I'd say yes. Some stuff us girls wear can make men's hormones go crazy...
And we don't need gang clothes/symbols being shown off in the hallways. Tattoos and piercings can be covered, because some are innappropriate. I don't want to see girls walking around in shirts with their boobs sticking out either, or guys wearing their pants around their knees. Rules are here for a reason.

I think there okay, the reason why they are there is because some people are able to work with it, and kids dont need to worry for appereance..

But i wear it because im in Privite School

I think they do have a purpose. Image is important in many academic cases, and uniforms tend to do a good job with managing that. Even though on a singular level, some people think they look awkward by themselves, the point is looking good at a whole.

I had to wear a horrid uniform for performances when I was in concert choir. I hated it, my friends hated it, anyone who wore it hated it. But at the end of the day when we are all lined up on the stands, the group looks picture perfect.

Uniforms are completely unneeded. Dress codes, does anyone really look at them?
    Here's a good dress code:

Don't expose yourself or wear stuff with innapropriate stuff on it to school. Exept for that, just wear whatever you want.

I think dress codes suck because kids aren't able to show their individuality by wearing what they want, but I do agree there should at least be a limit to what can be worn to school.

And btw, all girls don't dress ****ty =/
Personally, I would rather go to school in a hoodie and sweat pants than wearing the stupid uniform I have to wear everyday.

some schools do dress code for safety. Lets say a child got lost or something, the child can ID'd by the uniform. Well, thats what my school says.

In the twenty-first century, nobody needs or wants a dress code.
Some public schools around here let people get away with not always wearing the uniform, but my school this year and my new one next year don't even allow denim.
On a news feature uniforms were described as a way to prepare us for business and uniforms in later life. Seriously, we don't need training to wear clothes...
I'm sick of uniforms, and since everything is grey except a white shirt at my new school for year 11 I'm even more against them.

idk, I think that in a sense they do matter. I mean, could you picture if the school was walken around with chicks that were barely anything! that would be.........*stops and begins to drool, then snaps back to normal*. Well point being is that there are certain things that people really shouldn't be wearing, like gang signs and stuff I guess. and there ARE certain clothes which no one really wants to see.

In my oppinion though, the school HAS taken things too far with the school dress code. Problem is though is that we don't really have a say in it. I already had a conversation about a debate which brings up this topic in my English Honors class, and apparently, it doesn't really matter to us since apparently it matters what the tax payers think since they are the ones that are paying the stupid taxes >.>
in other words no one actually gives a **** about our oppinion, just what the majority of the tax payers can agree on.....

o_o I have that in my school.

I personally don't find anything wrong with uniforms.I used to wear them in middle school and I hated it but now I don't care. But then again putting strict school dress codes is still annoying.People wear what they want to wear as to show individuality.I don't wear uniforms in my school but I actually like the dress code that they have.I don't think its too strict. In my middle school, there would be people that wouldn't wear uniform and yet still get away with it.While there were others that got caught pretty quick. But in my high school,I don't see a bunch of girls showing themselves off but I do see guys that need to pull their pants up,seriously. So I'm okay with or without a school uniform.

people get horny, and if a guy sees a girl wearing a spaghetti strap top, he might try to pull off the straps or something.

    come on, be logical?

I don't like uniforms. It doesn't give kids the chance to wear what they want and show who they are. I think kids should be able to wear what they want to a certain extent.

You do go to school to learn and well, that is why people should wear appropriate clothing to learn in. There is way too much focus often on wearing the 'coolest' thing, sexiest most obnoxious thing, or the brand clothes etc that brag to others about how lucky or wealthy your family is etc. Also, some kids use clothing to declare what gangs they are affiliated in and some fights have erupted by someone ignorantly doing something such as putting red laces in their boots. Seriously..it sucks.

I do not really care if there are uniforms at school or not. However, school gets confusing when suddenly you find yourself in competition with others because they wear things to stir up the crowd. Spaghetti straps aren't allowed for a reason. Wearing clothes that show your pits, too short of shorts that reveal stuff, etc. It's just not needed. You shouldn't in school to me have to express individuality so much that it basically makes people have competitions with each other and forces the school board to make decisions on what is appropriate or not. It wastes everyone's time and it also makes a lot of kids bother parents, forcing them to dig in their pockets to ensure their kids are competitive with the latest fashions etc in an area where we should be learning. There are quite a few parents who go broke because of trying to help their children to fit in because being cool is so much more important than education.

So in a way, I think if kids don't push the issue and realize that what others wear isn't necessarily what they should, if they can understand and not become brats over needing the latest brand fashion, and if they aren't all about showing off their bodies in school, I see nothing wrong with wearing what is comfortable and well, expresses the person. However, if they can't do this, I have no problem with uniforms either. In college we don't wear uniforms and we are fine with the dress codes which are not as extensive as they are in school. Mainly, people don't push things to be lewd or obnoxious while being free to express themselves. In high school, we always had people pushing the lines of the dress code so it always became worse. It sucked. So yes, I feel dress codes in themselves are important but only because there are those few that must force issues and people have to decide what is right or not. If students wouldn't make clothes at school more important than learning, the school board wouldn't either.

I'd say no, because, the point is, no one wants to wear uniforms. People have their own style and nature of their own style. *sighs* It's more likely that most people will like uniforms, but when you're older, you'll at least have to wear one almost everyday, it just makes no sence to make people wear one in school.

    >.> *transfers to your old uniformed school* >3 xD

Seriously, things like that are only for girls, not guys, that's why guys have their own potential in having to accessorize to finalize! xD

Nope. There's a dress code at our school, and people get by with breaking it all the time.

No because most of the uniforms are ugly and I've always wanted to go to school shirtless for some reason.

Eh, there really isn't that much difference in a dress code and non-dress code. All the reasons it's implemented might be positive, but that creates equal numbers of problems with the students. They are still divisionary (perhaps more, because now it is mind they need to rely on).

But, hey, sometimes those uniforms are pretty spiffy. Wouldn't mind trying out a school like that in my lifetime. :]

They are quite important. Not majorly, life-or-death important, but important nonetheless.

First of all, they teach kids to dress responsibly later in life. If you show up for a job interview in spaghetti straps or with pants dragging around your ankles, chances are you will not get that job. But if that's what you've been wearing for years, then it will take you a bit to change your style (especially if you're obsessed with having the latest fashion of clothing).

Second, school is a place for learning. Wearing revealing or obscene clothing will distract students from the real purpose of school, which is to learn new things. Students are more likely to be watching the girl next to them who's wearing approximately10 inches of clothing than paying attention to what they're supposed to be writing down or studying.

Third, requiring all students to wear the same clothes eliminates all the "I can't believe she's wearing that!" crap. These days (ESPECIALLY in middle schools) kids focus more on what other kids are wearing than what they're supposed to be learning in class. It refocuses the students and takes off the pressure of always needing to have the absolute latest style of clothing.

So, yes, they're important. The students themselves may not like them, but that's completely irrelevant to whether the uniforms are useful or not.
