First question: Does it look like a newspaper page? ._. I actually do need some CnC on that because it's for school. English teacher wants an obituary for Edgar Allan Poe, so excuse my lame writing style and total inability to write an obituary. >_> And if anyone notices a detail about Poe that's off PLEASE tell me because I need a good grade. 8D Only thing used from the 'net was the image and ravens. Everything else I made. *twitch* Bonus points go to who can guess where the inspiration for the headline comes from. :D
Yes, it definately looks like a legit newspaper. You will probably get an A+ , just because of the design. Most kids can't do that sort of thing.
well i'm not exactly good at CnCing stuff like this. to answer your first question: yes it does look like a newspaper page, maybe put a page number or something on the bottom to make look a bit more realistic. I dunno XD only thing the headline is reminding me of is a nightwish song called The Poet and The Pendulum XD
Thanks. ^^ But taking it off a white background = not fun. xD Thanks. :3 And wow, you have more confidence in me than I do. xDD Thank you. :3 Page number...yeah, I forgot about that. xD AND YES IT IS A REFERENCE TO POET AND PENDULUM. 8DDD
That looks really professional but if its really that old maybe you should use coffee to give it that aged look?
The Ravens really remind me of his Poem. ._. I liked Edgar Allen Poe. He was rather scarey, but I liked it. (: Very Nice. My English Teacher would grade A+. <3
It's good as a legit article....but dependant on the times i'm fairly positive that there would not be an eagle inlaid into the bottom of the page. It's a nice touch, but if you are going for realism i'd get rid of it. Also, I might suggest maybe ambering the page, basically giving it an old rustic feel. Either way, I really like this
This looks nice right now. Very professional. (It was a good thing to add that raven watermark to the lower right corner to fill in that empty space. =D) But if it is supposed to be very old, then maybe you should add a torn/burnt paper texure or coffee bag texture to make it look more aged and worned out? :S
In all honesty, the lay out's a bit boring to me. I understand that it's meant to be simplistic, but its missing those textures needed to give it that 'age old' feel, rather than merely using a rusty/light teal back ground. The font choice was nice, but I think that something a little bit more Victorian would have suited it better. The 'pendulum finally falls on the poet' should be better aligned, and more together as a phrase, placement wise. Next to that, the font for that should be a step beyond the Arial or Times New Roman - esque family. Maybe something more crisp. Even though the minimalistic Raven - theme is nice, I think that you could have branched into a more variety of themes to fit its simplicity, concept wise. Concepts that also fit for that era. War, classic forests, quills, parchment..old ink splatters, clues to give it more of a /reach/ to the era in which it was based.
Thanks guys. :3 Forgot to mention that it's supposed to be like the paper the day after Poe's death, so it'd be fairly new. @Beau - I really would have done something different from the font...but those damned assignment constrictions were to blame. Plus I didn't want to go too overboard; it's for English and I don't want to be made a huge example of and have the class hate me. xD I'll keep all that in mind though; first time I've done a newspaper but probably not the last weird assignment.
I'm somewhat surprised you didn't mention his wife/cousin dying. Wasn't that what really caused his dramatic spiral downward? Or am I mistaken?
...Did I really forget that? o___o Thanks for catching that uh...minor...detail. xD This is what happens when you leave your notebook at school over winter break...you have no idea wtf needs to be included in an assignment. 8D Thanks again. xDD
it does look like a newspaper and it's great. I studied Edgar allan Poe in English a few months back. I'd say that's A+ material (:
