So, on this other forum I used to go to(it was run on vBulletin, that's why I'm posting this), we did Signature of the Month, not Signature of the Week. We did that because it's easier to get a group of judges and gives a better timespan for entries.

Anyway, I'm not only suggesting we do that, but when we crown a winner, they get a different colored username. It doesn't need to grant any special privileges other than showing they won the SOTM. The other forum also gave a rep prize, but that's not important. I know that the Graphic Art section isn't the most "lively", but I think this might help a little. The decision is up to you guys, but I was thinking about it for a while and just thought I'd throw it out there.

We already have enough username colors. Besides, if we did this we'd need to make an equivalent for traditional artists, writers, etc. It's too much trouble; I think it's fine the way it is.

You wouldn't need to make a new color for each one, just make a new color for competition winners. And I see what you're saying, but that's when the people that are active in those sections could be "in charge", in a sense. Not like, power over people, but judging and deciding on other judges.

I saw on another forum that they had an actual awards system, I could provide links, since it's kept in history, but I'm not sure if the content of the website is permitted(not sure, since I stumbled upon it render searching) I think no, but they had this nice awards feature that would let you show them off and have them.

It would be nice to implement something like this. And then we'd have awards to commemorate everything, ranging from poetry contests, graphic contests and User Awards. That other forum was Vbulletin and it was version 3.7.6....I think we'd have no trouble installing something like this?

Yeah, because it gives this site something to it other than cutscenes.

But seriously, if we go with the names, contest winners should get bold gold. It's awesome. I'd rather not get the award system. That would mean we'd have to implement a new version of vB. Which I believe we'd have to have spdude do. Because we know he does so much for us.

Not really, I'm thinking RvR is able to do this simply. Besides, I do think that awards are more memorable, even when they are simply sprites, they could be stored in our profile for everyone to see.

I understand that the name color change is rather convenient and easier, but if something like this is to be done, then it's better that it be done right...of course if it's possible. I'm almost certain it is.

spdude is the only one that can update the forum version.

I don't really think it's necessary. There are usually only a few entries anyway; besides there'd be conflictions in name colors because of staff, prem, etc.

Not a bad idea, but I don't really think it'd work here.

This is one point I definitely agree with. People seem to forget this forum is about Kingdom Hearts. This would probably work better on a graphics site, or a writing site, or something like that. :/

That's why I'm suggesting this. There's only a few entries, but if there are prizes, no matter what they are, it might attract people to it. Plus, there are always people that think they can do better than the winners, so then they get started. Just thinking on using the awards as incentives for people to show their creativity. But like I said, it's up to the staff on the final decision.

I can see how that could work, but on the flip side, if it doesn't the same three to five people will always get the prize.
The color changes are a no, rep is a maybe, but it's been abused for the past...ever, so I don't know about that, and for any kind of real awards system we need spdude.

And as Misty said, we're not a hardcore graphics community, which is why SotW isn't as popular as it is on say, PlanetRenders.

Then why don't we give it a test run? See if it sparks more people. Then, we can expand it into other sections. Or we could, if possible, make groups. Like a graphic artist group, a writers group and so on. No special colors, but these competitions could take place within these own groups. And people could join the groups if they wished. The other forum had their own private sections for these groups, but we don't need that.

Sorry for the bump, but I like this idea alot actually. Maybe if we had stricter rules such as the same person cannot win twice in a row to keep the same people from winning. I think there should be a prize, but not a color change. Possibly an icon near their name showing a trophy if possible. Maybe even a colored username like RvR. THis would give a more attractive feel for the SotW/SotM.

How about a chance to change your user title once and only once as an award. This could also attract more people

BAD SIDE: confused members/newbies like me.

Members are able to change their user titles freely once they become premiums (Get 1000 posts and like 50-150 rep)...being a premium is enough to attract members already to wanting to change their usertitles.

    It's 100 rep and 1000 posts.
Yes but becoming premium is very hard for some members. Some are actuall busy day to day. So they don't have the time.

I'd be one already if I'd joined when I first heard of this site

The rep was removed as a requirement. The post count to 1000 is what it takes to get to Premium. Also, the user titles changing is a premium benefit and is not fair to pass it on to others. There is talk of competition stuff and all but there won't be any color name changes and such. There are already enough color name changes for different groups.

well I do admit it does take a long time for people to become premium but its not impossible. In fact, its easy enough to get that it would be irritating to some members if they made that an award since so many members can change their usertitles already.
