Well, you see, they say that Halloween and the month of October is supposed to be scary and unlucky, but what if it were really true? Like, in my school, there was this one kid who lost his little brother because of kidney failure, another kid's father died (I forgot why), another kid's uncle died because of cancer and two years ago, my mother passed away of breast cancer on October 17. But what's so weird about this? All of this happened in the month of October.

So, what are your opinions on this?

Exactly, the human mind evolved to find patterns in its surrounding environment. The major problem is that we assume that a group of effects have to have a common cause, when really it is just coincidence.

I know that October 31st is meant to be the night of the dead (apparently thats scary) but since when is October unlucky? isn't that supossed to be Friday the 13th? (p.s. rehtorical questions)

Friday the 13th is considered unlucky because of the connection with the massacre of the Knights Templar by the Catholic Church. The order went out (kinda like Order 66 from Star Wars lol) and the entire organisation was virtually wiped out.

Agreed. It's all just a coincidence.

I've read a lot about this topic before actually. It's due to the opinion of some people and to what they have experienced and shared-being passed on from one person to another, and now it's everywhere x_x- that October has been called an "unlucky" month. [mostly cause of Oct. 31st, as Fayt-Harkwind has mentioned it being the day of the dead.]

In other words... it's all in the mind.

They say that October 31 represents all Hollows Eve where people would carve jackolaterns to respresent bond fires to ward off evil spirits and that others dressed up in costumes so the evil spirits can't recogonize them. Once midnight stuck, it was called all Hollows Day where the evil spirits returned back to whence they came. So don't be surprised that this Friday on Halloween you experience the super natural that night and be sure to not visit any grave yards either.

Halloween isn't normally unlucky for me at all. In fact last year I ended up going out with a really cool girl on Halloween night. This year I'm kinda doing the same thing.

So it isn't ever really unlucky for me. It almost brings me closer to people. =) I'd be willing to say, in fact, this is pointless superstition.

A lot of bad stuff has happened this month that's for sure, but it's all just a coincidence. Bad things happen nearly every month, some things are just more major.

It doesn't make a difference, it's just a nice thing to be able to place the blame of all of it on something. lol

I've never actually heard of October being an unlucky month, nor Halloween. And in my case, I like this month and it's usually rather lucky :3

The reason people dressed up originally was to scare away bad spirits. I guess it's kinda unlucky.

I don't think it is, just a month for everyone to be something cool and/or scary..I don't think the month or the holiday Halloween is haunted or unlucky,no.
