I've Been 4Chan Pranked on My Phone (How to Prevent it From Happening to You)

Yes, my cell phone has become the source of several 4Chan users' 'lulz" supply. They know my cell phone number my full name and based on the area code, no doubt know my relative address. They've been prank calling me for the past 24 hours on a semi-frequent basis. I'm 99% certain it's a group of 4Chan users based on the content of the calls (I know it's not my friends because there are a variety of voices that I don't recognize, plus one even said they got my number through 4Chan), and I think I know how they got my number. There was a site that is currently down that allowed you to enter a phone number and the site claimed it would Rickroll (play a clip from Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" the person. I tried it on myself on April 2nd and I was disappointed when it didn't work. Yesterday, I received many "Unknown" calls soliciting bizarre products and just being stupid in general. The calls seem to have stopped, but knowing 4Chan, they'll be back.

I attached the audio of one of the voice messages on my phone from a 4Chan user(I edited out my name, which he also knows), there are several others (which vary in obscenity) that are just as or even more annoying. There are ways to prevent this from happening. 4Chan users have strong trends that stand out and they prey on not-so-experienced internet and computer users. If the site you're viewing has a lot to do with Rickrolling, be careful as Rickrolling originated on 4Chan and they love to use it. Never input any personal information into a site that you aren't completely sure about (like me). Be careful what you do on forums, namely 4Chan.org and even more so on the /b/ board there. If you do get your information discovered, tell a parent or if you're an adult, someone who can help.

Bottom line and moral of the story, use common sense (unlike me).

Thank you for posting about this. I saw a site like this the other day and, since i'm like super-cautious about anything on the internet, didn't give my number. But i was pretty sure that a lot of people would.

This is exactly why I don't like 4chan. Or any of the chans. :l

 

excuse me if this is common knowledge but what is 4chan.org about?

 

It's an image board ranging from cooking to hardcore hentai where you can instantly respond without registering (i.e. Anonymously, hence the 4Chan based group "Anonymous"). People on 4Chan however, are notorious for hacking and pranks which happened to me XD.

Sorry to say but you were sort of asking for something like this to happen. Well sometimes it takes something like this for people to learn.

 

That's just really dumb to do to someone.

 

Uhh, what. Not everyone at 4chan partakes in "we are legion" bullshit and asinine harassment, 4chan is a legitimately fun and interesting imageboard (forum, to use a more common word) to go to and have good discussions and some great laughs, just because a certain section there is the loudest of the bunch in doing immature/******ed acts, doesn't mean they represent everyone else that goes there.

 

Well, they do visit 4chan afterall, so that's a given.

I'll go ahead and quote my post that was made directly above yours that you didn't bother to read:

If you've never bothered to go to any of 4chan's decent sections and see the kinds of cool discussions and funny threads to partake in, you shouldn't judge the site at all based on ghost stories of how terrible the place is, if you go to the right sections where for the most part people are mature and cool guys, 4chan is a really fun imageboard (forum) to go to when you're bored and just want to have anonymous discussion.

In particular, /video games/, /comics and cartoons/, /anime & manga/, and /japan general/ are sections some people here could relate to.

 

Same things happened to me several months ago. I was in class when my phone was vibrating. I then checked after class to see someone unknown. Later when they called, they mistook me as Sushi Lovers Restaurant. -_- ........... that is not a mistake. They called me ten times before they stopped. The same number then came back saying if I was Tom somthing and then they hung up after I told them I was not him and then they called me 50 more times and then they stopped. I'm sure they'll be back for more from me.

 

That sucks, man. I hope they stop soon.
