This is from a discussion about the Shenmue Saturn Beta footage. This image was linked to this post: Spoiler As this is from /v/, I cannot relink to the original thread. I can tell you, he's absolutely right. The interesting part of this is, if developers could have taken advantage of the technology, THE SATURN COULD'VE BLOWN THE PLAYSTATION AWAY
Holy cow. It amazes me that the Saturn just didn't do all that well in the USA. I'm actually really curious to see how powerful it would have made 2D gaming though. Now that would've been a treat in and of itself.
Learn Japanese, and you can. Saturn had a large library of 2D games that just mostly didn't make it over. Like Dragon Force, Princess Crown (Atlus),Assault Suit Leynos 2, Waku Waku 7, Guardian Heroes, Three Dirty Dwarves, Legend of Eldean, and a hell of a lot more. For the record, another interesting bit of trivia. After the Saturn, the guy who pretty much blockaded all 2D games from coming over went to Sony to run their American branch. Wanna name me off some 2D PS2 games? I know I can, I just can't play them. Because they're in Japanese.
Which was developed by the same people who did Princess Crown, which was blocked on Saturn. Odin Sphere got lucky, pretty much. It is. I always forget the *******'s name, but this foo' thought people were done with 2D games and that 3D games were the way of the future. If it didn't have 3D models, there was a smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll chance of it coming over.
the guy is clearly a moron. if it's a good game, it's a good game. people will still play it. this just pisses me off so much right now. all the games i could have played. but were never released here. god damn
Yep. 2D never died, it just never made it over seas. I'm going to edit this post later with a lovely selection of youtube trailers for games that specifically never made it over.
