are you sure it's one child? i coudl've sworn it was two. it DOES sound unfair but at least they are trying SOMETHING to solve the problem? but in the point of view of the people who actually live there it might not be a big deal to them. we don't know if it is or not.

Uhh, where in that post am I not calm? I don't recall using any context clues to imply anger or hostility, I simply asked a question, if he's going to say that somehow not having multiple children is a problem, then I'd like to know what that is.

As explained earlier, the government does not forcibly remove children from homes, as far as I know, the "limit" on Childbirth in China is an advisory from the Government to be aware of the overpopulation issues the country faces, and to think responsibly when considering children.

A lot of people wants a lot of things, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be advised against them, it's part of thinking beyond just yourself and what you want, and doing smaller things among a large group of people could have a greater positive outcome for everyone.

Russia has something similar in place, to the opposite effect. Russia's population growth on a yearly basis is actually shrinking, there are less Russian citizens alive year by year, so the Russian government has campaigns advising citizens to have families. I've heard that to one extent the government would give money to families of newborns to help raise healthy children.

Context really does get subjective when it's just typed communication. it's probably based on prior debates, posts, etc. This post might contribute to the perception further, as you appear defensive.

How is that post overly-defensive? Someone said I should calm down, and I asked why they think I was not calm, because it's not like I was using all caps or exclamation points. Honestly, you guys must encounter people who throw hissy fits in debates all the time if you read every post as angry or defensive...I mean, I read every post as if it were a person speaking calmly, unless there's actual context clues given to implicate sarcasm, yelling, anger, etc.

I only said "appears defensive". Whether cues are present or not there's still an ambiguous aspect to a post.

But yes, back to the topic.

oh according to Wikipedia, it IS indeed one child per family. there are more lenient yes, they don't go too far to enforce the rule, they're not going to kill the child or take them away, however there is a fine for breaking that law. they're actually going to reconsider that law.

i dunno, when i read it, i got the impression you weren't. it looked like you were being sarcastic/offensive, especially at the last sentence

Than that impression would be incorrect?

Regardless of ambiguities when forum posting, there are ways to imply feelings through context clues in wording, punctuation, capitalization, bolded/underlined/italic words, etc..so if a person is not using such measures to imply anger, then are you not simply assuming a post was made with a hostile intent?

Someone said it was simply because of experience to assume that someone is angry, then I find that pretty sad that you guys often have people throw fits in their very first posts of a thread. It seems rather unfair to the poster to read their post from the start assuming they're angry about something, don't we all know what happens when you assume?

Regarding the last comment, I just found it ironic that someone would say "As a Catholic I find there isn't any excuse for killing!", when the Catholic religion is one of the most blood-soaked faiths, with several Crusades and instances of human slaughter under it's belt in the name of God.

I dunno, just found that funny. Maybe I should have used XD or lololol ¯\(o.O)/¯

Why does America need to intervene with China? The soviet communism was something that everyone seems to hate, admittedly, but no one seems to even know why they're supposed to hate communism. China is one of the few countries to adapt a communist system and actually make it work, and the country has prospered because of it. Why does big-bad America suddenly need to mess that up? For what reason?

America can't even win a war in the middle east, what makes you think it can tackle China? China's active military force is the size of the entire American population. There is 1 Chinese soldier for every man, woman, and child in America. Not to mention that China has one of the largest stock of economic resources on the planet at it's disposal.

America is in debt to the Chinese government for all of the money they loan us, and America gets the majority of it's resources from China, if we were to intervene with China those resources would be cut off and America's economy would pretty much crash in the resulting conflict. So you're right, an Empire would fall; the American Empire.

oh i realized i never answered the question. i would say it is fair, and it's in their rights to make this law. one thing to clarify, no one is getting killed or being forced to give up a child. if a family does have more than one child they have to pay a fine for every child extra. after doing some research, i couldn't find any consistent value on the exact charge so i dont' know how much you have to pay. anyways, it's pretty fair, i mean they dont' really have a choice becuz if they don't do this it might get way out of control (if it isn't already right now). heck, America can learn alot of things from other countries.

hmmm, i got that information from wikipedia, according to that site, they have to pay a hefty fine but no one is forced to give up a child but since your friend actually lives there, i would think that is more credible information. but i'm SURE they don't kill the child, becuz that's pretty inhumane and there would be like PAGES of information elaborating on that if that part about the killing was indeed true. and it tho on wikipedia, they DO say that it is more heavily inforced in urban areas than in suburban areas or country land.

While that may be true it won't even be remotely easy-- there's a reason why everything is made in China. And what business would the US have in taking down China anyway? China is a valuable trade investment for any country. While communism certainly isn't a way of life that is familiar to North Americans it's the way of life in China. As a country you don't have to like it, but you have to tolerate it since you have no say in the matter.

I have a friend who says he pees solid gold, but that doesn't mean it happens.

    Which is pretty much what I said a few posts back. >_>;;

China doesn't have a problem with population. It's the government's lack of response to changes that gets them in this position. I can tell you stories of what Communists do behind the scenes, and why it seems like people go hungry and can't afford to have more than one child.
The child is not taken away or killed.
If the child was taken away, I might not be in America right now. If the child was killed, I wouldn't be alive at the moment.

And people say things, even though the "facts" they say aren't true. A few of my best friends live in China, and not once have they said anything about their sisters and brothers being taken away.
I'd also like to bring up the point that Chinese families are generally large. That doesn't happen unless you have more than one child.
