Iron Army

"...the first form of it came into existence soon after I told everyone I was Iron Man. It wasn't supposed to be anything like this but it got out of control to the point where I couldn't even tolerate it in my system anymore... I hated myself when I heard all about the pain and suffering that it was causing... and when I found her... I couldn't help but take her under my wing, knowing that I was the reason her life was destroyed."

Cat didn't want to hear anything else. She felt guilty herself as she remembered all the times she told him of getting revenge for what heppened to her family.

 

Ares frowned.
"Do not bore me with your emotions, Tony Stark. Now ask your question so I may begin my next query. You're wasting my valuable time."
Kam kept still, looking towards the floor with his arms crossed.
'Tony may be the enemy in one sense' he began to think 'but the Olympians are an even greater enemy. And as they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Let's hope these words hold true.'

 

"Alright, alright. I did want to ask you something. If you truly are the 'highest order of human protectors' then why has the human race been continually suffering in one way or another? Even before my virus there's always been pain, suffering, heartbreak, and death. WHY COULDN'T YOU STOP ALL OF THAT BEFORE!?"

Cat was glad that Tony had asked this because she was wondering the same thing herself. She looked over at Kam and saw his gaze switching from Tony to Ares and back again. What was he thinking?

 

"That question is impossible to explain to someone like you. Like answering the meaning of life. But I will try, for Zeus' sake…"
Ares picked up his cane and pointed it at Stark.
"You, my narrowed minded friend, can not see that humans can not be coddled likes children. Every petty life saved is not the way to the greater good. If many dull and dimwitted people must die in order to save the life of an intelligent and superior person, then that is what must be done. It is simple, we simply keep the highest ranking and greatest of people in order to allow the greatest part of the human race live on, and grow."
Ares smirked greatly, chuckiling lightly as he put his cane down and lent back in the chair.
"But as I said Mr Stark, you won't understand what we, the Olympians, actually do to protect the human race. Compassion has no place in a world where you could die every day, only logic wins." Ares paused and shifted his sight. "Dont you agree, Kam?"
Kam simply grunted with an angry frown on his face. He looked over at the woman behind Ares, and without a word he told her exactly what he felt. She nodded in agreement.

 

"That's more or less the answer I expected from someone as cold-hearted as you, Ares. Thank you for at least trying to convey your answer though. Now go on, ask me your next question. The sooner the better." Tony looked at Kam and saw him look at the girl next to Ares. "Hmmm..." he thought "why is she even here? She hasn't said a word since arriving and then Kam is looking at her like..."

Cat couldn't help but giggle at Tony's request to speed things up a bit. She was as curious about Kam as he was and yet she couldn't help but think that this may have been the girl that Kam had talked to back at HQ... the girl he loved...

 

"Do not make demands, Stark, not in our home." Ares shifted uncomfortably before resting, he was an ageing man in his 50s with a pointed nose and high strung attitude. Kam remembered teasing him about his nose once, and received a nasty punishment in return. They were strict group, few of ideas that hold so many thoughts.
"I ask you this, we've been studying the virus for a time now and rlaised it's more than it seems. Not only is it a contagient but also has a collective thinking power. As the mass of this virus came into contact with more virus it would begin to develop thought and action, like a sentient being. Like a human. But the best levels in humans only fill people with murderous intent and a psychopathic rage. Who were the first few people it came in contact with?"
Kam couldn't believe it. Tony Stark may have made the firstintelligent virus in existence. This may either be very good or very bad.

 

"Well to be honest I had been following the progress of the virus myself as well. I didn't know that it was becoming more intelligent though. Thuogh to answer your question the first few people to come in contact with it other than myself were a group of reporters for different magazines. They had come for an interview and killed themselves a week or two later. After that it kept spreading to the point that it was a worldwide epidemic. Is that clear enough for you, Ares? Because i'd like to ask one more question."

Cat was just trying to put everything together. A few days ago her life was perfectly normal, well... for what it was. Then they went on that one mission and things just went haywire from there on. She kept looking at Kam, Tony, Ares, and back to Kam again. It was as if this was all a neverending nightmare.

 

"I won't stop you asking a question Mr Stark… not yet. This will be the final question I can be bothered to answer so make it a good one, and then I will ask my ultimate quesion, understand?"
Kam wondered whatever Tony would say, it would have to be good. Kam tap a few buttons discreetly on the suit, and a small faint hum began. Not enough to be noticed unless you're listening for it, and thankfully the conversation infront distracted people from caring. He was ready for the last plan he ever wanted to set out.

 

"Well, alright then, Ares. This is the final question that I would've asked you anyway. What is your little group hoping to ultimately achieve by doing all of this? I mean if you just want the best humans to live on then it'd take millenia just to get a decent population in one tiny little third world country. You're inbreeding people and that's not the way that it's supposed to work!" Tony could faintly hear the hum coming from Kam's suit. He could easily pick up on this kind of thing after all of the practice.

Cat could hear it as well. She only wondered what he intended to do but whatever it was then she intended to help him in any way possible. Thing is that if he knew she snuck out of the base without him knowing then all of this might go down in flames. She decided to keep quiet until there was an opportunity to strike.

 

"Fool, the numbers of people we protect are in the millions. We haven't a small population, instead our people are made up a great deal of the most important people in civillisation. A great deal of doctors, scientists, mathmaticians, philosophers, artists, musicians, farmers, builders, politicians all on board this base. This Olympus of ours. The ultimate sanctuary for humans against the dangers of th emortal world, such as viruses, disease and murder."
Ares stood from his chair and lent onto his cane.
"We will win back the world far below us, by any means needed. And then we will place the humans back into their world, where we will once again rule supreme as masters of the mortal world, the Olympians, will rise again!"
He cackled a little and placed a giant grin on his face.
"Alas, Mr Stark, our time is coming to an end. One question lay on my lips left to ask you."
Ares clicked his fingers. The lady stopped taking notes behind him and began to walk over to Tony, where she placed an envelope on the table infront of him.
"This is a formal invitation to a most exclusive group, Stark. It contains documents pertaining to your rank and file, but straight to the point, I ask you. Will you join us? Will you join the Olympians in our righteous journey to save mankind? You will be well rewarded for your help. What do you say... God of Light, Hyperion?"
Ares offered his hand out to Stark as if wanting to shake on the deal. Kam was well aware they planned to recruit Tony, but let things take their course. Kam winked at the lady, who walked by and she quickly smiled at him before standing by his side, also waiting for TOny's answer.

Tony looked at Ares, knowing that his name was shared with the Greek god of war. It couldn't be a good coincidence and he knew they were trouble, but he still had his reasons for doing what he was about to.
"...Fine. Consider me an Olympian."
He looked at Ares and Kam, a scowl on his face. He joined to see what they were up to and for no other reason.

Cat was a bit shocked at what Tony just did, but she knew by the scowl on his face that he didn't truly want to be an "Olympian". It was almost like his way of telling her that it was strictly business. He probably knew that she was there and that she would never let him do something like this alone. She just hoped that this would all go according to his plan.

She flew back to the base and trusted that Tony would be able to handle himself, though she still kept Kam under surveillance. He wasn't one to be trusted.
