"Good, because the worst thing they could do would be attack you, but I'll try my best to prevent that." They continued walking silently.

 

"I'm used to being attacked. It's Kuju I'm worried about as he is vulnerable in his condition and we can't leave him behind. I won't. He needs us."

 

".......C...o...." faint words came from Kujus mouth.

 

Kyla held him close. "It's alright." She stopped and adjusted the blankets, wrapping him warmly. "I won't leave you or let you suffer."

 

"....C....oll...e...t..e..." He again tryed to speak only uttering a name.

 

Suddenly Kyla thought she understood. She held Kuju against her and kissed his head. "You miss her, don't you. She must have been very special to you."

 

"...Y..o...,.Re.....m....i...nd...,..Offfff..,...C....oll...e...t..e..." He struggled to say slightly moving his head to her shoulder.

 

"Please don't struggle, you are safe. I promise nothing bad will happen to you. I won't let it. Was Colette your wife?" Kyla held him tightly.

 

He listened to all of this intently, a little jealous. He made it appear like he wasn't paying any attention, though.

 

Kuju had once again fainted, now he needed to rest.

 

Kyla hugged Kuju against her, keeping him warm. She smiled at Tor. "You don't have to be jealous. I protect Kuju but it is you I love." She looked at Kuju sleeping in her arms. "I think he lost his family to humans."

 

"I'm not jealous." he lied. "What makes you think I'm jealous?"

 

"Well you've been keeping your distance, and you sound guilty." Kyla smiled at him. "I'd be surprised if you weren't jealous. I have been hugging another male for some time."

 

"I um......I ummm...I......" he stammered. He was speechless.

 

"I'm right, aren't I? You really are jealous of Kuju? I may have lived alone for a while but I still traded with the village and learned about emotions."

 

He felt ashamed of himself. "I am jealous, but only a little bit." he said.

 

"Kuju needs me at the moment as he is vulnerable and sick. Would you rather I betray him? What can I do to make you less jealous?"

 

"Nothing, I'm fine now." he said. He felt awful for being jealous.

 

"I need to rest soon. Unlike you men I have been carrying another for some time. Please can we stop for a short while. " Kyla looked at them hopefully.

"Of coarse." he said. "We can eat too. I'll go hunt for something to eat."
