How is handshakes not normal? Every time I meet someone for the first time I shake hands.

What would you do when you meet your boss? Give him a hug or a kiss? Handshakes are a sign of respect.

To shake his hand would not even cross my mind, unless he held out his hand. In which case I would have no choice but to give him a proper handshake. So, unless he offered one (which I would politely accept), I would not. I would never think to.

The name of the theater I work at would give away where I live, but it's an independent/local theater. I got the job through a friend, filled out an application, and then was just called to come in one night. I met one of the owners when I filled out the application, I can't remember shaking hands with him, and when I met the other owner he just said hi and held the door open for me? lol

Oh, a local one. I kinda guessed. All the people I know who've worked at chain theaters quit within like, a year.

I would've put most people in the Hug/Kiss category, but I think they would have just found that awkward :c I give hugs and kisses (on the cheek) to people all the time. It's pretty normal for me.

I've been there for 14 months, my friends that work there are considering quitting not really because of the movie theater business but management issues. I don't really mind too much, then again I am a really passive person. :L

But yeah, I can definitely see why someone would want to quit, especially at large theaters. They don't tend to pay very well, first of all, and the customers can be just dreadful--though I've heard retail horror stories too. We mostly get families during the day, and some rather diverse (and often inebriated) customers at night. And cleaning up after people is quite degrading. Also they tend to work you a lot during the weekends, I don't mind so much because I don't have a life but yeah.
