Villain this time is Mandarin. Story will be based on the Extremis arc. More info later. Official release date so far: May 3, 2013 (United States) Odd since the trailer says April... First trailer:
Oh man, this looks great. While I did enjoy Iron Man 2, I do hope this one's better. Ben Kingsley as Mandarin...That should be really interesting. Also Guy Pearce in this one = Win. Looking forward to it. The movie comes out in the UK a few other European countries at the end of April
New Iron Man armor > Iron Patriot I thought there was already a thread about this movie. It's going to be different than Iron Man 2 and more "personal" since the last movie was basically an ad for The Avengers movie. I wonder if we'll actually see the Extremis virus by the end. Then Iron Man 4 can have the Bleeding Edge armor. >>; Anyways, I've been waiting for a trailer for a long time. 8D
I'm looking forward to this. I've enjoyed the other two Iron Man movies, and I'm hoping that this lives up to what I'm hoping will be a great box office weekend. Ben Kingsley as Mandarin is an odd choice, but I"m confidant that he can do the character justice. I do have to agree with Machina on hoping to see the Extremis Virus at the end leading into IM4.
So we have War Machine colored as Iron Patriot and Tony getting the Extremis armor, though not sure if they'll do the nanobytes-out-of-his-bones thing just yet. Looking at the way everything's going, I wouldn't be surprised if Pepper became Rescue soon, or at least was implied, too. Mandarin? Mandarin! I'm excited for him, though I wonder if he'll be connected to the Ten Rings from the first movie. Also, it looks, for the most part, to be almost a direct plot adaptation of the Extremis storyline but with Mandarin. Makes me wonder if Mandarin actually has the Extremis virus instead of the firebreathing guy from the actual comics. I was hoping they would change War Machine's faceplate; it's too Iron Man right now. Anyways, even though I've been tired of the RDJ hype, I'm excited! Avengers Phase 2, go!
Isn't that Bleeding Edge you're talking about, where the armor is stored in the hollow points of his bones? I was talking to my friends yesterday about it, though I could be wrong.
Extremis comes first. With the Extremis Virus comes Stark's Extremis armor(model 30 in the comics). Bleeding Edge(model 37) is "what comes next" as Stark says when asked if Bleeding Edge is an upgrade to the Extremis armor. So yeah, Extremis arc comes with Extremis armor and later on after that comes Bleeding Edge. Both armors are stored in his body though.
A little of both. Extremis stores the inner layers of the armor, the "undersheath" is what they called it in-universe, in his bones. Then the rest of the armor is controlled by Tony to place itself upon him. Bleeding Edge, however, is stored inside Tony entirely. Though Bleeding Edge isn't an upgrade to Extremis, it's built upon the same principle of "being a part of Tony."
Things I look forward to - Mandarin. Mandarin is probably the one Iron Man villain I become most familiar with - Extremis arc - Coldblood and Firepower I find it interesting that it's going to be released the same day Avengers was.
...I know Bleeding Edge comes after Extremis ._. Ah, ok. They did say something about his body having like, sensors or something for the rest of the suit to attach to.
Sadly, that won't happen. It's been confirmed that Iron Man will only be a trilogy... at least, that's what I heard. Still, given the amazing trailer, I have high hopes for this one. Between the Extremis armor, the Mandarin as the main villain and the inclusion of Iron Patriot, it had better live up to its hype as much as the Avengers did, if not more.
It's not Iron Patriot. It's War Machine. They simply modeled the paintjob after Iron Patriot since he's affiliated with the government and the crew thought the IP armor was cool.
This kind of worries me in terms of how the film will do. Marvel is known to not bode well with critics on the third film (Last Stand, Spider-man 3, Blade: Trinity)
I'm not at all worried this film will succeed. My only hope is that it's better than Iron Man 2. I liked the movie a lot, but it wasn't overall as focused to me as the first movie. And that's what I think those movies you listed lacked: focus.
I thought it was gonna be Don Cheadle? But anyway, the suspense from the trailer is killing me. D: I want May to be here already...
This looks fricken' epic. I want to see this so much, especially since it has the Mandarin, the biggest villain for Iron Man. Although I have to wonder, if this takes place after Avengers, why can't he just call on someone like Captain America, who has way too much free time on his hands, to come and help? I know I know, it's not the way it works, but it'd be cool either way
I have no doubt they'll take that into account and explain it well, especially with everyone (except poor Hulk...) getting a new movie soon, and thus, their own problems to deal with in different parts of the world...and in different worlds.
This. The thing with big teams like the Avengers and the Justice League is that they're primarily a team to handle problems that threaten more than just a city, like the entire country or the world/universe/etc. Sometimes, once the team gets friendly with each other (I think it took the Justice League about 4 years after forming), they'll call on each other for back-up on things they can't handle themselves, but only rarely. Another thing, I would say it's because the Avengers are, in a way, employed. SHIELD put them together and, movie-wise, I see SHIELD as their boss from a team-perspective. So unless it's something that SHIELD sees as necessary for them to get together, SHIELD won't assemble them. Though they can still get together otherwise, the chances of it are slim (realistically, very possible. Story-wise for the movie franchise: slim). An interview or early plot synopsis, can't remember which, did say that Tony can't just call in the Avengers for help this time. I'm sure, as Hayabusa said, they'll explain it even if it's something as simple as "Hawkeye and Black Widow are doing secret spy stuff for SHIELD, Thor's in Asgard, Captain America is also doing stuff for SHIELD (most likely related to his own movie), and Dr. Banner is working on sciencey stuff." Actually, on that note, they did say before that the Hulk may not get his own movie until after Avengers 2 and might instead guest star in one or two other Avengers movies until then. There's a chance that this could be it, considering the bromance between Stark and Banner. A cop-out way to get it done, though, is the way Smallville did it with Superman and the Justice League/Society. He entered a room and talked to them via comm, telling them he didn't need their help for whatever reason.
