INTEREST CHECK Welcome to the Iron Chef KH-Vids: Interest Check! This is an idea that a number of members have been considering for a while - something to spice up the forum, literally and metaphorically, hurray! WHAT? What is this Iron Chef that is spoken of? It is based on the hit television shows in Japan and America - well, Iron Chef. It is essentially a cooking competition that pits two famed chefs against each other to create splendid dishes. The catch? Each competition of the episode has a special (secret) ingredient that must be used somehow, in every dish! It is a competition that pits the creative minds and the cooking skills of many against each other to form delectable things. HOW? But since we are not all Michelin star chefs and this is a very casual thing, certain things shall be done differently! Members may sign up to take part in an Iron Chef competition. A sign up thread will be open for a week or so. When things are ready, the competition will not permit any more competitors for the three weeks that the particular competition will take place. The competition will go on for three weeks and is fairly simple for now - there will be a secret ingredient, and members must make at least two or three dishes containing that secret ingredient. Each competitor must have a final post similar to a recipe format, of sorts. The post must contain: > The list of ingredients> At least five pictures of the preparation method (one picture must also say "Hello KHV!" or something along those lines)> Witty commentary and picture captions After the three weeks are over, a poll will be made with links to the posts so people can vote on their favourite dish. Winner of the week will be able to choose the secret ingredient for next week. There is also talk of instating achievement points similar to the KHV Karaoke Night ones, but based on total votes over different sessions rather than winning per se. INTEREST CHECK // So this is simply an interest check to see if people would be interested in this small community project! That being said, this thread can also be used to post opinions and adjustments on various parts of the rules. Allez cuisine?
I would not necessarily think so. You may have an advantage, yes, but this should be open to everyone. What is more, this is set up in such a way that people involved can learn new recipes and cooking tricks!
You genius. You know what I am going to say regarding this. However it will be unfortunate that I will beat all of you. In a landslide.
What does this mean? How often is this competition run?-- Only problem I see with participation are for poor (or lazy) people who can't get the secret ingredient, like me. Any alternatives for the poor, or do we just not participate? (For instance, the secret ingredient being garlic salt but we only have salt. Secret ingredient is cheddar cheese but we only have mozzarella, etc)
I cannot word things well oops. Say you receive three votes for a dish in one poll and four votes for another dish in another poll. From these you would have seven votes on all of your dishes thus far, even if you did not win the competitions. You would thus have seven achievement points. I was considering a goal for every four weeks or so but this is of course subject to change - one week for the competitors to join, and the three weeks for the cooking/voting. So generally a month. But we can change this, of course. And that was one of my concerns. I was thinking of an expansion upon this: The secret ingredient is actually not really a secret (just a special one) and is instead posted beforehand in the join/admission thread so that people who wish to join know which ingredients they have to purchase, or they can join based on whether or not they will be able to purchase/are in ownership of the ingredient. However, the ingredients will be approved beforehand so we do not have extremely expensive things like caviar or king crab or foods that are extremely hard to find in some places like calamansi. Another alternative would be giving people (or rather, the victor?) a pool of ingredients to choose from. Discussion with competitors could allow people to see exactly what kind of exotic ingredients are present in their locations, because I would still like to see a few exotic ingredients here and there (but they do not have to always be a thing).
I'm interested, dunno how I'll be able to contribute, though. Just out of curiosity, would allergies be taken into consideration? Cause I've got a list of allergies longer than a mile and that may hinder me from joining in...
This looks interesting. It would be fun. I don't know how to cook but considering the time frame I might even try joining. Only problem is taste, if it's food shouldn't taste be an important component, and since this is an online thing we judge by looks alone?
Late replies bluh, I apologize. @Janson: Allergies will be taken into account for food preparation, that is a good idea hm. @cse: Yes sadly. No technology exists to involve taste yet. So it is all about creativity with use of ingredients and the like for now. Hence why it is a very casual and non serious event! However, if anyone is ever interested in tasting these dishes, another prime factor of this competition is the accessibility of the recipes and their recreation! If everything goes according to plan I should be able to get everything up this weekend or next week, hopefully.
