If you had the ability to change time, would you do it?

But even if it's for a good reason, what would the effects of it be? Assassinating Hitler would be pointless, because someone else would step up right behind him and do the same thing. I feel almost heartless saying this, but some things are necessary. The Holocaust serves as an example of what we shouldn't do. Almost anything can be looked at in theory and not be that bad. To Hitler, he was simply fixing a problem. It's much harder to do something when you know what the consequences of it will be. If there is no example, you can delude yourself on the consequences. If there's an example, you know exactly what will happen. I'm not sure if I made myself clear throughout this thread, and I feel like this is a bit of a paradox, but what I am saying is that the Holocaust had to happen, so that it would never happen again.

Anyway, on to the actual question. If I had the ability, no, I don't think I would. It's easy to look back on a mistake five seconds after it happened and be like, 'Oh, shoot, I shouldn't have done that!'. You can look back on previous mistakes, ones that didn't occur recently, and regret them, but to me, changing them should be an absolute last resort. If you're happy with your life, why risk it with the inevitable butterfly effect that will occur even with a small action? The only time I would change my life would be if I was miserable with no way to go but up. However, I'm happy with my life, and wouldn't risk it for something that doesn't bother me too much today.

I feel selfish for it but.....yes I might. Only if I really screwed up though. Sure there is the saying "Oh everything happens for a reason" and I believe a little bit of that but I'm not fully believing it.

I mean maybe everything thing does but thats not convincing me. So I guess I would only if I screwed up big time. But everyone else would probably do that too.

I wouldn't change anything either. The mistakes and pain I've gone through to get where I am has made me who I am. I believe in the philosophy 'everything happens for a reason..'

The past always leads to the best for your future. =]

I don't suppose I would. I mean, my parents divorced six years ago and it really affected me (we're still dealing with it now, actually), but I don't think I would change it because, as others have said, it made me into the person I am today. I believe I'm a much better person than I was when I was five. Before my parents' divorce, I was pretty naiive and I didn't know anything about the difficulties of marriage. I was one of those kids who thought marriage solved everything. Obviously that's untrue, and I think I needed to have my heart broken in order to grow properly, because otherwise I would have all these fake ideas about life. So no, I don't think I would change time.

I wouldn't. There's no playing God. That's why. Everything happens for a reason, so I don't think the past or future should be changed.

I definitely would.Having the opportunity of becoming perfect as a person,is a chance i would not waste.I believe that if a person wants to feel good he must be in harmony with himself. But mistakes are always made,so having the ability to manipulate time the way i want to,i could achieve that perfection, thus making me happy.Besides, about the part that you change the future in a bad way,it's not a big deal. You go back in time again , and ta-da !Everything's fixed...So i don't see why you people wouldn't do that...

Once again,i'm amazed and smiling at the fact you make a simple answer into a complex and carefully constructed point of words when you could have said 'No'! :P

I'm not one for changing situations, same with presnt and past, so probably not. THough if I had the ability I would go back to watch history back over, jjust because seeing some real life discoveries would be leave me with my mouth open.

WEll, it depends if you meant changing history or actually going back in time yourself to change it. If I only had the ability to change it and not go back, i'd change nothing.

No...I mean, I'd want to but ultimately I wouldn't. I'd be too afraid that something stupid would happen because of it. Like the entire world would mutate into a...well...I dont know. =/ just something bad would happen XD.

    Time is a fickle thing.

Are you honestly prepared to twist reality?
What if the reality you make
is something that does not include you or friends.

    I think there's enough corny Science-fiction
books and Movies to back me up on this. xD

But if I had the ability to change time,
    I would never use it,
    unless it were something like:
A man jumps off a building,
    and I'm nearby,
    but the first time around,
    the man dies.

    I could save him,
and he would thus change his life around.

But who is to say that if he would kill himself,
he wouldn't kill somebody of greater importance?

I could have just saved the man who shoots my friend in the near future.

So time-reversing is something that should never
    be used by beings
    as naive as human beings.

    OOPS! I dropped a plate!
Oops! I accidentally blew up a nuclear plant!
[Texan Accent] Oops....I accidentally made water-boarding.

I respect everyone here because no one in my school would talk about this stuff.
Had any of have every thought that time has already been changed.Once time had changed
it created another universe in the multi-verse.Maybe we were made because someone
went back in time.We wouldn't know because of the way were raised to know everything
about our history. For all we know hitler succeeded and someone went back in time to change
time.Their are an infinite number of universes in the multi-verse meaning an infinite number
possabilities. Some one could have gone back in time to create our world by changing their worlds
    history.

I respect the opinion above me,
because it goes into the controversey of: "Derailment."

The theory goes that time is one line,
    one straight line.
But it goes deeper by saying there are lines that runoff
    from the original,
    make other new lines,
and sometimes intersect with each other.

A good example of understanding it is, if you read Marvel comic book,
there is the original SpiderMan story, where Uncle Ben dies
    by being shot to death.
But, there's derailments that sometimes leaves Uncle ben still breathing.
But as a consequence for Uncle Ben living, Aunt May
dies by falling down a stairs.

It's a pretty good example of what may actually happen in our universe.

I bet everyone would want to have control over time because I think everyone regrets; made mistakes they could of fixed and a lot more.
