    Your views?

I say they just need to leave. They should not have the right to stay if they're not here legally, that applies to any race and any country.
All these protests they do are ridiculous, what makes them think they should be able to get away with something illegal?
For one thing, a good majority of them are very rude and disrespectful, and absorb themselves in only their culture, and can a lot of the time be racist themselves against any white person. Even non-racist ones.

They're a significant reason behind this nonsense of Billingual packaging, and "Press 1 for English, 2 para espanol". It should not be happening.

Just because hundreds of years ago, certain areas of the USA were Mexico, doesn't mean you get to stay. Unless you were born here or are legally here, leave.

What annoys me even more is them singing the praises of Mexico, acting like it's better than America.
If you think that so much, go back.
If Mexico is too dangerous for you or whatever, alright, learn English and legally get into America and show some respect and dignity. Or, just move to Spain.

I want people to be able to live in America, but illegal immigrants should leave now.
You'll notice in areas near Mexico how a good majority of crimes will be committed by people with last names like "Ramirez" or "Sanchez". Most likely illegal immigrants.
It's posing a danger to many areas. Obama needs to get on the immigration issue, and order all illegal immigrants (from anywhere) back to their own countries, and if they would like to come back, they need to pay a fee and become a legal citizen. English classes should also be complimentary, that would also help fix this issue.

I'm not discriminatory or racist at all - I find it disappointing that so many hispanics aren't showing self-respect or respect for others. I thankfully do know hispanics who do have those traits, and they're great people. I wish more of them could be like that, then they could find themselves with less racism against them.

Coming to a country and speaking a foreign language to citizens is disrespectful and rude. If I were to go to, say, Germany, I'd put in a good effort to learn a good amount of German. If I were to go to Japan, I'd put in effort to learn Japanese. To be respectful.

No, English is not the official language of America - But it is the national language, and the vast majority of states hold it as their official language.

To sum it up, people who are in the country illegally need to be forced to leave, only able to come back after paying a fine and becoming a legal citizen.

And watch, I'll end up with tons of negative rep from people who didn't pay attention all the way.

Do you know how long it takes to legally come to America? I dont know the exact number but I know some people who came here illegally or with a Visa over 15 years ago and still havent been legalized yet so imagine what it would be like for people outside of the country.

Thats a huge generalization right there. Just because most of the immigrants you have met are rude doesnt mean they all are. Also alot of people tend to insult or be racist against immigrants, so if they did the same thing, what would be the difference other than one is legal and the other one isnt.

Whats so bad about this? It allows people who dont know or dont quite have the grasp of English to speak and understand in a language that there are comfortable with. But the thing that is kinda pissing me off is why cant you just ignore it and press 1, it isnt affecting you drastically in life.

Most people are patriotic to their native country and tend to embrace their culture.

Again you made another generalization, for all we know it could be a legal citizen of the country. Also illegal immigrants arent the only source of danger in this country.

I dont know where you live but where I live, a majority of the hispanics if not all of them that I know are very thankful that they can live here and have a chance to pursue a better life.

Kinda disrespectful to not accept that a person doesnt know the same language as you and not give them a chance to learn. Especially older people because it tends to be harder for them to learn a different language.

English isnt considered the official language anywhere in America. Most of the time its required for when you get a job because a majority of people know English and its their first language but it still isnt the official language.

Not gonna give you a bad rep just because we have opposing opinions. I would feel like a total d*** if I did that.

If it's illegal it's illegal and they should be sent back to their country of origin immediately. The problem the UK has at the moment is that we tend to let anyone in legally, allowing political groups like the BNP (a.k.a. the British Nazi Party) to gain strength as people get pissed off with their taxes and National Insurance contributions being spent on people who only came to the country a month ago. Not only that, a lot of the immigrants come over to work then send all the money home thereby draining the economy.

Immigration has got out of hand and has to stop, our infrastructure can barely handle the people that are already here never mind half of Europe as well as large parts of the Middle East and Africa.

That's a really bad generalization, considering you don't seem to be very respectful of them. And who says all immigrants are white? What about immigrants from Britain or Germany or France?

This isn't nonsense. If someone is living in an English speaking country trying to become a legal citizen but they haven't conquered the English language yet, why shouldn't they have an option to have services in their native language?

Unless they're wishing for the demise of the country they immigrated to, there's nothing wrong with them being patriotic to their native country. You can be patriotic to the country they were born in without despising their new home.

It is certainly not. What if they don't quite know English yet, and are hoping that whatever citizen they are talking to might know some Spanish or French or whatever to help them?

I do think immigrants should become legal citizens to stay in a country, but your points are very rude and not thought through clearly.

Personally, I find most of this a bit offensive and I don't even think you thought most of this well enough.

I'm Hispanic, my family's from El Salvador and they came here because they couldn't deal with the poverty and decided to come here to have a better life style and escape that poverty. Yes, I was born here and yes, most of my family members are now legal. Not all of them are the same and the majority of them come here because they wish to improve their lives. Although my family doesn't really have money now due to the economy, I still feel lucky because I'm able to have a meal everyday. Unlike when my mother, father and my grandparents rarely ate while they lived in El Salvador. If they never came here, I don't think my brothers and I would be able to handle the poverty and would be starving 24/7. We'd go to bed with our stomachs growling.

Speaking your native language in an area where people speak a different language is not disrespectful. Many Latinos, Hispanics, and any other kind of race usually try their best to learn English or the language of the country they had gone to. My parents speak English, they don't speak it very well but they speak it. My grandparents are the ones that have the hardest trouble learning it and understanding it. My grandmother isn't being disrespectful when she speaks Spanish. That's the only language she's able to understand because she has trouble keeping English in her head. She's tried learning English but it didn't do much for her.

Illegal immigrants should be allowed go where they feel that will help them improve their lives. Of course, not all immigrants have the same goal. But if they decide to leave their country and come to the US or any other part of the world to reach that goal, I see no problem. If they want to stay, then yes I do believe they should try to become legal. Also, most immigrants do try to become legal. You can't just kick someone out just because they're immigrants. What if they were trying to become legal to stay? Would you still want to kick them out?

Then offer it in French, German, Japanese, Icelandic, and Dutch too. No reason why Hispanics should be singled out. If anything, it's essentially racism, catering to them, thinking they aren't capable of learning, and they are.

Does not excuse breaking the law.

Hence why I said MAJORITY. Majority =/= All

Then why is it only in English and Spanish if that's the case? What if I feel comfortable speaking to someone in Russian?
I know why - because the reason is that they think the hispanics need to be catered to, and that's racism.

That's all well and good, but try to show some respect for the culture of the country you're in and not fly the Mexican flag at your business above the American one (which is illegal) or not want to have anything to do with anyone outside your race.

You're not paying full attention - I never said it is guaranteed to be an illegal.
And I never said illegal immigrants are the only source of danger, either.

Consider yourself lucky. It's very rare to find one like that in my area. Those people need to be inspiration for these other ones, that's an example of how they should act.

If YOU are going to another country that speaks a different language, it is not disrespectful of a citizen to not want to speak the language the tourist knows. It is simple respect and decency to put in a little effort, or in the very least use a translator book.

Wrong, about 27 states or so have it as their official language.

I have respect for people who deserve respect.
And you clearly did not pay much attention to my post.

Being patriotic to your homeland is one thing, but being totally absorbed in it and not wanting anything to do with the culture of the place you live now isn't really going to work out if you plan to have much success. Of course, still have love for your original culture, but accept the new culture too.

...Yes it is. Would you go around, say, Vietnam and speak English to everyone in hopes you'll find someone who speaks it? That is completely and utterly rude to do. At the very least, get a Spanish-English mini-dictionary thing, they are very easy to find

I've thought them through very clearly, and they were not rude.
    .

    Legally, yes. But illegally, no.

Of course, but they should do so legally and not have to be in any fear of being deported.

    Then do so beforehand.

I never said that. I said they should be kicked out if they are ILLEGAL immigrants, not just immigrants. Pay attention.

As I said, I believe there should be a minor fee for immigrating illegally, and then they can go through the legal process.

As I've said earlier in this post, it is disrespectful, and it is rude. I've heard stories of people going to Japan speaking English everywhere expecting someone to cater to them, and pretty much getting told to **** off.
Elderly people are a different story, mainly since they don't particularly go in public often, and it's more of an at-home thing, and that's a matter of "sure, whatever".

I fail to see how speaking a foreign language in a country that does not have a majority of people speaking that language is "disrespectful"and "rude".
And Mexicans wouldn't survive in Spain. Totally different languages.

Nice job stereotyping, generalizing, and being incredibly rude and offensive.
    f
To start off, I'm Hispanic/Latino. Grandparents immigrated to this country from Mexico with my great grandparents illegally to improve their lives and the lives of their children. My parents and most of my family were born here. You want my grandparents to leave America? Why?
They pay their taxes. They buy American-made products. My grandfather sells homes and makes about 150,000 dollars a year. He's single so a lot of that goes to taxes, and him selling homes stimulates the economy.

I wouldn't have a problem with this, but it can take a ridiculous amount of time for legal immigration to be approved. I've heard of people waiting 20 years for a temporary Visa. Many people can't wait that long due to harsh conditions or poverty.

Prove it. No really, fuсking prove it! This is a stereotype, and a VERY unfair one. You may know immigrants that are like this, but I personally don't know any. Honestly, most immigrants come to this country with a humble complex, knowing that they are here to improve their lives and that they owe a lot to the country.
Also, you seem to ignore that immigrants can also be white.

Give me a fuсking break! What are you, five? How does this affect you in any significant way? It "should not be happening"? You don't want immigrants to be able to use the fuсking phone if they can't understand the language yet? You don't companies to have as many customers as they can, including those who speak other languages?
God, this has got to be the most immature thing I've read in a long time.

This has nothing to do with areas of the USA having formerly belonged to Mexico. It's about people wanting to improve the quality of their lives. If you're against that, you're a fuсking Nazi.

So what, now I'm not allowed to have pride for my own fuсking homeland? You enjoy America, don't you? If you lived somewhere else, America would still be your homeland and you'd still feel a connection to it.
And once again, how exactly does this even significantly affect you? America is a diverse land. You should let people enjoy their culture.

If it's a matter of danger, people can't wait 20 fuсking years to get a Visa before they're shot or something.
Spain? Sure, that's a totally reasonable thing to say! Mexicans can get to Spain way easier than they can get to America! Jesus, look at a map.

Wow, nice stereotype you fuсking ******.

Yeah, because we totally have money to spend right now sending all these immigrants back to where they came from. You really think my harmless great grandparents should be sent back to Mexico? Well fuсk you then. I have a problem with you saying ALL illegal immigrants should go back. Not all of them pose any harm, and even if they do, it isn't always directly related to them being immigrants.

Oh, fuсk you. You are VERY discriminatory in this post and are stereotyping the whole time. I have a lot of self-respect, as does every immigrant I know. But I've got to hand it to ya, I really don't have any respect for YOU.

You do realize that your "more should be like them" comment is only perpetuating racism, right? There is no, "Should" for any race. If you think there is, it's racism. People can be however they want to.
Also, this is extremely racist seeing as how you've gotten completely off the subject of immigration.

Once again, if it's a matter of SAFETY, people really don't have time to learn the language. And most of them do while they're here. If they don't, they have the freedom not to, but they'll lose access to lots of things. Whatever, this doesn't affect you anyway.

I paid attention the whole time. Enjoy your negative rep.

Because antagonizing him is really going to help.

If you don't like the way he conducts his argument, why don't you try me on for size?

Uh, yes there is a reason Hispanics should be singled out. You know how many Hispanics are in this country? Compared to French, German, Japanese, Icelandic, and Dutch combined? Not to mention, if you wanna talk Europeans, a lot of European countries require their children to learn English in addition to their native tongue. We don't have to worry about them. If we did, we would have instructions and translations in other languages. And note that we do, where applicable; for an admittedly small example, I've been seeing a large number of game boxes with the promotional fluff on the back translated in what appears to be French.

I love how you say that, but you seem to hardly consider the idea that you might be biased because of it.

Yes, it is somewhat a matter of respect to try and learn the language of the place you're going to. It's also a matter of tact to try and cater to the tourist. Responding to groups that don't want to learn the language native to their area by refusing to speak theirs creates a language barrier that is entirely uncalled for as a general attitude. As well, you realize it's ridiculously difficult for some people to learn a second language, regardless of age? It's not like you can skim through an English dictionary and suddenly be able to communicate.

Disbanding the law system and letting loose the floodgates is quite one matter, but a handful of people breaking the law because that's one of their two choices, the other being die/starve/live in slavery, is not going to kill us. People who don't have time to undergo the exact legal procedures can be excused if they're still willing to make the attempt when they are in the safety and comfort that allows them to enter the legal process to become a citizen. Law and order must be taken in moderation, like anything else. Now, I will say that I believe there is a bit of an excess in illegal immigration in this country right now, but moving to the opposite extreme is hardly the proper recourse. You can't just say "Legally yes, illegally no;" the world cannot be divided into black and white like that, no matter how much you want it to be.

Oh yeah, and... Bushido, you really should calm down. It's obviously a touchy subject, but getting all fired up is just going to hurt your argument.

To be honest with you, this was the only positive area that I found in your post.

The rest is mostly you being negative about how the majority of Hispanics are disrepectful to America or racist and how its disrespectful to not speak English in America when its the biggest melting pot in the world.

First of all, this solution will never work because the government doesnt have the money and the patience to first round up every immigrant in the US, and then deport them all to their homelands. Also paying a small fee isnt all that it takes to be legalized in this country, it takes a hell of alot of paperwork and patience because as I said before the legalization process takes time which alot of people dont have because as Nova said its either live in poverty/die/become a slave/etc. or break the law once to live a better life.

First of all, it isnt catering to their needs, the government knows that the majority of immigrants in America speak Spanish and most of them attempt to learn because they want to get a job so offering an alternative in Spanish is pretty good thing if you dont quite know English.

Also how easy do you think it is to learn a language? You just dont open the Spanish-English dictionary and magically know the language if so I would be fluent in Spanish by now. You got to learn the rules, the grammar, and the vocabulary of that language and the rules of the Spanish or French are very different than the English language so its hard especially for adults and older people because they are so accustomed to their own language.

Hey, people gotta eat. Can't hate them for trying to reach for the stars.

Maybe the methods aren't the best, but if someone can do a better job than me, at a lower pay, and even do some of the most grotesque jobs i've seen, I respect them.
And it doesn't matter how much someone insults you, beats you, restricts you from trying to feed yourself and family, you won't give up easily.

Saying illegal immigrants need to leave, is like saying let's ship off our criminals to low populated countries, to boost the numbers and never look back.
Might seem smart, but in the long run it's a real bad move.

Bushido, if you're willing to re-post your responses in a more mature manner, I'll be happy to make my responses to your comments.

But it's not exactly respectful, it's basically saying they're incapable of learning. I know if I went to, say, Italy, I wouldn't particularly want to have almost everything put billingual in Italian and English for me, because I would have learned a good amount of Italian before I came there.

Sure, it won't be perfect sentence structure and wording, but it'll at least be trying, and that's a good thing. It's better than giving up.

That was in a sense subtle racism - Saying Europeans can learn, but Hispanics can't. Which is completely wrong.
The reasoning behind you seeing stuff in French on backs of game boxes is probably because it also ships to Canada, where French is legally an official language in addition to English there, where everything has to be in English and French. A lot of the time, stuff like that will have the same packaging and whatnot in the USA and Canada.

Many of you should take a maturity pill. Try to get your doctor to prescribe it when you go get your flu shot. And yes Bushido, I'm looking at you more than anyone.

I'm gonna speak for Belgium since I have no idea what the situation is like in other countries. I'm afraid Rho has a valid point. There are simply too many immigrants who see Belgium as the land of milk and honey, who refuse to adapt themselves to Western values or even refuse learning the language or looking for a job. Many immigrants forget that being welcome in a new country requires effort on their part.

Ask yourself the reason why these immigrants are still illegal. Ask yourself whether the really needy ever even get here. It made me think, and eventually realise that there is a problem (in my country at least).

    ...Wow. Just wow.
Just imagine if you were in their shoes - there was a war or something going on in their home land, poverty is at its highest where they are and they just need an escape. What would you do, attempt to stick it out and watch as your life crumbles around you or attempt to find a way out?

There's nothing wrong with being patriotic - everyone else does it, so why is it so wrong of them?

Maybe you should rethink some of your points, some of them were incredibly rude and stereotypical, especially since the surnames "Ramirez" or "Sanchez" more than likely belong to illegal immigrants.

I'd do an effort in order to become a legal immigrant by finding a job, learning the official/popular language...in other words: through integration.

Its not saying that they are incapable of learning, its just that for some people it takes some time to learn English. An example would be my dad, he speaks both English and Portuguese, and if there was a decision between answering questions in English or Portuguese he would always choose the latter because it's the one that he is more comfortable with.

He didn't say that Europeans can learn English, and Hispanics can't. He said that in most European countries it is necessary to learn English as a second language while in most Hispanic and Latino countries, you don't get the same option. I think you read that incorrectly.

I think the main problem is that the system, as structured as is, still doesn't benefit completely the immigrants who do wish to become legal and work hard to earn their keep. Sometimes said system fails, and it is deplorable when an honest person has to resort to vile methods in order to get enough resources.

Imagine being illegal because you haven't received the citizenship. It would certainly cut short most of employment opportunities.

And yes, integration is key. You can't go to the live at the neighbors house, and ravage his belongings; you are careful to maintain the house clean, and aport what you can to it. Same is with the immigration.

Yeah, exactly. I'm not saying they can't--I'm saying it's not required of them like it is of many European countries. It's not about who can and who can't, it's about who's most likely to need the help. And yes, Hispanics are most likely to need it, because it's not required of them that they learn English or they can't get an education--unless, of course, they immigrate here, where it's strongly recommended at best. Not to mention that the percentage of Hispanic immigrants in the U.S. is higher than the percent of European immigrants, like I said, so it's more likely that a greater number of Hispanics will need translations in Spanish. It's not racism, it's fact.

All right, that's fair. But consider this: Do you think that, maybe, we're headed for that here in America? That Spanish will become an official language in a lot of states soon, if it isn't already? Given the Hispanic populace, at a glance I'd say it's possible. Granted I don't know how many Hispanics are in the U.S. compared to French speakers in Canada; it's just something to think about to rationalize the prevalence of Spanish translations.

About one quater of the entire Canadian population is francophone. Most French-speakers (i.e. French as first language) are from Quebec, though there are a good number of French-speaking communities in each province/territory. But yeah, our official languages are French and English, so all writing on packages, food, and even DVDs must be in both English and French. And I definitely wouldn't be surprised if one day this happens in the US with Spanish.
