Here is a interview I found just now about the remake for the treasured Final Fantasy VII. In a way, I kinda agree with this. I haven't played VII before but only a little bit of it for the first time about a year ago. I do plan of get it off PSN sometime soon but I dont have enough memory in my PSP (I dont own a PS3).

I think it's probably better if they change some of the elements. I mean, sure, if they keep everything the way it is now it would be exactly the same; but the way things are now, with all the others, it probably should be changed in a few elements.

I think it's definitely a good idea to change things if remaking it. The game just wouldn't be as exciting to play if it was all the same.
But then again, it all depends on what they change. No doubt some Hardcore fans will b*tch about a change they don't like.

personally i think they should change it,whats the point otherwise?
if there that worried about what fans want, why dont they have them vote on it

Well, certainly they need to fix Magic Defense since it's bugged in the original release of the game. The story neds kept the same of course. I get the feeling that modern day censorship would not allow the crossdressing scene. Voice acting? Not too sure about that one.

That is one of the scenes I do not want them tampering with! It's a classic! >| I'd only want a FFVII remake if they chose not to change any of the story's scenes...unless those changes fixed problems within it.

... Since when have Square been against releasing old games with just updated graphics? Am I reading this wrong, or does this go against the behaviour of the entire company for the last... Oh, I'd say a good ten years.

Though I know of a couple of things that might need to be changed. I played through it a couple of years back, I knew about all the discussion and glamoring for a remake, so I was thinking "How will they do ____" in a remake? For example, I think it would look pretty ridiculous seeing a super-realistic Cloud Strife scale the side of an ice mountain, with really nothing to hold on to and only his squats to keep himself warm.

I guess I could understand it if they were talking about things such as those, but knowing Square...

I think voice acting is a must. The main thing I don't want is for them to have a super depressed Cloud like they seem to have in all spin off's and cameos he's ever done. Dissidia was ridiculous in it's treatment of Cloud. In the original when he was Zack-ified he was a pretty funny sarcastic guy, not just moping about the whole time. But what I want to know is if they would include the infamous 'This guy are sick' line. Fans would be outraged if it was removed, but if it was voice acted it would just be really awkward.
...Also I personally would love to see the crossdressing scene, it's a classic :)

What' s the point of doing a remake if they want to change things ? They might as well call it FFWHATEVER and make a brand new game instead. A few tweaking ? Sure. Added things (new materias, bosses, summons, or even an added sequel as in the FFIV remake to close the genesis chapter) ? Hell be my guest ! But changing the story or the gameplay ? GTFO !

I don' t see why that scene would be problematic, nor even the Barett-Cloud date scene. The scene that would truly be disturbing in HD would be the one where Clouds takes a bath with the whole gay pride gym club and ends up butt-hurt.

They were very vague in the context of change. This is what seems to be most unsettling, given they would most likely take out precious memories and stick new scenarios that make you want to scream, "This didn't happen!" But on the other hand, they could make it better.

If they kept all the same scenes and scenarios, but changed some battle systems, I'd be fine with that. I don't mind if they make it work for more of a modern RPG like KH, or whatnot, just as long as it is remotely similar to the original turn base system. maybe change where materia are so you wouldn't be like, "Ok, just gotta make a golden chocobo, then i ride it over the ocean to the island where I get Knights of the Round." They could add some new materia and stuff like that. If they add new scenarios but keep all the originals, i'm fine with that too.

Voicecast would be the same I would imagine. I remember a IGN interview with Steve Burton (Cloud Strife) and he said he would love to keep doing Cloud's voice. And not having Newman for Sephiroth would be blasphemy.

I do think change would be good such as an improved battle system however at this point it seems that Square Enix seem to be making excuses upon excuses. It's obvious they don't want to work on it at least not for a while. The thing is they still haven't tied up the secret ending in Dirge yet and Final Fantasy V and VI haven't been remade.

I would definitely like to see it remade. Get some camera changes, better graphics and all the minor kinks and glitches fixed. And it's VII, I don't mind waiting.

would like a remake myself. and changes to remakes aren't always a bad thing, look at Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories and then look at the remake on PS2. while there were things added here and there (and certain script changes) it was a great game. as long as they know what not to change, i think a FF7 remake could be a great game.

    Story fixes

I think that battle mechanics and other basic system changes would be a given, but I wouldn't be against some story fixes. A lot of things in that game weren't well explained or well put. Some minor dialouge changes and more explainitory things would be great in my opinion, so long as they didnt change any of the really famous lines.

It would be cool. And change something won't be bad, actually, the game is great. If it gets a REMAKE would be awesome.

I agree that change isn't bad. However, they have to try to keep as true as possible. If anything, they should perhaps (besides fixing glitches, etc) put in Easter-eggs, possibly add sidequests and similar things.

Well, if it does get changed, perhaps better graphics and change Aeris to Aerith but a few sidequests doesn't hurt, hell have a moment to play as Zack during Cloud's Flashabck episodes!
