He took it. "Thanks." he said. He took a sip. "Taste's nasty!"

 

"My granddad used to say the things that are best for you taste worst. He said this contained aspirin, whatever that is.."
Kyla took the beaker from him.

 

"Your granddad sounds like a smart guy." he said. The pain started getting more bearable. "What was his name again?"

 

"His name was Kyle. He was killed with my parents. I really miss them all. You would have liked him and he would have convinced you that you have nothing to atone."

 

"I am sure I would have." He coughed and said "Maybe I'll meet him again, in the next life." He coughed again.

 

"Not for a long time then. You will be fine. No one dies in my care, it's not allowed."

 

"I'll try not to." he said, smiling. He frowned and clutched his throat. "I think that drink burned my throat or something."

 

Kyla held up a small mirror. "Say Ahh! I'll have a look. I'm sure you will be fine, but I'll just check."

 

"Like this?" he asked. He opened his mouth wide.

 

"Perfect" Kyla used the mirror to direct light into his throat. "Well it's red and swollen. I think with a little TLC you will be fine." She grinned and put away the mirror.

 

He closed his mouth. "What's TLC?" he asked. He was confused.

 

"You really have been cut off from a family environment. It stands for tender loving care. Granddad taught me that."

He thought for a little bit. "I choose Kyla." (since I don't know who the other choice is) "She is the only one I trust enough."

 

"Don't worry, you are safe with me, I'm a herbalist by training so hopefully you will thrive, along with your healing abilities as a demon. You need to rest."

 

"Thank you." He put his hand on her cheek. "I don't know what this emotion I'm feeling is, but it's nice."
