No Thanks Inactive users.

I was browsing the user list and I found there are a lot of users that have never posted. I think these are the sort of people who just "join because they're cool". I think that they should be removed (NOTE this does not include the ones that only post in the RP arena I respect this) I think it is cluttering up the forum and giving an unfair picture of the forum and how many members it has.

Let me know what you think.

No that is a really bad idea what if they didn't post because the left for a vacation or something right after they joined...

 

I'm not saying if they didn't post like in a week or something I'm taking about 3,4,5,6 months.

 

I am still going to say no to this. Deleting members will then not show an accurate image of the site, because sure ok they might not be active, but they are still members.


If any should be deleted it should be alt accounts. ​

I might as well just say it with once. This isn't going to happen.

We're not deleting those users for the good reasons stated above.

I would just like to add that it would take far too long to go through our 15,000 inactive users and figure out what's an alt, who might return, etc.

Considering we only have three admins including myself that could work on this project, it just isn't worth it...

 

User Clean Up

Now, im not really sure but do users take up space?, for example does every User count towards something that slows the server if there are too many or the servers?

well if it does i propose that the Staff (and i love all of you so ill volunteer) clean up the members, the ones that join and never post, look in the member list it wont take long to find them

now, im not saying everyone that have 0 post be deleted, im saying if they havent been active for around 6months and there isnt anything in the departure lobby about them, then send an email or somthing sayin, your not active and if you dont repsond (or somthing like that) your account will be deleted, and if they come back and there like "wtf" weres my accont they could just make another, unless it happens again

im just saying it makes our site look icky if half the members are people with 0 posts

 

Sounds like a good idea to me.. but um.. there's like, over 100,000 of said people. :S

Plus, we'll lose our tiny slice of fame. D:

 

yea our total user number would go down, but, it looks crappy if half the memebrs are 0 posters

oh and FYI: the members that clean up this problem could be called "the cleaners" there a fourm of staff, but only have the power do clean up the 0 posters

 

I don't think this is a good idea. There are some members that actually register their account, forget about it, and then come back after a period of time (like a year or so).

It wouldn't be fair to delete their accounts if they took the trouble in registering for one in the first place.

Plus, there are members that post ONLY in the areas that don't count, so if they decide to leave after being here for a short while (maybe a month tops) and they come back and find their accounts deleted...

Well, that's my take on it anyway. It's more trouble than its worth for the staff and the members.

 

How about no. And it wouldnt do ANYTHING.
Ive seen sites with over 200,000 members and it doesnt cause them problems. Also, the staff would have to go through 30,000 members manually. Not fun.

 

k, thats why we send out an email saying HEY! ur going to lose your accont, if they reply to the email there on a "list" of active users

and it is trouble for the staff, thats why they should put the task on other members, instead of themselvs cuz they have other stuff to do, thats why "The Cleaners" would only have the power to "Clean the memebrs that arnt active"

 

Not really no... the server is slowed by traffic and maintance tables that need to be repaired. It's true that we have a lot of inactive members, but it still helps our site statistics. It doesn't look as good if we don't have as many registered users... inactive or not. Also you never know when someone might start posting again, even though that isn't a main concern. It's not worth going through the entire Members List to do something like this.

 

..ok..i was just wondering if they did or not, but since they dont i guess theres not point to it...

I agree with you.

I thought of suggesting this awhile ago, then I remembered that I was one of those people. I registered in June, but wasn't active until around October or November. It just wouldn't be fair.

I think we should leave it, unless database errors become too frequent.
