[Yes, another K-on thread but not general]

Funny thing its still on-going in the BDs, but still quite an accomplishment... considering its a show about girls drinking tea. Oh well, whatever keeps the industry alive I suppose.

I am very surprised by this, especailly that it's this show. Don't get me wrong, I loved K-on and cannot wait for FUNimation to release the english dub but it had a Lucky Star kind of feeling to it. It didn't feel like it was going anywhere at times and it centered around four girls who just talked about their random, daily lives. Well, as long as it means more anime is on the way, I don't really care.

Speaking as someone who likes the first season of the show (don't get me started on the mediocrity of the second season): What the **** is wrong with the anime fanbase in Japan? There are far better written, far deeper and, hell, even far better animated shows that people could be watching. Hell, Beck is a great example of a better written, better animated and far deeper music anime, but yet, K-On, the show the moe anti-fanbase uses as the ultimate example of suck, is the first show to sell that much?

I expect a sizable flood of bad moe shows thanks to K-On's success.

Heh, but of course K-On would be this popular.
It's one of the most popular anime in Japan.
The Otaku there are crazy enough to celebrate the character's birthdays etc lol
and it is just plain awesome regardless! XD
I have all the songs :P

I agree completely. Being a fan of the show myself, I mean its cute and funny... but not once did I even try to compare it to some of the beyond superior anime I've seen. I mean k-on doesn't have a plot of any kind, especially in the second season. To be honest the only reason I watched it because it was airing when I did so it was one episode per week.

But yeah, there's a lot of moe shows starting to pop up... not sure if they will ever come close to k-on, and frankly I hope they don't for the industry's sake.

Personally the show I feel that has superior Moe themes in it (and I'm sure you'll agree with me based on your sig RvR lol)
    Is Yumekui Merry.
Merry has so much cuteness but can be badass and awesome all at the same time :P
I still think K-On is great lol, and it is popular for a good reason.

Merry is one of the few animes this season that actually has a plot though. I mean personally so far it has that D.Gray-man feel to it, at least in the last 3 episodes. I mean yeah it has a few moments of fan service, but they don't drag it on forever like most shows are doing nowadays.

I dunno. there have been a few animes with a plot this season I think:
Dragon Crisis! (Awesome, great plot! and the Tsundere queen is voicing Rose ¦3)
    Yumekui Merry (already discussed)
Inifinite Stratos (felt a bit generic at first, but I like it personally, it's gotten better as the eps have gone by.)
Freezing (yes... it has more than it's fair share of fan-service... but... still a great story, and plenty of action.)
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (this one most definitely has, it's been declared the most popular new anime this season, and for bloody good reason! XD)

Lol Freezing does not have a plot >.>

Seven episodes in and its still a Ikki Tousen reject. It's supposed to be about a war with aliens, but we'll see if it even gets to that point.

    Forgive me for disagreeing.
Yes, I see what you mean by the Ikki Tousen reject thing.
However, currently, they are introducing characters still and setting up the history and themes of the anime (many other anime's have done the exact same thing in a similar way - and have proven to be successful still)
And they are showing that the bond between Satella and Kazuya is developing. I mean the last episode went and showed Sat's past, which obviously has some major plot relevance. It's not the sort of thing that can be rushed I think in that regard. If they did speed through it, I think it would ruin it and make the audience feel a little uncomfortable.
They'll smash up the aliens later, right now. It just

So its a plotless mess of badly animated fanservice with no real characterization to speak of that could have been good due to a great idea for a premise (seriously, the heroes of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms reincarnated in modern times is a great idea, but Ikki Tousen is absolute garbage)?

Well they better hurry up then, pretty sure its only 12 episodes? Unless they make another season, but I've heard it is already migrating from the manga already.

Pretty much, just schoolgirls fighting and their clothes ripping on their chest no matter where they get hit.

And now let us weep for the industry when this turns out to be more successful than anything that's actually good in this season (speaking of which, I keep hearing that Infinite Stratos is really good, but nothing else about this season.)

Freezing had some potential when it started, but when it's halfway done and it's still where it started from then there's not much to expect from it later.

I dont like anime like K-ON, but to me this one is an average anime I like to follow. I'm not sure what made it so popular.

Not that surprised about this. Although I'll admit that it's amazing how a small yonkoma like K-ON! became so popular after it got an anime.

So far from what I've seen, the most successful anime from this season would have to be Puella Magi Madoka Magica. While it has its moe aspects here and there, that's mostly a mask because then you remember that this is being written by Gen Urobuchi, directed by Akiyuki Shinbou and being produced by Shaft which means that this will end up being very depressing and will feel like an acid trip too. So far they seem to be doing a good job at doing both and making a good story as well imo. From what I've heard on Infinite Statros, the general consensus on the show is that it's outstanding it is in its genericness. It's starting to get better in each episode imo and it has potential too.

Madoka Magica as I said in one of my earlier posts, has been declared the most popular this season. And for good reason, the story has many twists, keeps you guessing, the style is popular, it's different from most other Magical Girl anime's etc etc.

Infinite Stratos, yes while originally viewed as generic has become increasingly popular with each new episode. Besides, a lot of anime now'a'days seem somewhat generic. This just needs more of a chance to spread it's wings and develop it's own sense of style.

As for Freezing, I see what everyone is saying, but I don't get why people think it's only 12 eps long? I've heard it's gonna be a fair bit longer. Also, yes it has differences to the manga. Some slight (such as Armourless pandora mode) and some slightly more major (like the whole Kazuya awakening his freezing circumstances). Either way, I still have a feeling Freezing will get much better with just a bit more time.
I also see the comparisons with Ikki-Tousen. But Ikki-Tousen just was ruined after the first season... They focused too much on the fan service, Freezing however doesn't necessarily focus on fan-service, it's just used to show how brutal some of the fights are. (Think kinda DragonballZ except with boobs)

All I can say is, just give these more of a chance really... :/
I mean, if they're airing as anime, they must be doing something right. It's not easy to have a manga turned into an anime after all, and getting made into a manga isn't easy in the first place. (Just watch Bakuman lol)
