    Because she is a strong female character that doesn't let the Man tell her when she is going die.

    There's a difference between being a strong character and someone who needs to be slapped and told "quit being an asshole".

    Who is being an asshole?

    Katniss has bee putting her name in the drawing for multiple years to get food to support her mom and little sister. As well as hunt because her mom goes cray cray after her father dies.

    And then her sister gets picked to die the very first time she enters the drawing so Katniss volunteers to take her sisters place and promises to win and come back with fame, glory, and food.

    I see nothing wrong with this. Katniss is the best female character in American Literature since Hermione.

    Well, I honestly don't really like her.

    I understand her situation is tough, and I'm not trying to downplay that. The thing is that she's not trying to make the best out of her situation, even before she was put in the Hunger Games. It seems like every other citizen is able to be a decent functional human being in District 12 except for her. And her volunteering...it seems a bit out of character with her to be honest. However, I'm actually glad she got sent to the Games. Hopefully she does go through some real character changes.

    And one thing that got me upset about Katniss was how she treated her mother. I've heard of cases where a spouse will actually die because their partner is dead. I was able to sympathize with the mother and I found it absolutely terrible how Katniss treated her. She obviously was able to function again, and she shouldn't have to take this from her daughter, because, well, she's her daughter. The fact that she didn't kick her out for her attitude is a real show of character for the mother.

    She really doesn't cooperate well with people. She is smart, but her attitude makes her really unattractive to me. With her stubborn attitude, it doesn't feel like she's going to change that.\

    I'm not saying the book is bad, just to make that clear. I'm obviously still reading it for a reason. It's just I don't like Katniss. Hell, right now Rue is a better character in my eyes (and I've only read the chapter where the two of them finally meet up). I wouldn't mind seeing the story from her point of view.

    You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Misty again.

    I've not been on Pottermore in ages, but I thought at one point she said her parents (and her) lived in London?

    Living in a place doesn't make you that nationality.

    I read in a special extra that she was born in America when her father was in an American dental university.

    Therefore....

    Hermione= American.

    Lived =/= Born in

    Than again, one could argue that one's nationality is where they call home, not where they were born. Still, my Canadian friend has lived in America for most of his life, and deems himself Canadian.

    I'll have to look, then. But still, that doesn't make her apart of American Literature.

    She isn't the kindest person to everyone, but she doesn't really have a reason to be. The captial only cares to see her entertain them with flashy dresses and kill for their enjoyment. While you say her mother didn't deserve the kind of treatment Katniss gave her, I can't say I'd feel peachy with her. At a distance it seems like she's being an ass to her grieving mother, but her and her sister are starving to death. While she stayed useless from the pain of her husaband passing, Katniss had to do everything to keep their family alive.
    It's like Padme(star wars referance, hurr), she died cause Anakin went dark side, leaving her two kids without their mother. Katniss' mom's husband died and she basically decied that was it and forgot about her kids, they'd have all died were it not for Katniss(Gale and Peeta to a lesser extent). I don't know how I'd handle such an event as my better half getting killed, but I'd hope I wouldn't abandon my kids.

    Eh, idk. Seirous post is seirous, that's what I think. I do agree that I don't like her aditude, not attractive all, but she's got reasons.

    (I know nothing of Hunger Games)
    I think that Padme's actual cause of death is strangulation, lol. Granted it was the prequels though so lord knows what Lucas was going for, but:
    She was able to give birth though so I don't see how strangulation would work? Star Wars you make it so hard to love you sometimes

    Keep in mind the prequel trilogy is also made by the guy who says Greedo shot first.
