Insults.

Okay, first off, I NEVER complain about this, but honestly it's gotten to the point where it's starting to really hurt.
People have always been calling me names and whatever, and recently, about the start of the school year, it just downright hurts.
Backstory on this is: The area where I live is consisted mostly of Asians, and in fifth grade, we had some kind of heritage thing or whatever so my mom made some Chinese food and brought it in. A few people asked me why I had a European last name but brought in Chinese food, and I said it was because I was half Polish and half Chinese; I don't live with my father so he really couldn't help with heritage day, so I asked my mom.
Fast forward to five years later, where a few people I used to go to school with are still going to school with me, and now they've spread the fact that I'm half and half. This started a new nickname, "Halfbreed".
I didn't pay any attention to it at first, but then more people started calling me that and then all hell broke loose last night.
I got a few text messages saying things that were really harsh, stuff like, "Halfbreeds don't have anyone that care for it" and so on. I don't know who it is sending the messages, so I'm kinda stuck.
Any advice on what I could do? :\

If it's gotten to the point that random folk are sendin' you offensive texts regularly you outta report it. To a teacher at first, but if it persists then i suggest the police.

To be honest, what a load of crap. There is hardly a single person now that doesn't have a mixed family background. The folk that are sayin' these thin's are more than likely to have family from different countries. N' since it's America i'd say it's a safe bet to assume.

 

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Pretty much everyone consists of different heritages. Well what I can advise you to do is, consider the source. You shouldn't let a bunch of immature kids affect you and hurt you. What you could do is laugh about it when someone calls you these names. The reason people call each other names is really to hurt them, so if they know it doesn't affect you, they wont do it as much because it will be boring to them. If you show signs that it offends you, they'll keep doing it. Plus don't let it get to you, you know that stuff isn't true, it's like if I called you a idiot who plays with barbie dolls, you'd be like...ok?...And that's the same way you should take this situation as the lie it is. I know you're human, and these things hurt, but just make 'em feel stupid. Like...

Them:"half breed"
You:"Oh really, I'm a halfbreed? *sarcastically*, that's hilarious, cause I'm two different things? GOOD ONE! *rolls eyes*

That's sounds kind of dumb, but it worked for me.

Firstly, I dont know about anyone else, but to me, being half Polish and hald chinese sounds friggin' awesome. You should be proud that you stick out. You're unique. You aren't like the others. Pffft. Who wants to be normal, anyway?

I think you're letting yourself get too botheres by them. You should throw back their comments. They call you halfbreed, say back "So what?" or "Wow, never heard THAT one before!" I get teased a ridiculous amount at school but when I'm insulted I usually just turn around and target them, then watch them squirm >D

Change your self confidence and you're not so much of a target.

You could go down the whole "Tell an adult" route since you must know who says stuff to you in school, but lets face it, sometimes that option can make things worse |:

Where I live...it's a really serious divide between Asian and Caucasian. It's like...you're either one or the other, so in their eyes, I am two things.

I know I should report it, but my mom is already considering to pull me out of the school I'm in because my grades didn't start out too well, and I don't want to tell her anything that may jeopardize me staying in the school. I'm gonna ask around Monday to see if anyone recognizes the number; I have a pretty damn good idea as to what group of people may be doing this. I don't know how they got my number as it is.

I've been brushing off comments like this for a long time though, and I feel like I can only take too much before I snap. But due to a few events in my life my fighting spirit has taken a nosedive and I don't have the energy to fight them off. >_>;;

Usually people who say things like that do it to make themselves feel better. next time someone says it to say "Im really sick of your crap." or "Wow Ur mister/misses popular." or "haha wow funny guy here." Or something like that, then insult them back. Stand up for yourself. but if i continues over a long period of time, call the police.


Ive had this done to me but not like this. Im not the popular one in my school so im usually pushed around or picked on.

 

You honestly think retaliation would solve it? If anythin' it could make it ten times worse. Not sayin' it will, but there's a good possiblity. I suppose it could show that you're strong enough not to take any crap n' are willin' to stand up for yourself but they could see it as a challenge, try harder to break you. You would be sinkin' to their level also.

You could continue to ignore 'em. I know it's difficult but you could eventually learn to block out their comments completely. That's what i did to folk that mocked me for my religious beliefs.

Don't keep it in. Ask what your friends suggest. Look to 'em for some comfort. Hopefully they'll back you up. ^^

nvm the insult them back part but dont be afraid to stand up for yourself with strong comments. "Wow MR funny guy." I have found to work the best with me.

 

Honest to god, hon. I don't think there's a single person alive that isn't one sort of ethnicity. In a sense, we're all "mutts". Try telling them that. We all came over here from somewhere. No one has a "pedigree".

I only know half of my heritage, and that's because my father was adopted. I'm Italian, Polish, and Spanish, and that's just the mom's side.

Just hold your head high and don't let them get to you. If you show them any sign that what they say is getting to you, they win. Can you block phone numbers? See if you can do that so whoever's texting you can't get through.

ignore.

It makes the people calling you "halfbreed" look stupid if you don't give them a reply or even body language (such as even a face twitch or a depressed look) if you don't respond they'll realize how ******ed it is to talk to a wall and move on with their lives.

Also if you change your cellphone number then you wouldn't get those ugly texts right?

If that continues I'd consider changing the number.

 

I usually just ignore insult. Don't let what people say bring you down. Ignore it and they'll eventually stop.

As for the text messages, try to find out who it is and deal with it or possibly change your number.

 

Yeah, i have the same thing because im spanish, german and irish and they call me a slew of names (Some also not related to my heritage..:/) but usally i try to ignore it..but if it gets too far, you have to tell someone, it just hurts too much to hold it in.

You should probably get them to seriously stop calling you that. Talk with them, sit them down, etc... I wouldn't suggest getting authority involved (school or parent, etc), as that might make it even worse. I'd say "let it die," too, but since you say it has been going on for a while, it might not be that way.

 

I am half-Caucasian/Native American and can understand as I've been called 'halfbreed' often enough. What I normally do is explain 'I have the best of both worlds and you've got only one'. Or I make some wisecracks and let it go over my head. Most people have 'polluted' lines anyway and just don't know it so racial purists should just be laughed at. What these people say is pathetic and best to not only be ignored, but try to find it humorous. Stupid actions done to someone should not make the someone feel bad. They should instead think 'that really was idiotic' and leave the fault on those with the simple minds. You are who you are. Hopefully they won't be idiots for the rest of their time.

In seriousness, most of us 'halfbreeds' really do just learn to joke about the stuff and move on. It's really the only thing to do. Think of it this way...you can make Caucasian and Chinese jokes with no guilt. xD

Thanks guys, really. It helps to know that not everyone judges based on heritage.

I've been ignoring this for five or six years, so come Monday I'm not gonna give up until I figure out how to finally put an end to this. I have narrowed it down quite a bit with some help, and now it's down from a potential 200 something to about 26. It's one benefit of being in a small school.
I'm not goin to fight insult with insult, because that hasn't worked in the past. Besides, I'd like to remain "the good guy" through this, giving as little as possible for these *******s to use against me.
Yes, the texts are still coming, but I REALLY don't want to change my number because that would require contacting a lot of people and explaining everything, which I'd rather not do.
