I'm watching the Transformer movies for the first time. So far, half interest and half meh...

    Edit:
Some random character I think I'm supposed to pay attention to: "more then meets the eye"
    Me: HE SAID IT!!!

Tell me you are not texting in the middle of a movie. If you are I will find you and knock a lesson right into your head

I don't text often, but then again I am doing other things while I watch...although my interest in it has waned and now I'm taking a break before I continue it...
I envy you for now watching it.

I was thinking "maybe" when I first heard of age of extinction so I rented the first 3 movies from my local library, so far not very impressed except by the fact they got Mr. Cullen to voice Optimus. Debating on watching the other films...

The third one is only good for the funny asian guy in the beginning, after that you can stop watching the movie

OK SINCE I ACTUALLY LIKE TRANSFORMERS AND LOVE BEAST WARS AND OWN THE THREE BAY-VERSE MOVIES:

Transformers. The best of the three released so far (which is already a pretty low bar.) Far too much of the film focuses on annoying humans instead of the interesting Transformers, but when the robots are actually on screen, I loved it. A juvenile-level screenplay, with the best acting coming out of Peter Cullen (who's...the voice of Optimus Prime) and, for me at least, the military guys (yeah, I'm surprised too.) I saw the film three-and-a-half times in theaters: the spectacle is just freaking candy to my eyes in certain parts, and that shows in the sequels still too, regardless of the poor directing, acting and writing.

Revenge of the Fallen. Unfortunately, they listened TOO well to the complaints of too little Transformer action, and this one suffers for it. Completely nonsensical plot with a bland-as-hell villain (Megatron at least is memorable with his dialogue and banter with Starscream in the first film,) the introduction of two completely unlikable racist robots (whom even the film makers made sure to not feature in the next film,) some God-awful unfunny dialogue (like John Turturro being forced to utter the lines "I am directly below enemy scrotum",) and just a whole bunch more wasted opportunities at something at least decent. At the very least, the forest fight Optimus has is one of the best action scenes I've seen in years.

Dark of the Moon. The second best of the three released. MUCH better balance between Transformer action and human scenarios, though the writing is still low-brow, especially with the unnecessarily long toilet scene...Sentinel Prime was a pretty interesting character though. What's unforgivable in this one though is the VASTLY out-of-character actions taken by Optimus pertaining to two of the villains: the guy who's supposed to be the paragon of good principles in this universe resorts to The Shining-esque violence. It's nuts and really hard to watch again. Still, it's got enough fun scenes to stomach the bad. Also, why is John Malkovich in this movie?

I'm going to see The Age of Extinction with what I hope are the appropriately adjusted expectations for a film that's less concerned about having a well-told story (even though it pains me to say that since Transformers and Beast Wars both have had some excellently written episodes each) and more concerned with shoving amazingly detailed large-scale battles between gigantic shape-shifting mechanical titans.

I like the first movie, third movie had an hour long action scene of robots just beat the crap out of each other and causing massive collateral damage so ya gotta love it (lolpeopleontheinternetlikingtransformers), second one is crap.

So what I've gathered from this thread, skip 2 and just enjoy the stupidity of 3. Gotcha.

Transformers was never meant to be a smart series. The stupidity and the giant robots ripping each other in two is what's to be enjoyed.

Honestly, two is worth watching despite how terrible it is. I've been able to make some great jokes because of that. Shia's entertaining at the beginning too.

I trust you're just talking about the films. Granted, the actual Transformers cartoons aren't exactly consistently the strongest in writing and themes, they do have some really poignant moments. Beast Wars had an episode that basically talked about the fact that the war between the Maximals and the Predacons was causing them to both have some hive-mind mentality and saw both sides trying to influence a neutral party who wanted to befriend members of both sides.

And yeah, Revenge of the Fallen is worth it for the action at least.

The actual cartoons, even Prime and Beast Wars (my personal favorite) aren't exactly Siddhartha dude. It's about some humans finding robots that transform into cars and then helping them beat the crap out of eachother.

I was talking the movies there, but uhhh I watched Prime specifically to watch robots beat the hell out of each other. They're def not even near Gundam as far as story and stuff goes, at least in my eyes, and I may just be interpreting it differently as I know a lot of people treasure these shows. The fun is in the robot fighting. The rest is just tasty beef gravy to me.

I'll still watch it, but we'll see how far that goes.
Also Beast Wars FTW! One of the earliest shows I remember from my childhood.
