People who say that a gaming company making a console is doomed, usually reminds me of those people saying 'the rapture is coming, hell on earth we're doomed' kind of thing.
They keep telling me every time something happens in the industry, but for years, nothing has changed. We still have PCs, Playstations, Xboxz, Nintendos. And we will probably for another decade to come give or take a couple years.

And i'm telling you now, SteamBox, this thing needs to happen on a major marketing scale and then the rest will be left in the dust.

The Punk Box One is a system I will not be buying. Even if I had the money I'm not getting the PS4 either because I have things to pay off. I will however watch E3 and laugh at the Microsoft conference the moment it starts, and when it ends. I can't wait to see this system flop, but if it pulls through good for them. Still won't be buying it because I hate xbox, but I wish them the best of luck for is this fails it could cause a lot of problems in the gaming world, and possibly the economy seeing as how expensive this industry is.

I have yet to find one reason to get an Xbox One when I have a solid gaming PC, and to a lesser extent (for me), DirecTV.

With the Wii U, Playstation 4, and the Xbox One, I see no problem proclaiming PC supremacy for the "next" generation.

 

If you have the cash for a decent gaming pc.

Investing in a decent gaming PC is, in the long run, actually a lot cheaper than getting a next-gen console, paying for games (usually at much higher prices), and then for the Xbox, paying for online services.

Not to mention you can use it for, y'know, everything else that consoles can't do.

Here's my problem.

Consoles used to be cheap. Like, Christmas-present-that-doesn't-run-you-out-of-Christmas-money cheap. You could get one as a supplement to your other entertainment, like a DVD player, or a...bookshelf, I guess. It was something else to do for fun, and it did its job, and nobody was disappointed. Now these consoles cost as much as a decades-lasting (under absolute optimal circumstances) system that houses 90% of everything you do in a day, can't do any of it as efficiently, and will be obsoleted and replaced in about five or six years with something even more costly. Why couldn't consoles just be consoles and leave the PCs, MP3 players, and for fucksakes, TELEVISIONS, literally to their own devices? What's the big deal about dickloads of processing power? Why does every new IP have to sell more copies than there are humans on planet Earth to be a financial gain? When are game devs gonna learn that gamers will happily play a fat old mess of polygons like Final Fantasy VII before we'll play the billion-dollar triple-A brownbloom garbage they're spewing like an out-of-control fax machine?

I scarcely even want to get new games or gaming hardware anymore, it's become so expensive. I'm not prepared or able to sink thousands of dollars into what I, regretfully, can still only call a hobby. So as long as my laptop can run a game that I find fun, one that may not be the Mona Lisa but doesn't physically make my eyes bleed, I think I'll just go for that, thanks big 3.
