Uh no. You can't tell how a book's going to be like by just looking at the cover.

    HEY. BE NICE.

Man some of these books look so nice.....if only I had a better memory of titles and if I bothered to read much nowadays....*sigh*....I had to force myself through Watership Down in middle school. It got more exciting towards the end.

I might have to check out that Handmaid's Tale, but I really have next to no free time for reading books. Even while I'm sitting here talking to you guys I'm doing work, alebeit really really slowly.
Three years ago I'd have devoured all the books in that chart in about two months and then come back screaming FEED ME I REQUIRE LITERATURE RAWR blaaaarg.

I will mention that it can drag at points, where you have no idea what exactly is happening. At least for me, I felt like I had only half the scene in my head, imagining it. Still the characters were good and the setting was very vivid when detailed enough. Very tense atmosphere and sci-fi society stuff.

I have heard lots of those books are indeed masterful for the genre, I wish that I cared enough to read more, few books grab me.
I'm trying to read Journey to the West at the moment but it has been unfortunately been a bit slow for the first 10 chapters, but interesting and fantastical. Monkey, Sage Equal of Heaven!

hmm, let me think of my reaction about The Scarlet Letter. I see cover, I think "this is going to be boring", I read, I'm right. That's all for todays lesson

I think I have half of these books and have read the majority at least once.

Oh hey, A Clockwork Orange. I should read that book again sometime soon.

Imagine that. You are right about that, so you can't possibly be wrong about others. Let's say that you see a book in the store, see the cover as boring and do not read it. And then you go to school, see The Scarlet Letter's cover as boring and read it because you have to. Because it was actually boring, that other book must have been too. I guess a picture really is worth a thousand words, right? And never mind about the alternate covers for each version and each country. If I don't like the picture next to a story, the story is going to suck. After all, if you can't draw, you can't write.

    Come again.

No, I see a book that looks boring, so I don't read it. I see another book that looks boring, have to read it, and it is boring. It's coincedence for that one. But it's like my sense of smell with food. I've never found a book that I liked because of the cover, same as when I smell a horrible smell from food, I end up not liking the food. Although, a part of your taste comes from your sense of smell.

In other words, you have never read any books that you did not have to, because you both judge books by their covers (common taboo, a phrase against it) and have never liked a book based on its cover.

    Joy.

Perhaps you did not read what I said thoroughly enough. A cover has almost nothing to do with a book on principal (difference of medium), and authors do not make their own covers, not usually. Is that clear enough for you?

did you also read the part before where I said I look up synopsis of books? Jeez. And I most certainly can judge a book by its cover. Everyone is entitled to their own way of choosing what they want to read.

Why is it that every time one of you posts in a thread, you start an argument?

Then again, it's kinda like asking why is it that a lot of the time, Makaze and I sexualize a thread. Hmm . . .

Not of choosing whether something is or is not boring. You can decide whether or not you will read something, but not whether or not it is 'the kind of thing you would like to read'. You have no idea what kind of thing it is until you have read it. The same with movies, trailers are not good to go by unless something is blatantly (ironically) terrible and thus not worth watching because it is not only boring but disgusting. You cannot give a review or even an opinion on something you have not read. You can hate on the fandom of Twilight, but until you have read the whole book, do not talk to me about the content of it.

In other words, you just won't read most of these books. That does not entitle you to post in my thread and say what kind of books they are. It entitles you to not read them. Have fun doing nothing instead of judging these books based on covers in my thread.
