I mean I know it isn't as obvious Sora and Master Xehanort or Sora and Vanitas but after thinking about it they are quite similar I mean they both have:
    • Similar appearances
    • Both of them are keyblade wielders.
    • Both of them were born on Destiny Islands.
    • They both considered Destiny Islands a prison.
    • Both of them are capable of using darkness to their advantage.
    • Similar battle stances
    • Both of them were KH bosses.
I mean Riku doesn't have too many foils besides Repliku and Sora but YX is a pretty big one.

What do you mean by counterpart? If you meant that he's Riku's equivalent in the organization it's possible seeing as how they've clashed, and there's something similar to how Riku(when he wasn't acting like Sora's friend) and YX talked KHI and DDD respectively.

No, I mean like Mario and Wario, Luigi and Waluigi, Squall and Seifer. In literary terms his foil, a character who is drastically different or really similar with a key difference ( or a mixture of both) from another character when compared to each other.

Yeah, I don't understand those analogies. Do you mean to say that they went through similar situations in their respective lives?

Somewhat. I mean Young Xehanort represents what Riku could have become if he had given into the darkness. You know his foil or evil counterpart.

If that's the case, then I don't see why not. Minus the time travelling, Riku could be YX if he did give into the darkness.

Exactly!! I mean if you don't include the time traveling aspect both Young Xehanort and are really not so different when you break it down. However, I could be forgetting some more characteristics they might share.

Does the way they pop up in different worlds in KH1 and DDD count?

Ansem SoD has ben Riku's foil since CoM
But yeah, there are lot o intentional parallels between Xehanort and Riku. Riku, Repliku, Xehanort, YMX and Vanitas all use slight variations of the same battle stance, and I'd imagien Xehanort's naturally grey hair wasn't an accident.
However, what this suggests to me is that Riku was influenced by Xehanort, more than anything. When someone if possessed by Xehanort their hair goes grey, when Vanitas possessed Ventus, Ventus took on Vanitas' stance. And in weird instances like Terranort, Xehanort has been seen to influence the outlook of a person.

Does this mean he could have influenced Riku's growth squrt in KH2 ?!
Now that I think about it that could count. I mean they both show up to antagonize the protagonist of the game multiple times be it through eerie words or just sending a creature towards them. In my book it counts.
