Good. I don' t give a rat' s ass about Avatar, but the sooner he' s done with his hippie smurf trilogy the sooner he' ll finally kick-start Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita.

Maybe he'll also make a bunch of spin-offs on TV and the radio, as well as a few movies that'll be exclusive to channels that not everybody has all of.

If he makes "My Little Na'vi: Conservation is Magic", I'm leaving the planet.

Sequels imply that he's got more than one in mind.

    Avatar 4. What?

Let's see if you can make two sequels first.

If Avatar is a ripoff off of Pocahontas, FernGully, Dances with Wolves, Call Me Joe, Noon Universe, The Last Samurai, and The Word for World is Forest, does that mean all of those movies and novels are ripoffs off of each other?

Too bad that's too much text for one of those "Conspiracy Keanu" memes, it fits perfectly.

As much as I fear a long line of perhaps disappointing sequels, I've got to admire his extreme dedication as an artist.

I don't understand all the **** Cameron gets for making Avatar like Pocahontas. It's an archetypal story with archetypal themes that's been done a million times before. Pocahontas isn't even the first instance of this kind of thing, and it was a real event (except for almost everything Disney turned it into). It's impossible to avoid archetypes in fiction, it's all about presenting it in an original way, which I thought he did a great job of.

On making only Avatar sequels, I think it's a lame move. The original Avatar did well because of it's original presentation and it's fabulous use of 3D. The fact that he sees Avatar as the only way for him to present the ideas he wants to express in film shows that he's become unoriginal. It's one thing to explore the world and tell other stories that take place in that universe and to present other stories too, but he isn't writing books. People have different expectations of films than of books, and it's going to negatively affect the movie's box office performance.People are going to see it as a way to milk the cash cow (which I wouldn't doubt as one of his motives), and if it were a book series, people would see it as a way to explore the world he created.

Especially considering the way he announced the news, that he is "going into the Avatar business" makes it seem like his motives are not that of an artist looking to express and convey ideas, but rather as a fool-proof way to make a shitload of money. It's a bad move and he's going to get a shitload of criticism over this for the rest of his career.

You are all forgetting the possible (yet maybe unlikely) event of these sequels being really good. :D

It will only be good if they bring a clone of the villain from the first film in. That guy was the best part.

Well you never know, he could be like only part of himself- there could be many other versions of him that they have to fight just like in Kingdom Hearts :D

Enzy, I don't think Colonel Miles Quaritch, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM, can do that. Unless he's like a Great Old One or something.

Only s(guitar riff) that could be freaking awesome if that were true!

Well that' s the thing, if the story is old as **** and everyone can see each plot "twist" coming from miles away then the difference between a hit or miss becomes rather flimsy. Visually a lot of things reminded me of Final Fantasy (amongst other things), and the direction was just as unoriginal as the story. I' m usually a sucker for this kind of movie but this one was a miss for me. It wasn' t awful, just ... meh.

The manga that I mentioned earlier, Gunnm, shares a lot of themes with Avatar and recycles just as many clichés, but it also adds SF themes to the mix (which Avatar could have done easily yet didn' t) and sure isn' t narrated in such a hammy fashion.
