If you could go back ten years and tell your past self one thing, what would it be?

He'd get to see himself in the past and reminisce about all he's been through as well as see things that he may not remember very well without doing anything to majorly affect the what he defines as the present.

As for what I would say, I'd have two words for young me.

"Kiss her."

Then I'd duplicate the entire universe, go back in time, and say:

"Do not, under ANY circumstances, kiss her."

Then I sit back and watch how both unfold.

 

How exactly do you plan to retain memories across world lines? Hm?

Going back in time creates an alternate timeline in which I went back in time. I merely go back in time, say "Kiss her," and leave that timeline as is. Then I go back in time to hours before I arrived Timeline B to create Timeline C by saying, "Don't kiss her" or somesuch. Then I return to my own timeline from which I watch the other two unfold.

You wouldn't watch it unfold. Returning to your timeline, you would only see the after effects, whatever they may be.

 

You cannot view other timlines while you are not in them, and after switching world lines, you would not remember anything from the original timeline. You would not go back... You would switch the present to a world where your past self heard that. I present the film 'The Butterfly Effect' yet again.

No, I'd be back in Timeline A. Neither Timelines B nor C have affected my own timeline. Think of the other mes as time divergent variants which I can see through the help of a device which allows me to see between timelines. I'll make a diagram if you need it.

@Makaze: I am able to move between and create new timelines. I'm pretty sure I'd also be able to view them.

If you can view timelines, then the point is moot; they would already exist, and you would not be able to 'create' them. You just have to find a timeline where you did kiss her and you could watch it from there.

If timelines do not exist until you create them, then how would you know that your device lets you watch them? There are no others to test it on until you create them, and in creating them you move to that timeline anyway.

You are not able to move between timelines. You are able to change the one you are on. Therefore, you have no basis on which to assume that you would be able to view them.

 

That's why I need to create them first. Otherwise, I'd have nothing on which to test my device.

Keep in mind that I could be using magic. Thus, anything is possible.

You would be unable to create such a device if you had no data to base it on. Reverse engineering only works when you know what you are aiming for.
