...for a school trip. Isn't it the best idea ever? :D

No, seriously. I forgot all about the date, but the counsellor announced it to the whole class this week. Said something about 'gaining experience'. Who knows, might be fun.

    What would you think?

    LOL!
    Prison is FUNNY!
Mostly half of the inmates are Pedo's xD
So you better stay close to the guard packing a Shotgun or a MP5.

    Jesus Christ, what the hell?

Prison is "funny"? It's full of people who have commited crimes worthy of getting them there. Some of the people there will be there for life; for murder, for rape, for manslaughter. That's "funny", is it?

I can't imagine the school allowing you to get close to any of the inmates, it wouldn't be approved by health and safety etc.

Wow, I've spent my life so far trying to stay out of prison, and you guys are just going there for fun. Anyway, 'Gaining experience' just means they're trying to scare you. Have fun, and say hi to 992762235 for me.

I don't get why schools do that...

I went on a trip to a courthouse once. I think it's suppose to do the same thing that your trips doing, scaring the life out of students to not commit crimes ever again. I found the experience kinda boring, maybe prison will be better.
But still, the best way the government can teach young people about 'the system' is by scaring them into it? Aren't parents suppose to teach this kinda stuff?

Actually, I've been to a "prison family day" in Ghent once (my aunt works there are a jailer). The inmates, while of coure heavily guarded, were put to work there. The guy I bought by ice cream from was convicted for armed robberies and me and some other kids (I assume family of personnel or of the inmates themselves) played soccer against a team of said personnel and inmates. Scored a goal against a guy who killed his son over an argument about what they should have for dinner. In retrospect not many people can say that. So yeah, I still find it incredibly funny.
Try to be less short-sighted please. See the humor in things. It brightens one's day.

Of course they wont let them get close because if one of them spits on you thats your health gone xD
I was watching some show right now and the lady had to run because one guy was spitting at her and they got some plastic shield to stop the spit touching them.

I agree, it's not funny at all. My school is also doing this for a certain class.
I'm taking Law this year and they are taking those classes to Jail. You don't have to go.
I don't see why I would want to go. Nothing I want to see.

I guess the zoo and museum already had booked trips?

But seriously, I can see how this could be "educational" I guess...its still beyond me as to why you guys cant watch a movie on obeying the law or something like that. Prison is pretty ****ed up and I doubt that talking to the people in there are going to tell you much besides the people who go there, unless you talk to a warden or something. Which still makes someone question why the Warden didnt just visit the school...?

You won't see the worst of the criminals in this tour. They will probably show you how they process in people, have you perhaps talk to some of the people on lighter charges etc and the wardens and guards who work there. Murderers and rapists etc aren't going to be confronted really. They would not want the students to see people that could be crazy or well are the worst criminal elements. I'd imagine this more or less gives you a view on how prisons themselves work, what they look like etc, which I don't consider it that bad of a thing to know.

Wow, that sounds like an interesting day out. It's a story you can tell people atleast.
I'm trying to actually become a Forensic Psychologist, and basically I want to deal with the rehabilitation of convicts into society, and also learn the reason behind it all. THese are the kind of people I may meet every working day I have.

I've watched plenty of documentries on prisons before, and I have to say, when you're treated like a criminal, you become one most of tthe time. Not to mention the majority of convicts have an undiagnosed mental illness, usually being the cause for the arrest in the first place.

But, it's a intresting learning experience even though it's slightly weird.

I went to a prison for my senior class field trip. It was way better than going to Cedar Point during eighth grade...*insert rolling eye thing*

Mainly this. Then again, a LOT of innocent people are in prison right now. That's just the f*cked up law system.
