If there is a talent show at a Christian school and about 20 kids signup. They all perform well. The results come back and ONLY the CHRISTIAN performances were chosen for winners. One girl even was awarded TWO prizes.

This happened to me. I sang a song (Within Temptaion Hand of Sorrow) and I hit all of the notes correctly. I lost because it wasn't a christian song though. There was a comedy act that was hilarious but it lost because it wasn't christian

No, that is absolutely not fair. It's a talent show. You're suppossed to show your talent, not your Christianity. Everyone performing should have an equal chance at winning. The judges are suppossed to choose who performs the best. Not who shows the best Christain spirit. 'nuff said.

That is serious Bull. It was a talent contest! If they wanted to do a christianity contest, they would have held it at church.

It's really hilarious that talent is completely judged by the depth and implementation of a belief. XD Especially in a talent show.

But yeah, that seems entirely prejudice and I would definitely find out what the hell is going on with that.

That is a really hard song to sing. That is very unfair. Destiny said it loud and clear. It's supposed to be a contest for talent, not religion. Somebody should report that to the school board.

    Yay, I made a good point! =D

lol aaaannnyways... I suggest you go talk to whoever was running the talent show about that. If they wanted to pick Christain related talents, then they should just make a "Christain Talent Contest" or something like that... But it wasn't. It was simpily a pure talent contest, and that song is so difficult... I have no idea how you sing, so I can't really say if you should have won or not, but you should've at least had a better chance... And they didn't tell you when you signed up? Bull. They should tell students these types of things BEFORE the show... -_-

wow , thats wrong , im christian , and just because i am , im not gonna defend their actions

it was outright wrong , if they wanted christianity , to be one of the requisites , you think they would point it out.

it is a christian school , but people who arent still attend it.

its not fair. and that also happens the other way around too.

    this is depressing

    :nono:

Wow... this depresses me. Where is the world going to? This is absolutely SAD and just plain depressing. This kind of controversy in a TALENT show. . .

IT'S A TALENT SHOW for goodness sake! T_T

That is just plain unfair and load of bullcrap. It's supposed to be a competition about talent, not how CHRISTIAN you are. People are going crazy with religious stuff these days. The competition was rigged! Why the heck would anyone do that? This type of controversies should not be done in public competition! Gah!

My gosh, this is actually ticking me off A LOT, more than I actually should be. >_<

As a talent show it should be judged on pure talent, not on how religious your act was. Sadly discrimination and bias occur in all walks of life and this is a really bad example. It shouldn't matter whether the act is particularly Christian or not, it should be on how good the act is.

Fortunately not all Christian groups are like this. I act in a church hall drama group even though I do not attend their church and am not particularly religious. They like the fact I have a sense of humour, get on with people and am prepared to act and sing (badly).

No matter how open and non-judgemental things are supposed to be bias based on age, race and religion occur. It's best to just to remember that there are people in the world that do not see things this way.

Well, it sucks but if it is a Christian event, I guess it gives them the right to choose only Christian things as the winners. =:/ Maybe you should try out some non-religious talent show instead. Sometimes they have talent shows in the summer that people can do such as at fair events. The people who judge a specific show of a sort of genre are going to be more biased to that genre they want to see. You probably are right and did great with the song. Within Temptation is an excellent group and if you did the notes and all right, well that in itself merits some reward. The lead singer is just great. Seriously, though, check out for another talent show of some sort that doesn't fall under 'Christian' show and do the song again. I bet you'd get a different reaction.

Well, why it is very unfair. It really depends on what they were looking for, if it was stated as a religious event then I guess that it would all make sense. But if it was promoted solely as a talent show then it is showing completely hippocracy to what christian values stand for, which I personally see alot of times, that we except everyone but look down on those who aren't with us, but I digress. Now yes it sucks but its all within context of the event.

well... I guess you have to take my word for it. I was going to record the show but for privacy reasons unfortunantley I couldn't.

I can remember most of the wining acts

    Singing:

You lift me up - runner up

Original Christian song - first place + grand prize

    Dancing:

    Who's that girl - 1st place

    Skits:

    Gravity - 1st place

    Musical Instruments:

    Drums - 1st place

I'm pretty sure that's all of them. Yep they only gave out first places because only 20 kids signed up.

I was pretty ticked because one of the people was awarded two prizes and they could have given one of them to someone else in the singing category.

They just said it was a talent show. Any act could enter. Everyone had to audition and I think everyone made it.

When I was in high school, they gave ribbons to every entry in the show, and they didn't tell anybody that their performance was not as good as another's, or they didn't put anybody higher than another person. If they don't treat you fairly because it's not particular to a certain religion is ignorant.

This is bad and reminds me of our Senior Project presenations. I got points marked off because I didn't research how the Catholic Church regards Ghosts. Although I did go a fair deal into exorcisms and stated that depending on the denomination, that it's a fairly long process to get one. But it was only the difference between an A and a B. I gave the same(nearly) presentation in my Speech class at college and I got an A on it.

But I'm not all that surprised this would happen. Though if they only wanted Christian acts...maybe they should have said that when the talent show was announced and not come off as biased?

It's a talent show. Tell them if it was a christian talent show then they wouldn't have screwed up with the acts. That is totally not fair!
