    One thing peope don't realize is that in Islam, it is considered an insult to show the bottom of one's shoe to another person, You will almost never see a Muslim cross their legs in such a way. So it is considered an even greater insult to throw a shoe. It's even worse that he threw two.

    It has also been mentioned every time the story is mentioned on the BBC. What we are also reminded of is when that statue of Saddam Hussein was torn down, people beat it with the soles of their shoes showing the gravity of the insult.
