Your family tends to question what you spend all your afternoons doing, locked up in your room with just your computer, for seven years. I'd rather them know the truth than suspect I have some kind of porn addiction. It's even harder when you have Skype calls on a semi-regular basis, lol. At a certain point it's easiest to just come clean.

Not many of my friends know about what I do on the internet, I've mentioned it in passing to some (or, well, I have no friends, but coworkers) and shown one or two a thread on here, but that's all. idk. It's like a hobby, if I was a soccer player I wouldn't hide my love of soccer, especially if it came up.
