If the title doesn't make sense then let me explain... I've seen kids about as old as 8 years old lying about their ages so they can go onto sites like Bebo, Myspace, IMVU... but since their teens sites, curses and alcohol mentioning is obvious to come up.. I mean I know my little brother goes onto bebo and he swears like crazy.. he's sworn more times than me in my entire life and I think it's just the older influences... Agree?

i know what Generation Y is, it's the generation from 1980-2000 right? i do think that going to teenage sites have an impact but not a widespread one. i DO blame internet and the media to a CERTAIN extent for teaching kids foul language, but i believe it is ultimately up to the parents to stop this language as early as possible. i don't think the sites are entirely to blame tho, i mean, someone should be stopping these kids from going to the sites in the first place.

The generation isn't bad. It's just part of the culture/consciousness of this time period. New things come up, such as the internet, in kids lives now and it really shouldn't be anything new that kids swear more when they're little.

I mean, kids have been swearing since they're little all across America for over a hundred years. I guess it's because we have so much communication technology that it's getting much more massive.

No...to blame the generation on only this is crazy, lol. I dont believe this generation is bad either, but there are a lot more elements out there.

Kids have said cuss words for years and get away with it because parents let them. Kids are of course going to hear the words from various sources, whether it's the internet, tv, parents, siblings, kids at school, relatives and neighbors etc. That's just the way it goes. It's however the parents' jobs to teach their kids that they should not say these words or to at least know when to say them and when it is inappropriate. Maybe kids do get a bit more exposure than they used to but I even remember growing up I heard cuss words from my grandfather the most, lol. Sometimes my dad would cuss or older kids in school. It's just the way it is and if parents don't do the right thing, the kids will do the wrong thing.

Its just the way the world is. Internet sites including MySpace is an example, along with Mature Ratings on TV, and School. Anyone can lie about their age and go on mature online sites and watch TV.

The reason WHY they curse is because elders put it so hard on them not to swear, but they like rebel, resulting in what is their liking to curse. Same with sex in the middle teens. When they were young, they were brought up in a world where sex was hinted at all the time and it was a secret to the for so long, but in my opinion, if they knew what it was when they little, that it was just reproduction, then they wouldn't have thought it was such a bad thing so they could rebel.

This isn't a problem. It's a simple progression in lifestyle. Obviously you're going to get more middle class kids with internet access exposed to more "mature" content, but what's the issue here? Does it make you a bad person, breaking these rules that are instituted under irrational groupings? Honestly, you can't judge maturity on age, it's just the only way to measure it with numbers. This is just an inevitability of freedom of information and the numerous open forums on the internet. This may seem odd, but I think this possible desensitizing of the youth to supposedly mature themes is a step forwards. Some of the problem is in the archaic thinking governing the actions of the younger generations. Whatever, I'm babbling now.

We won't know if any of this is "bad" until we take the reins and see how that goes. But for now, it seems to be normal from my standpoint. Just bigger guns, better technology, and a lot of porn.

I used to sneak into PG-13 sites all the time (until I turned 13 XD) and I don't really swear all that much. The only "swear word" I use is crap, and I got that from my sister, not the internet...

As much as I hate to admit it, this is our way of life now. Younger kids are curious to what the older people are interested in protecting so much that they'll do anything to find out. They try to rush to become older as fast as possible and when they finally reach adulthood, they spend the rest of their life trying to maintain their youth. The Internet isn't a playground. The best parent filters in the world can't replace a real life adult supervisor.

Heck, I'll admit right now that back when I was 11, I used to write...objectionable material for...over PG-13 forums.
