    Title says all. Just wondering if anyone here is doing the IB program and what they plan on doing their essay on. I'm writing mine in french (hey it was that or the civil war so...) Gotta wonder how people do it for math. I'd rather die x_x'

    If not, then just IB stuff in general. Junior year has gotten so bad lately. End of the quarter blues ;__;
    (I do hope someone on here knows what I am talking about...)

    Cool, cool :)
    Don't worry you'll do fine until about midway through junior year. Then it actually gets demanding...

    Very nice topic. I imagine there was quite a substantial amount of analyisis there, so IB woul love that.

    French is good and bad. Good, because it's easier to meet the word count. Bad because...well...writing a huge paper in French is never good :'{

    You're not in the IB program silly, you don't have to do this next year xD;

    LUCKY.

    Um I love the Civil War; most fascinating time in history by far but like French is what I'm best at so...
    Thanks, good luck next year as a junior~

    Durrrr IB still sucks; IOPs are soon, french project, French Orals soon, and extended essay topic due friday.
    YIKES ._.

    Anyway, I have decided to write mine on Jacques Cousteau :3
    Completely in french. (Which apparently is rather rare...)

    By free will, I'm a tad nervous about it but I actually think it will be fun since I like different languages ^^

    Well in Norway the classes go a bit different

    1-7 years pre/middleschool
    1-3 years highschool
    1-3 years college

    13 years with school x_X

    So in about one year I'm done with the norwegian highschool and will go to the norwegian college level classes following the IB program ^^

    Ah~
    I was not aware you are from Norway. That is way cool!

    Iceland represent.

    Haha anyway... I see. The system is quite a bit different. So your college classes are IB? Makes sense. They call them IB level for us so.

    Heh, well it's okay xD
    And woo =D

    Yeah it is, I bolded out and coloured the years that will be my IB years. I could be going on the IB high school already but since I've only got about a year left on the school I'm already in it doesn't matter :P
    I'll just go there for college, so yes my college classes will be IB.
    I have no idea what else it's called so ;P
    And it won't be a problem getting in either ~

    Oh ok...Yeah with us, they say it's like taking college level classes in highschool (with the workload and all)

    Ok, so I picked my IOP topic, and my english teacher definitely loved it. I am happy/surprised/yay! His face basically lit up when he heard it and he actually commented on how it was really good (he just picked everyone elses apart from my class...) and I saw him later in the hall today and he was like: "Oh by the way, I REALLY like your IOP topic, it's great."

    Purpose of sharing that tidbit of info? I AM ELATED.
    Because I have been stressing out over IOP topic, French oral topic and my EE topic. I now have all 3 and they have been a hit so far...

    All right what is IB? The closest jump I can make right now is IS (probably because of my whole stupid project) which I'm guessing is way off taget.

    IS? Nope.

    IB stands for International Bacceauleaureat
    Like AP, except most people agree it is harder. AP is more memorizing, IB is more comming up with stuff yourself. Major differences:
    --We need CAS hours. 150 hours of Creativity Action & Service hours. (About 50 hours a piece)
    --We need an Extended Essay (EE) which is a 4,000 word paper on a specific topic of your choice.
    --We have to take ToK (Theory of Knowledge) It is an obligatory class.
    --Our tests are different...We have Paper 1, 2 and sometimes 3. (I think the sciences have Paper 3) In English + Foreign languages we have an Oral exam too.
    --I don't know if AP requires it, but IB requires 4 years of a language. Or 2 years of 2 languages.

    Most of the time, I have found they should really call it IBS but that is beside the point ._.'

    This is how it works in the US: (it is international as it's name suggests, so I imagine it is fairly similar worldwide)
    You begin in 9thgrade+10thgrade by taking PRE-IB classes. (Except Chem, that is technically IB Chem 1)
    11th+12thgrade you take your REAL IB classes. Some advanced kids get there faster though. For example, I am a year ahead in french (so in IB SL2, rahter than 1)
    For those of you math whizzes, you'd be ahead in math by a year.

    Anyway, each class has a test. You can either choose to take your IB classes in SL (standard level) or HL (higher level) Some classes are automatically HL. You need at LEAST 3 HL and 3 SL classes to get the diploma. They don't reccomend ever doing more than 4HL classes because it is too insane.

    If that is kinda confusing, I'll explain to you what I am doing for next year:

    IB Topics (SL)
    IB Business 2 (HL)
    IB French 2 (HL)
    IB Biology 2 (HL)
    IB Math 2 (SL)
    IB English (HL)
    IB Environmental Systems (SL)

    No electives :'<
    (This is because I wanted to take IB ES, if not I *could've* taken an elective)

    It's kinda a pain because IB requires you to have an IB elective (for me it's business because it MUST be a two year course; otherwise I would use ES)

    And then afterschools on Thursdays is when I will be attending ToK. (Theory of Knowledge.)
    This class is REQUIRED to get the diploma.

    Basically, it's incredibly high stress but colleges like it. SOME will even give credit for classes where you get a 5 or better on the IB exam. (5 out of 7) This means you don't have to take the class in college. That's just to give you an idea of how difficult the classes are...Not all colleges do this but some do. Some will also look upon you more favorably because this program is so difficult. The reason they all don't you ask? Because while the program has been around for a while in Europe, it is newer here. They are just starting to accept IB and realize what an accomplishment it is to complete it.

    Hope that cleared stuff up?
    Feel free to ask anything. It's nice to see people take an interest xD;;

    I'm taking ToK (That's actually what my independent study project is for) but I've never heard of IB before. Going into junior year and my schedule has already been submitted though, so if it is available in my area it would take a miracle to get me in. Well I’ve still got my AP’s. And being at Fremd is a bonus too for some reason. Don't ask, I don't know why. That is just what my counselor and my sis told me while she was going through admissions.

    Interesting...at my school they told us we can't take ToK unless we are enrolled in the IB program (the FULL program)

    Theory of Knowledge? You sure it's the same class? If you're going INTO junior year that doesn't make sense because it is only for seniors o_O

    Cool, way to go on AP!

    Was taking it freshman year too, (3 semester class). The first two were actual ToK and this third one is total IS. In fact I only need to show up to class for attendance and then I can leave. lol

    I have a couple of friends doing the IB program actually. Not me though on the other hand. I'm relying on obtaining a good OP.
