In The Times Of Fairy Tails

Gaius walked back towards the guild hall, his nose still sore from where Mikasa had hit him. The trip back had been relatively quiet; he was both tired from the fighting and also feeling quite content with things. As he neared the guild hall, he could see Caleb leaning against the castle, simply waiting. He waved to his friend before speaking. "Hey Caleb, lost somethin'?" he asked.


"Sort of. I haven't seen Skadi since before she left on the mission. I'm starting to get a little worried, this isn't like her" Caleb responded, before noticing the various injuries on his young friend. "What happened to you?" he questioned, the concern evident in his voice. He rolled his eyes quickly, however, at Gaius' response.

"Fought a maniac trying to free a demon. Guy just didn't want to stay down, he kept going into different forms. At least Cal didn't have more than one form, she went down pretty easy" Gaius answered.
"Calxiyn was fighting you?"
"Yeeeeeah, she put on some mask and went insane. It's okay though, still kicked her ass" Gaius replied. He went to walk past Caleb and into the guild hall, but stopped and looked over his shoulder at Caleb. "You coming inside or what?"

Caleb shook his head. "I'm going to wait out here for a few more minutes, see if Skadi turns up"
"Alright, suit yourself" the fire mage said as he pushed open the doors and walked inside.

As Gaius opened the doors, a strong gust of wind blew through the doors behind him, as though even mother nature was like 'holy crap, Team King has returned'. And it should have been, because not only were they the legendary Team King, but they were the first group of non S class members to complete a S class mission. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as they took the first steps inside, with the sound of silence accompanying them followed closely by the sound of a single step. It was a very intense moment, one full of seriousness and tension, right up until Gaius decided to open his mouth.

"We're back, and damn did we kick some ass. We're S class material right here, slayers of demons, destroyer of lunatics, and so powerful we destroyed the moon itself!" Gaius declared. He then saw Skadi and called out to her. "Hey Skadi! Caleb's looking for you, he's outside" he shouted.


With Quinn backing down and settling for a drink, Gexln decided the best thing to do was to continue his drink undisturbed. He'd wanted a fight, but if Quinn wasn't willing then there weren't many people he thought would be a challenge. He turned and sat down on one of the stools and was about to order another drink, before he heard the sound of a certain loudmouth shouting about how strong he was. He looked over his shoulder. "I only just got back a short while ago, but the moon seemed intact then" he said dryly.

"Well yeah, if we destroyed the actual moon we'd cause all kinds of problems, we got rid of a curse that's been on that island for a long time now though!"
"If you lied about destroying the moon, how can we believe you about the other things?"
"Because they're true!"

At this comment, Gexln stood up from the bar and strolled over to where Gaius was. He stood over the boy, not a great deal taller than him but enough he could look over him. "Dunno, you look pretty scrawny to me" he responded.
"You don't look very tough either. I bet I could take you down with one hand behind my back"
"I doubt you could even land a hit on me with both hands available"
Before Gexln could react, Gaius lunged forward and punched him straight in the arm, before backing up a short distance. "Looks like you're the liar here" he taunted.
"I like your attitude, but that's only going to get you so far" Gexln said as he lunged straight for Gaius.​

 

"I need to get that back, you don't understand. It's... it's a part of me. If I'm away from it for too long I'll..." Calxiyn didn't want to think about what would happen. She turned to Thea, who was making no sense to her. "OH! Thea I didn't see you there, I'm sorry." She frowned. "Fairies?" She asked. "There's such thing, I thought fairies were only a myth... but if they're real, and magical, then I'm sure they're alright." She smiled to the girl. "I forgot, we're roommates now, sorry for bothering you, Thea."

 

Vance walked around the guild hall, trying to find something to do with himself with mixed success. Less than that truthfully. There just weren't many people he could really... Associate with. He was having a hard time spotting people to talk to in the big room, people there were desirable at any rate. There were plenty of fairly unsavoury or otherwise scruffy looking characters around but beyond that, there really was very little.



Caliborn rolled his eyes. He would have to talk to Mikasa about that later, as amusing as it was. He wasn't able to not smile at that, despite the severity of the situation because it was always amusing to him, seeing people with such overbearing pride brought down like that. It was really quite something. The boat journey wasn't too long or arduous and they were soon back at the guild hall. That's when things were going to get very interesting for certain characters who had not escaped trouble by staying quiet and out of the way. He had never seen Dale look abashed about anything, but he somehow managed it although whether it was genuine or not was another matter. He liked Dale, he was a good man at heart and a good student he felt, but all people had their flaws and his was trying to cover up disobedience and having no restraint with lying if it meant avoiding trouble. This however, was not a situation he was ever going to get out of. As soon as they were back in the guild, he felt Boreal stirring. That meant it was time to have a chat.
"Dale, come with me."




"Dale come with me." Dale gulped. ****. I didn't think I'd get out of it. It looks like Boreal is coming round... To Evanora... Here goes something... Dale followed Caliborn to Evanora, who requested that they go to her office immediately for a more private conversation between them. He shot a glance at Boreal. What are they going to do with him? They can't be keeping him around surely, after trying to release Deliora? That would be madness. We should turn him over to the authorities immediately. It's safer that way. He won't be able to free Deliora from a cell.



"Mmph, mneh. Demon... Deliora... Die... Ugghhh... Brother... Out of my way... Ugghh." The semi lucid Boreal groaned.




"It's not your fault Jack." She said sullenly, sitting down looking miserable. It was nice of him, to call her friend but she wasn't paying attention to that right now. It didn't matter. Not at the moment. "There's nothing you could have done. Or any of us really. Except me. I had the power you know? My abilities..." She activated the Barrier Surge shield around her to demonstrate. It only made her regret not doing it more honestly. She could have done something, saved him. If only she had used this.
"I could have used this. It protects me from harm. I could have gone in there, into the fire and freed Eric using -" She explained, but stopped when Jack took her hand. She yanked it away. He was talking again, asking her if we wanted to go to the funeral.
"Yes, I want to visit his funeral, but I'll do it alone! I don't need you and your pity!" She snapped. She stood up sharply, the chair making a loud grating noise as the legs were dragged noisily over the floor by the swiftness of her standing. What does he think he's doing, touching me like that at a time like this! I didn't give him permission, I didn't even make it out like I wanted it. Honestly! No wonder Sara was so frustrated with him! Alessia turned and walked away from him. If only there was someone sane around here that wasn't trying to make advances or something!




Something had been bugging him the whole way back from the mission, and it had only just dawned on him. He had seen the trials to get into the guild. There was the Snooty Noble, the Chiller Noble, Gloves guy and Key Bint 2.0 and Greek Letter Bloke. But there certainly wasn't Gender Shifting Street Performer Man-Lady. He would have remembered someone like that for sure. So he decided to deal with it.
"Oi, Gender Shiftin' Street Performer person!" Edric called, heading straight for Zéphyrine. He folded his arms while looking at her. "I don't knoo if ya knoo, but we have triuls here ta get inta the guild. I woulda remembered someone like ye, sa tell me- Who are ya, and what are ya doin' in oor Guild, and on oor missions?"

Malkira was still grinning inside when they got back to the guildhall, yes, they utterly destroyed that pitiful man, he still had blood on his cloak as he entered wielding his battleaxe. There were new people, not that he paid attention to the old people but these were most certainly new. Fights were breaking out, this, he decided, was much more his kind of place. He noticed Vance wondering around being his usual pompous self. He approached the noble trying to look relatively friendly.
"Vance Dorian. I must admit, when I first met you I thought you were a snooty, pathetic and self-centred aristocrat. But after that mission I must admit to you, you're not quite as pathetic as I thought you were. You showed yourself as a leader, and you're not as weak as I expected. But you are still an idiot. You disassociate yourself from your colleagues because you think you're better than them, when I was Malkira the Ravager, warlord of the East, I drank and sang with my soldiers after every great victory and helped the wounded after our very few defeats, and every one of them was a loyal man willing to follow me into every battle who would rather die than desert. There is a whole guild of soldiers here and here you are standing around alone, if you are a natural born leader as you say, do you want them to follow you?"

 

Zéphryine could play this a few ways. Disappering with some of her powder was a good idea, but since it wasn't sure to work on Edric it was passed on. Playing dumb wouldn't work either, wearing no symbol of the Guild meant that it would obviously be seen through. Thinking about a plan and observing Edric, it was noticed that he might like to drink.

"Oh Edric, let a load off..." Zéphryine smiled at him slyly, though pretending to have a look of affection "You must be oh so tired from all these S-Class jobs, why not have a drink?" Zéphyrine said, massaging his shoulders. This was sure to work, being a master of this craft, he couldn't resist her.




"No, no of course I don't hate you. You're one of us now, right?" Calxiyn smiled happily.


Evanora was obviously stressed out, but now that all of the members were back she could relax a little. Without Cassandra around she had little insight on what happened at Galuna Island. "Caliborn, what do you have to report?" She asked him, not questioning Boreal, nor Dale just yet.

 

"Ya knoo, I do appreciate the effort but really, ye've got ta tell me whoo ya are and what yer doin' here." He had to admit, he was getting relaxed but he couldn't be distracted, no matter how good this massage was!



Not especially pleased at how this Malkira decided to lecture him, he drew himself up to full height, despite the golem towering over him by far and stood his ground.
"Of course I do, but who are you to question my methods? You may be right, you may be wrong, but frankly I do things my way and my way alone as is my right!" Suddenly, Vance sneered. "And if your soldiers were so perfect and loyal and effective, then you wouldn't be interred in this golem would you? Pretty sure it wasn't old age that killed you, was it, Malkira the Ravager? Perhaps Malkira the Ravaged would be more appropriate for you at the moment. Look here, I have my ways and I do not have to listen to anything you say. My talent is natural. They followed me once and they may well follow again. You saw it yourself, and you co-operated didn't you? I think what happened out there speaks for itself doesn't it?"



"Galuna Island. There are a few things that you need to know about. Two of these things concern people from this guild. Namely Dale and Calxiyn. We'll deal with Dale first if you don't mind Evanora, but I think he's the more pressing case at this time. He and his half brother."

"Now then, Dale you knew that the Galuna Island mission was S-Class, didn't you? And that guild members who are not S-Class, even you, aren't meant to take those jobs are they?"

"No. They're not."

"So why then Dale? I didn't think you'd be so reckless."

"Because I needed it. It paid well, and I've been low on money. I thought we could do it. Take a few guild members out there, with me there and some of the finest new wizards Sapphire Eclipse has available to them I thought it would be fine. We could divide up the reward and everyone could be proud of themselves."

 

"It must be horrible being a big strong S-Class like you, I bet The Guild Master gets you to do alllllll the work. It must be a lot of work, you must be so stressed." Zéphryine continued. "Missions all the time must give a man a zest, for a little rest and recreation. You need a chance to hunt for the spiciest-" Zéphryine sung, winking. "In the way of rest and recreation." Letting go of his shoulder, she wiggled her fingers in the air, laughing softly.


"Dale..." Johanna whispered. The Guild hall was nearly silent near Evanora's throne. Everyone was listening.

"Dale, I'm very disappointed in you." She spoke. "I hope you've learned your lesson well. I thought you were a good candidate for the S-Class trials. I was wrong, it seems. You should have swallowed your pride and asked for help with your money trouble. You know anyone here would have helped you." She looked toward Johanna. " You don't have to resort to breaking the rules in order to get pay. From now on you'll have to go on your jobs with an S-Class member, until I'm sure that I can trust you not to put the Guild's name, the members, and yourself in grave danger."

 

Edric frowned, growing very, very suspicious. Now, he liked a drink, he liked a massage and he liked a woman. But he knew when they were laying it on thick and this, this was about as thick as it got. He wasn't an idiot. Sure, he drank a lot but what she might not have realised was something simple- He just hadn't had much to drink today. Well this is probably a good time for this. I ain't plastered outta my head.
"Look laddie and lass, I knoo when someone is layin' it on thick. Yer trying to get somethin' outta me, probably distract me and while I might be a drinker, an' a fool at times, I ain't that much of a fool." He stood up again and looked at her, raising his eyebrows. "i'll ask ya again, an' I'll give ya a chance. Yer've shoown me ya ent too bad at the whole wizarding business. Ye sit doon wi'me here no tricks an' talk straight with me, and E'll talk with Evanora fer ya. We can set ya up some treeals if ya want. But I ain't gonna fall fer something as painfully obvious as what yer pulling."

 

Zéphryine sighed. This wasn't going to work. There was the possibility of arrest for impersonating a Guild Member, and letting that happen would be... no. The last plan was, well, crying. "I can't believe you reject my advances, what's a poor, poor kid to do?" Taking a handkerchief from the dress, and walking behind the bar, Zéphryine started to pull on it, doing a very convincing job of crying. Suddenly, Zéphryine twisted it into what looked like a small tornado, though it was only a trick and not real magic. The handkerchief fell onto the floor, and Zéphryine escaped using the cellar behind the bar, and ran.

 

Dale frowned and looked up at her. After what he had just been through, with his own half-brother trying to murder him, he didn't plan on standing for this Johanna and Caliborn and the rest of them be damned!
"So, I get home after nearly getting murdered by my frankly insane half-brother and this is what I get? Hell, this is what I get for leading people on a mission that saved countless people! Do you even know what we found there Evanora? Deliora? Remember hearing about that. Giant demon, killed countless people up North, my father sacrificed himself to kill and now you are having a go at me, punishing me, for stopping Boreal in his madness freeing a goddamn demon to try and kill it and avenge our father? He'd have failed and then what? It wreaks havoc upon everything? We, the guild have to risk our lives to stop it?" Dale was on the very verge of shouting. "And you know what? We did it. I ****ed up, I broke a rule and I shouldn't bloody well do it again but you know what, I think that what we did warrants a little more credit and a little less whinging about some bloody rule that I broke! I'm still that good candidate you thought I was. I'm not perfect, but then again I'm not the one stealing boats when I said we should go find one, was I? I was the one who actually called them out on their actions, and you know what the rest of them did? Laughed it off! Actually, a little something else for you- Feel free to ask anyone who went to Galuna. I saved their lives during that mission. I was the reason we succeeded, I kept them alive through the hardest bloody battle of my life against my own family! They'll back me up there! I'm not perfect, but I don't deserve this ****ing humiliation you're making me suffer through here!"



Edric was immediately distracted from the crying Zéphyrine. As soon as Evanora declared her judgement on Dale, he winced. When Dale shouted back, then things got serious. He didn't even notice her slipping away.
"Oooh ****." He said. "You done ****ed up there laddie..."

 

Evanora took a deep breath. "If you believe that what you did in your heart is right, then why do you react this way? You need to defend your actions, why? Why if you think they were the right ones. Are you not sure of yourself Dale? Their lives wouldn't need saving if you hadn't put them in danger in the first place. It could have gone much differently, you know that as well as I do. You're selfish, and you're only thinking about yourself. Think about the members of this Guild. Do you even care about your own life, Dale? Do you care about the lives of your Guild mates. You went to Galuna, and even after you knew what Boreal was planning, you didn't come back for back up. You thought you could handle it all yourself, and you put everyone in even more danger. What's the point of being in a Guild if the only one you think about is you. You think about how hard you worked, how much you suffered, but did you not stop to think about the rest of our family here." She spoke strongly. "Break a rule you may, but that isn't why I discount you. I do that because you are selfish, you have a horrible temper, and because you do not think about how your actions could impact the world around you."

"I won't talk about this anymore. Caliborn, what of Calxiyn, and Boreal?"

 

Jack's pov:

"Yes, I want to visit his funeral, but I'll do it alone! I don't need you and your pity!" Alessia snapped. He didn't care what she said he was still going. But before he could say anything she took off. He wasn't going to fallow her she needed time a lone. He felt hurt when all he was trying to do was help and be a friend but no she didn't want it right now. He then saw Caliborn he finally could ask him a question. Then he notaced Dale with him. Well then he desided to wait until Alessia came back, because she might return for some reason or wait until Caliborn was done with whatever he was doing.

Amanda's pov:

She wondered back into the main hall wipeing her eyes maybe no one would notice she had cryed, there was a hope right there. Then She saw Lucia maybe she would talk to her for a while. "Hi."

 

"If that's what you think, then so be it." Dale snapped turning away. He reached into his pocket and pulled out something and threw it on the ground. "This was on Cal. She used it to fight us. She betrayed us. Now if you'll excuse me I'll take my leave." Dale stalked off into another part of the guild's castle. He didn't have any direction in mind, he just went.



"From what I've heard from the others, and the recently departed Dale," Caliborn began, watching his student storming off angrily. Dale, why? Just... Why? He picked up the mask that Dale had rather unceremoniously thrown to the floor. "Calxiyn supposedly betrayed them. She decided to throw her lot in with Boreal and wore this mask to fight them. It possessed her of great magical strength and she made herself quite the pain for the guild members. Then, the conflict turned to Boreal. Boreal himself appears to have been fighting to free Deliora in revenge for his and Dale's father's death. Dale clearly disagreed with this as we just heard and Boreal it seems has a grudge against Dale prompting a conflict during which many people were injured, which I can attest to having arrived at the very end and seeing the results. He's a magically powerful force, I can say that much. To take out that many wizards and injure Dale so heavily, he's not a force to be lightly reckoned with. I think any S-Class here could handle him, but he would certainly give anything less than S-Class wizards a lot of trouble." As if by mention of Deliora and his quest for revenge, Caliborn suddenly felt Boreal throw himself off his back and land on the ground heavily.



It wasn't hard to appraise the situation. He was in a hall, with a lot of wizards. Including Calxiyn, Ra, Charlotte... All of the ones from the island and more. And what must have been the Guild Master, Evanora who Cal had mentioned.
"Guild Master Evanora, is it? My name is Boreal." He said smoothly, wiping himself down. I'm going to need to talk fast to get out of trouble here. She was heavy handed with Dale and he just broke their rules, what she could do with me... I wouldn't want to find out. "I don't deny any of this. I wanted to destroy Deliora forever, banish it in the name of justice and to avenge my father. I see now that this was foolish, and that I was misguided in my actions. I should have respected my father's sacrifice." There was one thing he always had better than Dale- His ability to lie. He was sincere, in fact he doubted anyone would suspect. Perhaps the Galuna people, but he was used to putting on a show. These people had got in his way, he respected their power and skill and grudgingly admitted his brother had talent, if unelegant in nature. He was not however, happy with his father's sacrifice. Deliora needed to be destroyed. And worse, the Moon Drip had weakened the shell before it was complete. He could be released at any moment, any time. It was just a matter of when. That was something that they hadn't realised when they just left the island. The Iced Shell around Deliora could well be broken by it now, in theory. He would tell them that later. For now, he just had to negotiate his way out of the bad side of Evanora.

Malkira listened to Vance's retaliation calmly, there was no need to get angry.
"I may not be the most socially eloquent person so perhaps you don't understand, I'm trying to give you advice. Also it would do you some good to recognise a compliment when it's given to you, you are a good leader, I'm not arguing, it's just a shame you're also a generally unlikeable person" and with that Malkira walked away before Vance could respond, he did not need to sink to Vance's level. Looking around for someone better to talk to he noticed a young man standing around awkwardly.
"Greetings, you look new here, may I ask your name?"

Damian could not help but feel slightly afraid of the massive golem that approached him "Uh, Damian" he replied, he was slightly surprised the statue could speak without any visible mouth "And you are?"
"I go by Malkira the Cursed, but just Malkira is fine. Why did you join the guild?"
"I wanted to help people, so far I haven't really been given a chance"
"I wanted much the same, I've spent far too much of my life... and undeath... killing people, I wanted a bit of a change" Malkira looked at his bloodied axe "Come to think of it, nothing much has changed"

 

"OW!" Calxiyn fell to the floor. When Dale dropped the Mask, it had chipped. "My heart... oh no..." She started to turn a ghostly colour.


"Dale." Johanna called after him. "Hey." She grabbed the shelve of his shirt.

Evanora listened intently. "Calxiyn wouldn't let herself get controlled again, not by anyone. I spoke with her myself, about that mask. I don't doubt she's done this, but I think there's more to it." She looked at Boreal. "I'm not a fool Boreal. You might be able to fool Calxiyn but you will not do the same to me. You mind control one of our Guild Members, try to destroy them all, and believe I will take some kind of pity on you? No. I refuse." She stood up. "Having both Ezekiel and Boreal in the Outlands could be dangerous. Instead..." Evanora shot chains from her fingers, and used them to bind Boreal like she had Ezekiel. "Mikasa will take him to the dungeon. Find her, that's an order."

She then spoke to Caliborn in a hushed tone. "Caliborn, please go give Calxiyn that Mask. You must think me a fool for it, but you don't understand. Without it she will parish."

 

Caliborn nodded. He knew better than to question Evanora's judgement on such matters. He pocketed the mask to keep it safe.
"As you say, Evanora." He nodded and went on a magical quest to go find Mikasa. Aka, he just went into Mist Body and flew to her brooding tower where he found her seated upon the roof as usual. He landed gracefully next to her.
"I hate to interrupt you when you're resting, but Evanora wants you. Dragging Boreal off to the dungeons." He reported. "Oh, and do you have any idea where to find Cal? I have to give something back to her, Evanora's orders."



"I see, very well. I respect your judgement." Boreal said, acting the perfect prisoner. He would bide his time. There would come a time when he could surely talk his way out of this. After all, he was himself and his research may be useful to Sapphire Eclipse. "Before I go, I should warn you. The Moon Drip ritual that I performed has weakened Deliora's restraints. For the sake of other people, since I won't be available to destroy it, I suggest you send some people to either destroy him, or reform the barriers to keep him sealed away. This wouldn't have been a problem, however by the time you intervened the ritual was too far gone to be stopped entirely. Given time, Deliora while weak may break free. And when he does, you must be ready. I would advise defeating him before that. If there is anything you wish to know about the Moon Drip ritual and such, feel free to ask. Since you're dragging me off to a cell you may as well ask any questions you've got should you have the time."



Dale nearly, nearly snapped at the person, but then he recognised Johanna's voice. For once, he managed to catch himself. He was in enough trouble already, he didn't want to make this any worse. Besides, she was probably very disappointed with him anyway at the moment, he didn't need to make her any angrier with him. He dearly hoped she wasn't going to say anything too rough. He didn't feel particularly emotionally stable, if he ever was. Maybe she could already see that in his eyes, maybe she couldn't.
"Hi, Johanna." Dale said, trying to keep himself together.

 

"Thank you, Caliborn." Mikasa gave him a small smile. He had come to get her personally. She scorned him when he mentioned Calxiyn "I don't know where she is. Sorry." Mikasa muttered disgruntled.

"I'll let the magic council know." She said nothing else, sitting down in her chair.

Mikasa, still angered that Caliborn asked her about Cal, grabbed Boreal by the neck, and used her maneuver gear to get back to the tower. She used her body to break the window in. She threw Boreal down, and she muttered to herself, putting a new window pain on the one she had just broken. She really didn't give a ****, since she had them lined up by the window. She must have needed replacements.


Johanna put her arms around him. "Please don't scare me like that. You could have died... I don't know what I would have done if you had died Dale..." She held him tighter. You could hear the tears in her voice. "I was so scared... I was so scared when I heard what happened on Galuna! I wouldn't have even gotten to say goodbye to you!"

 

"I- I-" Dale sputtered. He didn't know what to say, but he knew immediately what to do. Dale put his arms around Johanna and held her tightly in a hug. He felt her arms tighten around him, and he felt increasingly worse and worse as she cried. Combined with the already high emotional tension going on at the moment, it didn't take long for him too to break down into tears. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... How, how can I make it up to you? I didn't... I didn't realise or think... Blood- Johanna I'm sorry..." Dale let himself weep. It was okay, she was there. It was all going to be okay. I can't pull that kind of stunt again. I just can't. I can't upset her like this again. Bloody hell... I should have realised... I knew I was going to come back and I hoped that she'd be proud of me...
""It's okay... I'm here... I'm here." He said, trying to comfort her.



Well she was a subtle woman. He rubbed his neck and massaged it after his wild ride through the skies at the hands of the frankly devilish Mikasa. There were a disturbing amount of glass panes in the room, leading him to believe that this was disturbingly frequent. He looked outside and saw quite the view. At least this tower had a vie- He burst out laughing all of a sudden.
"And here I thought it was the princess that was supposed to be locked in the tower by the evil witch." He commented. Then he remembered. She's still here... Oh dear. "Uh oh. Don't hurt me too badly, please?" Boreal stood up straight and prepared to get hurt.



Caliborn had a vague suspicion that something was wrong, and it happened exactly when he mentioned Cal. He made a mental note to himself to therefore ask Cassandra about these things rather than Mikasa. Was she really that obsessive and insecure? He began to have serious worries over his colleague wizard. Mikasa was... A nice girl... Sometimes. She just had a bad attitude and he wasn't entirely sure why. He had never asked, so maybe he would.
