Are Square trying to keep Sora young? You know, get the most from his 14 year old memories, as they can?

    I mean, here are a few examples;

    Kingdom Hearts(obviously a 14 year old)
KH: COM/ RE: COM(14 year old again)
KH: Days(You can unlock 14 year old sora to play as)
    KH2(15 year old)
KH: Coded/Re:Coded(You play as a 14 year old sora)
KH: Birth by sleep(Sora is a child)
KH: DDD(haven't played, but he looks 14 to me)

What do you think? They've only made sora a 15 year old once, and all the times after that, he isn't.
Or is it just me imagining things?

KH3's synopsis describes Sora as being "mature." I sure hope they mean that he's finally older. I'm getting tired of 14 year old Sora.

It may be easier for them to make a younger Sora on handheld devices, but i doubt that would be the reason.

On BBS, CoM and Days it was physically impossible for him to be significantly older than his KH1 self, Coded was about his KH1 adventures's records on the journal, 3D had spoilery reasons, but while he looks like his young version, he's still his KH2/post-KH2 self.
So, with the exception of 3D, there was no way we could have his 15 years old self on those games.

Well he hasn't really gotten a chance to get older. BBS was a prequel, Coded was about Data-Sora, days took place before kh2 while Sora was sleeping etc. They probably just haven't had an opening to age him properly before since one thing has happened after another. With KH3 he's supposed to be more "mature" which may include age or may just be his attitude.

BbS is impossible since it's a prequel to KHI. Chain of Memories is set immediately after KHI. Days is set after Sora is turned into a Heartless, and ends where KHII begins. Coded is set on Jiminy's Journal, during Sora's KHI adventure. DDD is set after KHII, he may have look 14 years old in the game (Even though he's like 16 in DDD) due to a spoilery reason, but he still acts as his KHII self. But since it was said that KHIII will feature a more mature Sora, I don't see why he wouldn't get older as well.

in DDD it was a direct story line ending right from KH2. and i thought i read somwhere that Sora and Riku were both meant to be older, which is clear based on the first 15 mins of the game & the last 20 mins of the game. but Im sure that Sora has indeed aged for KH3.

In KH3D Sora is 16 in the real world, and 14 in the dream worlds. So I'm assuming we will see a 17 year old Sora in Kingdom Hearts 3. If thats true, then damn that makes Riku 19.

Hmm, I believe that she's the same age as Sora, so she will also be 17.

Out of anything, it is more a plot necessity. The overarching Kingdom Hearts plot revolves quite a bit around memories and the like, and as a result we have three hundred different Soras wandering around looking like his fourteen year-old self. And as others have stated previously, many of the games have been side-games and not core entries in the series. Sora would be 14 in Kingdom Hearts I, 15 in Kingdom Hearts II, et cetera et cetera. One could argue that there is some sort of image or mechanical reason behind Square doing this that would benefit them but it seems as if it would make little difference. And indeed, it was slated he would be more mature (as mature as Sora can get) in the third installation so the age advancements seem to tie into the core games, which certainly makes sense!

Yeah, in all the others it's necessary for Sora to be KH1 age. I still get what you're saying in why did they have to make all of the game's stories based on younger Sora though, but I guess it was necessary for where they wanted to go with it. Plus, a younger Sora is more innocent, seeing the good in everything with big, sparkly eyes, which is the core of his character.

The only one that initially confused me is why he was young in 3D, but that can be explained by:

the fact at the top of the game, they were back at Destiny Islands at the moment it was being destroyed before Master Xehanort pulled Sora to sleep and Riku entered Sora's dream. So they were stuck at that age for the rest of the game as they traversed the inception like dream worlds. Even when Riku was pulled out of Sora's dream, he remained a dream-eater so long as Sora was asleep.

Whoops! So sorry, it didn't even cross my mind. I got so overwhelmed in the KH culture here, I forgot everyone hasn't played every game, haha!

For story reasons, it's probably just because the storyline hasn't actually moved that far. In real-life reasons, it's most likely cheaper for Square to keep using/adding onto the same character model. They do that in a lot of RPGs.
