney didn't have a say against a KH-themed Dissidia, then it would be possible. But sadly it will never happen....

Have they said that they don't want to make one?

Not that I'm all that upset if they did, but you say it as if they've addressed the matter.

    I had no idea.

Well... I guess we should give up on this ever being a thing.

    Well never say never.
And I mean, all it'd REALLY take is a team of dedicated modders ala Project M

True that. Hell, some people have already modded Dissidia to have KH characters (although, all they did was change some characters' skins).

I would absolutely love if a KH: Dissidia were ever made. Hopefully it does get made one day, or some kind of fighting game that you can duke it out as each KH character going against one another. I don't mean just a mode like the mirage arena, or the mission system in days, I want a fully fledged game dedicated to it. That's what I want for xmas; an announcement of that kind of thing (probably won't get it)

if they were going to ever make it it would have to have a great story like in dissidia cause dissidia was an amazing prequel to FF1 and FFV if you payed attention closely
