Two episodes in and this is now a priority in my life. <3

Also, the English dub is actually really good.
Might find a reason to edit with it if the Shizuo/Izaya conflict is really as good as I've heard

Durarara is extremely addicting. Sucks you in more and more the further you get into the series.
How everything comes together is too awesome. And the characters are great!
One of my favorites no doubt.

I really enjoyed the English dub.

Am I the only one who can't seem to make any anime a priority?
No matter how important it is to me I can never seem to sit down and watch it. I just get so bored.
Right now I'm watching one that I started about a month ago and I'm only 16 eps in of 50. It's the last full anime I ever intend to watch.

I just really hope they localize the books soon. I've read some fan translations, but I can't find them anymore and I really want to know what happens to Izaya.

You probably already know this, but it would seem that you and Anime are incompatible. You should probably break up with her before she gets too serious about it.

If Johnny Young Bosch is in it, the dub is automatically taking a -15 to all rolls regarding acceptance.

Other than the fact that I've considered him a fit for his cast role only once?

    What was that role?

Further, what makes him unfit for other cast roles? Please give specific examples. "He's a bad voice actor," is not an acceptable answer because that's the point I'm asking you to prove.

    Black Ranger.

There is no specific thing that makes someone good or bad, it's just can you believe they could be the person they're portraying or not when you hear them. Rather it's a combination of everything they do. Every little inflection, the natural timbre of their voice, their pacing and pronunciation. All of it comes down to the fact that when I hear his lines, I feel like it's a dude in a studio reading lines off a sheet of paper and wondering what he's gonna eat for lunch. He doesn't want to be there, he just wants to do the bare minimum to keep his job and that's it.

That's funny, because Black Ranger is my least favorite performance of his.

That's why I asked for multiple examples. When it comes to acting, it's never just one thing that makes a performance bad.

In most cases, I have found his performances believable. Maybe I just don't sweat the details where they count, but I don't see a problem with that. My only issue with him is that I can usually tell that it's his voice, but that's my main problem with the majority of live action actors too. I also have that problem with Steve Blum.

To be fair, he does have a band that he's much more passionate about. In the several panels of his that I've been to at various cons, he's indicated that he'd choose his band over his voiceovers without a second thought. The only roles that he mentioned being truly interested in were Kiba from Wolf's Rain, 15 from Bleach, and Adachi in Persona 4. Still, he's done a better-than-sub-par job in most of his works, so I don't consider that a bad thing.

Also, aren't most English voice actors like that? There's a reason subbed anime has better voice acting than English dubs and I'm sure it's no coincidence that Japanese dubs have a tendency to be better than the original English.

Need Izaya's coat. One of my favorite characters ever.

Eh, I was cool with Bosch voicing Izaya, since he voiced him and Lelouch I consider him chill. Loved both the original and dub. The manga is amazing too. Such brilliant plot development.

Johnny Bosch's anime voice-over career took off after he voiced Vash the Stampede in Trigun

Johnny Bosch has not had a good anime voice-over role since he voiced Vash the Stampede in Trigun

Ok well there've been a few since then I just had to say it that way to get the joke out

True story Johnny Bosch voices a sizable chunk of Makaze's favorite characters

No wonder he doesn't watch dubs

People always say this and it always makes me wonder. How the hell do you know if the voice acting is better if you don't know any Japanese? Some people that I've met who actually speak Japanese tend to say the exact same things about Japanese dubs that we do about English dubs so they're not all perfect. Now I will admit that seiyuus have a much better reputation and are respected more than English voice actors so production is probably better in Japanese but don't objectively say that the voice acting is better until you actually know Japanese or else you're just another purist weeaboo in my eyes.

As for Bosch, I feel that the guy is too pigeonholed and should be able to let his wings spread out more and I guess he's finally getting that chance. He's been Lelouch, Rossiu, Adachi and Izaya among other roles and he's about to be Uryuu Ryunnosuke from Fate/Zero. All of these roles that are very different from his usual type and from what I've seen, he's done a convincing job with them too.

No, you're not. I'm loving the books. Mikado <3

I'll admit that "better voice acting" was bad wording on my part. What I really meant to say was that it sounds better, and the only reason for it to sound better that I can think of is that the voice acting is better. I apologize for that miswording on my part.

Also, I do acknowledge when an English dub sounds better than its Japanese counterpart. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a good example. I don't know what it is about Aya Hirano's Haruhi, but it's really annoying compared to Wendee Lee's version. It's especially strange because I don't have a problem with most of Aya's other roles, just Haruhi.
