But that's my opinion. I never knew that clone pets existed and some people sell them. It's disgusting and violation of the laws of nature. To understand what i' m talking about look at this Genpets

I myself am perfectly fine with biotechnology such as this. I don't see anything particularly wrong with genetic enhancement, especially in animals and foods, so I couldn't care less.

Though I will admit they look disgusting. And WTF at this picture from there website? :\

Dude, they even have coffee mugs with that hideous creature...

It looks disgusting, but technically there's nothing wrong with it. Except, of course, the fact that they put something alive in a box.

It can't be alive...doesn't it need to breathe?

I'd never seen this before. It's so stupid and fake. Who would buy it and be happy with it?

Well in the site it says they mix DNA from different animals. I don't like it.

I think it's supposed to come out of the packaging at some point, but I'm more or less confused with this. Do they ever mature past this infant stage? I'm curious to know if they have an adult specimen of this creature.

I only infer this because looking at the website 'adventurous' is listed as a personality trait. I don't think something can be very adventurous is plastic restraints.

Now that I look at the site more, I think I see what you mean. It looks a little too human for my comfort...and how could you SLEEP knowing that thing was in your house?

To be honest, though, I want to see one awake and moving around. It's kinda interesting.

It says that one it's awake it will automatically imprint on you and will be able to move around and the like.

And they apparently have set death dates. That's so wrong.

You should read the " meet the Genpets " section. It explains many things.

In all honesty, I'm completely fine with it. Some of the things they can possibly do with genetics are scary, yet rewarding. In the end this will only bring good benefits to many species of animals and humans alike. Like...say for example a species is dying out due to global warming, human can genetically alter the next generation of that species to survive in rough conditions, the way we do with some plants and pesticides.

It is rather grotesque if you ask me, though it's research will become beneficial for other things as Cin said.

I just read the site and saw this:

"Read National Geographic's site for more information on human animal hybrids"

I assume this means they are, in fact, throwing human DNA into this genetic salad.

    May i?

That's sure something good but what about mutations? Changing an animals DNA it would cause many problems that could lead to death instead of saving a life.

You've got to be kidding me...there's human in that thing? Well, that changes everything...I don't know if I consider it "right" now that I know that human DNA is mixed in.

I was hoping it was an ape of some sort.

Well humans are apes. Albeit a highly intelligent class of them.

But I'm sort of on the fence with this issue after reading the rest of the posts. I can see where Cin is coming from with the idea of genetic engineering to make a species more resistant to environmental change.

Where I don't agree is tampering with the course of nature. The fact these 'pets' have pre-determined 'death dates' is no different than playing God {or whoever is up there.} I also don't agree that the 'pet' imprints on the person out of the box.

When baby animals imprint on humans, they think that they are human. And this is highly discouraged.

Wait a minute... That's impossible. You can't mix two animals of different genii (the first part of a scientific name, like: HOMO sapiens). Wouldn't that create several horrible mutations? Would it even work? Is it fertile? Er, I can answer that question. No, its not fertile. Hybrids are never fertile.

This seems rather fake. I've seen something like it...

I'd be traumatised if I unwrapped one of those grotesque creatures on Christmas day.

I'm REALLY not in the mood to do much reading so I didn't read about it but what did they do the the poor things? Thats just wrong.

There was a program on called Animal Farm, and they had things like featherless chickens, cows turned into anit-body factories, goats that produce spider silk instead of milk, pigs that glow in the dark and that can digest phosporus and they cloned a championship winning horse for the owner.

As with a lot of science it is very useful but a line has to be drawn somewhere, because somethings just shouldn't be meddled with. But I'm not going to comment on where that line should be drawn, we'll just have to wait and see.

I really really disagree with this whole concept!

I think nature should be left to do what it does best, mixing and messing with genetics like this is wrong.

True working with genes and playing with genetics may be beneficial but I do not see how this beneftits anyone. Pre-determined death dates? Sorry but things like that I just find disturbing. Instead of creating these weird things (things is all they can be described as) surely they would be better off actually looking into things that could help or benefit the world?
