Would being immortal be fun? As in staying at an age for eternity, or would you rather just grow old and die. But is there such a thing as immortality? I know God will get involved again but what do you think?

Edit: [What I think] I think it'd be awesome, but only for a certain amount of time. Then what would you do? Living for 1000 years might sound fun at first, but then get a bit tiring after a while. I'd like my friends to come with me, but I wouldn't pressure them into doing anything that they don't want to do. I like the idea of being immortal, but I rather be more of a human and stay a certain age for many years, then if I wanted to age with time [over a hundred years approx.]

Immortallity huh? Well if it was possible I would go for it, but not right now. Being 16 for the rest of my life wouldn't be extactly the best thing. I would wait until i was around my mid 20's if i'd ever do that. I'd have a lot more mature and look the most natural.

    1. This is discussion about immorallity, not religion you ass.
    2. This is the discussion section so either post something relevent or don't post.

I would love it! Well, if I could make myself BECOME immortal with some kind of treatment or something (future medicine FTW) and choose to become mortal again if life ever became terminally boring (there are only so many things you can do and learn in the world, after all - eventually, you would have done everything - twice). But yes, I would LOVE to be able to live into the future and see what this world will become, see if Mankind ever makes it out of this solar system, etc. Who knows, with all the knowledge that an immortal person would eventually possess, maybe I would be the one to invent the method for leaving the system in the first place!

Immortality might seem good at first but eventually it'll turn sour as everything around you will die and you will keep going, in Highlander for example his wife dies while he hadn't changed. Besides you'd become tired, hateful and sick of the world for them repeating history and fighting amounst themselves. Immortality would probably bring you great knowledge but that knowledge could lead you to an evil process of thought pointing out that mortals are useless and shouldn't be worthy of life if they can only quarral and fight.
It's standard comic villain stuff right there.

Well, thats what I think. I wouldn't mind being immortal if I had something to keep me going even if I do become evil villain #1 but without a drive to move forward life is pointless and the point of life is that it ends and whatever is beyond that (if anything) is what we discover.

it depends, if that becomes the norm in the future, so normal that your friends and family would be immortal as well then it would be fun.

Immortality would be fun, but only if you got to pick which age. For example, I wouldnt stay 14 forever because that would mean that Id be in the same grade, do the same exams over and over and itd get boring after a while. If I was something like, 5, back when times were fun, then id be immortal.

But uh, seriously? I don't really think the human mind could tolerate immortality very well. You'd eventually desperately try to find a way to die.

But immorallity has absolutely everything to do with religion.
And concerning religion, my post was very relevent.

But I digress, immortallity is cool.
But after a while you'd just get tired and bored.

I say not... I mean, if you're the only one living, your friends are going to go on with growing up without you and die before you. Who would want that to happen? Plus, people you love will also grow older and die... So love would seem like a heart break over and over again cause you know their going to die eventually, and you're going to keep on living. But if you friends and your love ones had immortality too, then it wouldn't be so bad to go through. If not, life really wouldn't be worth living.

Immortality would mean nothing. All it would be is torture, the inability to die would be like hell, you'd stay there for all eternity just suffering and being tortured for life.Immortality would also corrupt a person, living forever would mean you could live life without the worry of consequence, you could got to jail, get 5 life sentences and walk out without the ravages of age.

Pretty much what I was going to add.

Immortality has been one of those dreams everyone has dreamed about as the end all way to remain beautiful and such. But at what price would it bring? Say you were able to become 'immortal', would it be just you, or the entire human race? Because if it was just you, then obviously you would be dealing with extreme loneliness and torture because anyone you could have any attraction with, would always die. If it was the entire race or human beings, WHERE THE HELL WOULD WE KEEP EVERYONE? If we think over population is bad now, just imagine what will happen when immortality mixes with a growing birth rate.

Immortality is something I wouldn't want.

How about very long life (200+ years) and perpetual youth while alive? IE, you stay the same age and, provided you exercise and sh...tuff, you keep the same level of fitness throughout your life, yet still die eventually. That way, we would have none of the problems associated with age (arthritis, dementia, etc), live for a long time, and yet not live for so long that we get bored with life.

Although, with the comic book villain stuff, that would depend solely on your frame of mind. Yes, you might eventually come to believe that you are worthy to rule them, or you could fall into a teacher figure, and guide and serve all mankind, or just live a normal life, learning many trades, and amassing a MASSIVE amount of cash.

If everyone was immortal then the world would be ****ed because Stalin, Hitler, Sadam, and Bush would be that much harder to get rid of.

If only a few people are Immortal they'd eventually go crazy and turn into apathetic stumps because every person they get attached to would die while they are stuck on this rock.

Yes, but not like you can grow infinitely old. Just being invincible would be awesome :D

    Hmm, I don't know.

On one hand, it would be really cool to be immortal. You could be able to see everything about the world (twice), gain an insane amount of knowledge, and be able to see history evolve. You'd even be able to help the human race progress with how much you'd learn. But mostly, you'd be able to do just about anything!

But, it would be a very lonely existence. You would have to watch everyone die around you. It wouldn't matter how close anyone got to you because eventually they would die and you wouldn't. You'd be stuck watching every horror that humans create (WW3, a nuclear holocaust, etc.) and seeing everyone die.

I think, maybe I would want to be immortal. It would be lonely, but I'm really afraid of missing something if I died young.

Even if you saw everyone you know at one time die, you could conceivably take joy in your future generations of your family (children, grandchildren, etc) and never have to worry about the problems of age (which I am scared to death of - I never want to get Alzheimer's, or dementia, or anything like that. To lose my brain... it's pretty much the only thing I'm scared of.)

To be honest, I don't ink immortality would be fun at all. I think it would be miserable. (Yeah, I think I've watched too many vampire shows again.) But I'd rather just grow old and die, because you'd be stuck in a never ending hell, and you also couldn't stay in one place for long, else people would suspect you're immortal. It would feel like you're numb, I think, just living the same year of your life over and over again. It would be painful in my opinion, though, also I think it would be hard if you loved someone you met half way through your immortality and then they had to die and knowing you could never be with them again. To me, it would just be a never-ending pain/numbness.

Excuse me if I'd rather not be conscious and aware of each of my individual locations as my remains float through the empty cosmos as a result of the natural decay that grips everything until time ends.
