OK. I am lucky enough to have gone to school before all this dress-code stuff. I think it does pose a problem with some students, but due to the moral standards these schools have to keep, they impliment these dress-codes in order to keep there students looking "decent".

    yes it is

THE 5 REASONS WHY UNIFORMS ARE HOT~

    1. They make you look smart
    2. Some items are for safety reasons... where spaghetti straps in AUS... SUNBURN, shoes.. trip, burn or chop it off with a saw. which would you like today?
    3. Idetification... lets say you get shot on the street, it's actually easier to find out who you are if you where the uniform of the school you go to
    4. Naughtiness... Waggers, school skippers.. the police find you and send you to school
    5. If the Principal didn't make you wear it the P&C wouldn't be happy DX

I like dress codes because that way I don't have to every girl's nasty butt in a one inch skirt. Although my school is so racist and scared of minority group, they don't care to bother with them, which is downright disgusting when you see all those skanks. >|

Plus dress code get you ready for having a real job someday, where you have to look nice or where uniforms and such.

they just do a dresscode so nobody feels inferior by clothing styles and whatever. Personally i like expressing myself by dressing differently, and don't really wanna look the same as everyone else. It makes me feel like a clone.

Well, it is sorta distracting to guys if a girl walks in with her boobs all hanging out. They're not gonna learn anything; they'll just be staring at her boobs the whole time. So, in a way, yes it is important. Some of the stuff they have is stupid though. For example, in my school, we can't wear shorts at all except for friday's because it would be "unprofessional" to wear them. Another thing is we can't wear sleeveless shirts. I mean this stuff is just plain ridiculous. As long as you don't have your goods all out there, I think that you should be able to wear what you want.

I think dress code was designed to annoy me.
Some clothing I think shouldn't be allowed in schools(tube tops, short short shorts, etc.), but really, at my school we have to wear:
A polo shirt(solid colour or stripes), and it can't say anything on it(so we can't just walk in with Abercrombie, or Aeropostale printed across our chest), or a Spirit Shirt, khaki pants(we only get to wear jeans on Fridays IF were good), and no open toed shoes.
And 2 years ago when my brother was in 6th grade, they couldn't wear striped polos, but we can now.
    Tell me that's ******ed.

no i dont agree with dress codes but i'll come out and say why it is applied and a reason its not so bad. most schools that applie it are charter schools beacaus they ar ove achieving schools and a dress code is said to discourage apperence based distractions. but i have gone to both uniform and public schools and found the unifor can be a good thing. at my school now every ones looking the same. whereing the same brand. branching into groups where they "fit in". but i talk to everyone out there and half them dont have any similar qualitys to theyre cliqu. when i ask how they got to be in that group i always begins with clothes. this disapointed me beacause theyre all good kids beyond what theyre groups are but because thats theyre "uniform" group they have to blend in and act like them. on the contrary at uniform schools people are alot more free (whether those of you with uniforms realize it or not) people were in theyre groups by what kind of peole they were. they didnt have to live up to the reputation of theyre clothing, and i realy saw some uniqe personalitys that dimmed when that school became a uniforme free school by popular demand of the community. so ive whatched the change and know all the sacrafices we make to where the cloths that make us "cool".

It's there for a reason. I don't think the teachers care.
I think students get into stupid fights and arguments about certain types of clothing.

It's there to create a more learning atmosphere but it doesn't help me. All I concentrate on is my discomfort in the uniform.

    i think that the dress is a good idea.reasons why;
1.to prevent people from tearing down some else for what they wear. i.e.i have way better clothes than you.all your stuff is cheap crap,i've got the best stuff.
2.the dress code also prevents from gangs wearing there colors in school which may cause conflict between rivial gangs.(that's if you have gangs in your school)
3.with the dress code, people can't wear shirts and other stuff and has stuff writen on it.
4.prevents distractions of the oppisite sex cause of showing to much while learning in class.
so i think that the schools have the right to inforce a dress code.

Yeah, I don't see the point in a dress code. I moved from Cali to Utah recently and this is my first school with a uniform. It causes so much more fuss to have a uniform that to not have one. I've gone my whole life without one and I'm one of the smartest people in most of my classes here. The uniform just causes students to were it differently and get in trouble with the dress code. Not to mention that they're uncomfortable and so generic looking. I think that students can get along just fine without a uniform. Just because someone is wearing a T-shirt that someone else likes doesn't mean that they're going to spend the whole class period talking about it. I don't see why teachers are always saying that uniforms will focus our attention more compared to without a uniform.

I think that the uniform is a way to say that everyone is equal, I'm not better than you, I'm not richer than you, etc.
