    That was part of the deal, when Marvel was approached with a Japanese series. Robots were popular in Japan, at the time (still are), so they gave Spidey a giant robot. In the series, they also changed his origin, him receiving his powers from a dying alien instead of the radioactive spider we're used to.

    I remember reading somewhere that because Spider-Man had a giant (non-spider >:) robot, Super Sentai started using robots, which leads to the Power Rangers using them as zords. So in a way, Super Sentai/the Power Rangers are a combination of Spider-Man and the 70's Kamen Rider.

    Now all we need is a thread each about the Beetle Borgs and VR Troopers and we have a full set :lolface:
