Kalian - 150PA (Post Apocalypse)

"I think you are realising what it feels like to be cared for and loved. Is it really so strange to you? You must have had a family at some point."

 

"No, never." He started crying. "I've been alone my whole life."

 

Kyla put her arms around him and let him cry into her shoulder. She remembered the warmth of a family, and how empty everything was when they were killed. If only Tor had felt that bond, perhaps he would be more able to deal with his past.

 

Is this what it's like to be loved? he thought. His heart was thumping in his chest. "What's it like to be in love?" he asked.

 

"I...I don't know. The love of a family is different to being in love. That involves one special person. Why, are you in love with someone?"

 

"I think so." he said. His heart was beating a mile a minute. "And I think it's with you."

 

"That can't be. You hardly know me and anyway, we are different. I........I think you must be mistaken." Kyla blushed and turned away. What was it with males today?

 

He laid back. "You don't feel the same." he said, felling stupid. "I knew it."

 

"I hardly know you. Perhaps with time, but for now I would rather we were friends. I'm so sorry."

 

He rolled on to his side, away from her. "It's fine." he said, lying. He shed a single tear.

 

Kyla carefully covered him with a blanket. 'Why do I feel so bad?' she thought. 'I've really hurt him. I could have been kinder.'
"I really am sorry" she said, feeling her heart sink.

 

He closed his eyes and shed a few more tears. "I'm fine." he repeated. His heart was now broken.

 

Kyla noticed the light catching his tears. "No you are not alright. I have a confession, I feel terrible. Perhaps its a defense because I've been on my own for so long. I get scared as well you know. Please don't cry. At least let me dry them for you."

 

"Alright." he said. He turned around to face her. "As long as we are being honest, you've broken my heart."

 

"I never meant to. It's all so sudden and so much. I have had a fright this afternoon and someone tried to force me into marriage. I guess I panicked as you scared me with your revelation. Please forgive me." Kyla began to cry. She was now totally confused and angry with herself.

 

He felt terrible. "It's okay. I'm sorry I said that."

 

"No it isn't ok. I was cold and unsympathetic. I stink at social stuff. Maybe I should be on my own." She got up and slowly walked through to the main room. She had never thought that he held such feelings for her, she thought no one did.

 

He tried hard and got to his feet. He walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. "I am truly sorry, I didn't mean what I said."

 

Kyla turned and caught him in her arms. "You shouldn't be on your feet. It's true, I should have been more thoughtful to your feelings."
She looked directly into his eyes, holding him against her so that he didn't fall.

 

"I should have waited to confess my feelings. I didn't know. This is all new to me."
