People used to talk about how bold and empowering this song is, before everyone got sick of it
But it's a throne of lies

"The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside"
There is no wind to be heard

"Conceal don't feel, don't let them know"
    "Well now they know"
    "Let it go"
Except she doesn't end up letting it go. The ultimate solution to the problem is for her to never feel anger, fear, frustration, or anxiety, only love and happiness. In other words, in order to prevent the events of the movie happening again she still has to conceal, not feel

"I don't care what they're going to say"
Cares about what everyone says when they actually show up and say it

    "Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway"
According to the scene right after this Elsa doesn't know she caused a perma-winter

"The fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all"
Later that same day her fears all get to her

"No right no wrong, no rules for me, I'm free"
Except for never interacting with human society ever again, that kinda limits her freedom

"I am one with the wind and sky"
    No you're not

    "You'll never see me cry"
What happened to getting over the whole conceal don't feel thing?

    "Here I stand
    And here I'll stay"
Gets taken away later that night

    "I'm never going back"
    Goes back

"The past is in the past"
Still cares when confronted by the past

It just seems funny that this is used as such an empowering song in the media and such, and yet it's basically just a list of dramatic irony in song form

    I can't
My niece is obsessed with the movie, every time she comes over I have to watch it with her, and she does little performances where she sings the songs and hops around
I have nothing left to do but nitpick at this point

Because the music is too loud. There's clearly a lot of wind blowing.

She thinks she's letting it go. In the end she learns to let go of her anxieties and just be happy with what she has, but for now she's young and stupid just like anyone else has been and thinks that simply not thinking about her problems will make them go away.

So what, you've never thought you'd react to something one way and then reacted a different way when it actually happened?

She's in the middle of a ****ing snowstorm during the song.

    And it's all very unexpected.

But cutting of all contact with other people means no laws or social conventions to follow. It's a whole lot freer than living near other people.

It's called a metaphor, smart guy. For what, I haven't got a clue. But it's clearly a metaphor for something.

She thinks she'll always be that happy.

Because of an awful mistake that she made.

To fix the awful mistake that she made.

Because she never intended to hurt the people from her past.

What really gets me is when Anna tells Elsa of the "eternal winter, everywhere" that's lasted the course of a night and so far is only known to span the distance between their city and the mountain, which can't be too far, seeing as how Anna practically walked there and back in a day. Was there an "eternal" winter in the Southern Isles that night? I doubt it.

    That's why it's popular.

Early scripts for Frozen had a gap of at least two months between Elsa leaving Arendelle and Anna going to find her, the "eternal winter" lasting that entire time. Also, "eternal winter" sounds more dramatic and has higher stakes.

Early scripts also had Elsa as a villain, with Let It Go acting as her villain song.

...I like the song. I have no problems with it.

my problem is that it's overplayed and I'm getting annoyed by it. I think it is up there with the best disney songs but... god, I just wanna listen to Idina Menzel sing it sometimes, not everyone singing along with it.

    ^^ This.

Your constant need to complain about Frozen only extends the desire to talk about Frozen and not letting the fandom chill. I like Frozen, but I'm not obsessed with it. End of story. People are only still talking about it because you keep bringing it up with things like this.

I still like the song, but it does totally feel out of place with the film's current script. It seems like it was supposed to be closer to the end of the film.

    This got me though

I agree, Elsa technically wasn't letting it go (at that point)...and the pacing of the film is pretty horrid...

lol, I'm actually the opposite. It's sort of the same issue with "Defying Gravity," where she only seems to sing in two volumes: really super duper belty screaming loud and wow so quiet and dramatic.

This is especially prominent when she sings live though.

But yeah, it's a good song stand alone, only in the context of the movie does it kinda lose its impact.
